CNA Provides ‘Star Wars’ Weapon To

Combat H1N1 Flu Virus
Singapore, 4 May 2009: CNA Group Ltd. (“CNA” or “the Group”), an award-
winning enabler of intelligent buildings and facilities announced today that certain
ranges of its air purification products can be used to combat the fast-spreading
H1N1 flu that is threatening people across the globe.

Leveraging on Ultra Violet (“UV”) technology, Singapore Exchange-listed CNA’s

hospital-grade germicidal UVC emitters (also called “Steril-Aire UVC devices”)
can help contain the spread of the H1N1 flu virus through the air-conditioning
system in buildings.

In 2003, CNA’s Steril-Aire UVC devices were proved effective against SARS
(“Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome”).

The UVC technology equipment is distributed by CNA’s 51%-owned subsidiary,

GETC Asia Pte Ltd (“GETC Asia”).

According to Mr. Michael Ong, President and Chief Executive Officer of CNA,
“UV has the potential to emerge as a ‘Star Wars’ weapon in the global fight
against H1N1 flu. For many years now, scientists have known that one of the
most effective air sterilisers is natural sunlight’s UV rays.”

“Not the light we see when we look out the window, but the invisible ‘C’ band,
ultraviolet rays that make up part of the sun’s light spectrum. The sun’s UV-C
rays act as a natural outdoor air sterilisation system, inhibiting the growth and
reproduction of dust mites, bacteria, viruses, fungi and moulds,” added Mr Ong.

However, this natural process does not occur indoors.

For the last ten years, CNA has been fitting its highly effective Steril-Aire UVC
devices into hospital’s air-conditioning systems in Singapore including Tan Tock
Seng Hospital, Singapore General Hospital and the National University Hospital
to help combat the spread of viruses, bacteria and other harmful pathogens.

At the height of the SARS pandemic, CNA’s UVC emitters were installed at the
Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s air-conditioning system to destroy the SARS virus and
to prevent the air-conditioning system from re-circulating live SARS virus within
the hospital.

CNA will also be installing the devices at the new Khoo Teck Puat Hospital which
is presently under construction.

According to Mr Lui Wing Sin, GETC Asia’s General Manager, “UVC emitters set
up a lethal security barrier of magnetic waveforms that vapourise infectious
pathogens such as common influenza, H1N1 flu and SARS viruses in the same
manner as a military-type ‘Star Wars’ laser defense system.”

Like all viruses, the H1N1 flu virus is not able to multiply or replicate itself on its
own. If a person breathes in air that contains the H1N1 flu virus, the virus will
enter the respiratory tract and attach itself to a lung cell using its “spikes” much
like a “Velcro” tape. It will use the protein neuraminidase to break down the cell.
Once inside the cell, the virus will make use of the cell like a “production factory”
to multiply itself. It will destroy the host cell and move to another cell to continue
the destruction.

Mr. Lui further highlighted the importance of seeking out air-cleansing products
that meet standards and suggested checking out Steril-Aire’s claims: “The EPA
(USA’s Environmental Protection Agency), in conjunction with the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security, has released test reports on several leading
brands of UVC devices. In these tests, the Steril-Aire UVC Emitter achieved
99.96% destruction in a single pass on airborne bacteria, 99% on viruses, and
96% on mould spores. It also achieved the highest ‘dose-per-watt’ of any product
tested”.

About CNA Group Ltd.

CNA Group Ltd. (“CNA”) is an award-winning specialist in the provision, design, implementation
and maintenance of advanced integrated control and automation systems and IT solutions that
enable intelligent buildings and facilities.

In late May 2006, CNA added a new dimension to its business strategy when it acquired a stake
in Beijing Herocan Environmental Engineering Tech Co. Ltd. (“Herocan”) a leading one-stop
provider of water and waste treatment solutions in China. The move which allowed the Group to
springboard into the fast-growing water and environmental sector in China is in line with CNA’s
efforts to expand into or invest in businesses with strong growth potential. CNA’s associate level
stake in Herocan is held through Standard Water Limited formerly known as China Water
Holdings Limited
Similarly, in October 2008, CNA acquired a 28%-stake in Xiamen Leccan Technology Co., Ltd.
(“Leccan”) based in Xiamen City, Fujian Province in China. Leccan specialises in the design,
construction, installation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants for the textile, printing
and electroplating industries.

CNA’s strength is in combining its domain knowledge and expertise with its proprietary SIRIUS™
system technology to build high-level and fully integrated Intelligent Building Management
Systems (“IBMS”) and Intelligent Facility Management Systems (“IFMS”) that are able to
integrate, monitor and control a diverse range of mechanical, electrical, security and climate
control systems within a building or facility.

Headquartered in Singapore, CNA has a direct presence in China, Vietnam and the Middle East,
serving an impressive list of customers in Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand,
