Setting Up Your Classes in ExamView Test Manager. (This must be done first
to use many of the online features)
Part One: Giving an Online Test on Your Local Area Network (School Network)
1. Create a folder for your tests on the school’s shared drive. The students need
to access this folder.
2. Create your test in ExamView Test Generator.
3. Once the test is complete, go to File, then Publish, then ExamView Test
Player on LAN
4. Follow the dialogue boxes. If this is a test to be graded, you will only want to
allow access to a limited number of students. When it asks you to save the
test, save it in the folder you created on the shared drive. This is very
important or the students will not be able to access it.
5. Once saved, Test Manager will open. Open the class you want to have take
the test. Click on Assignments, then Create New Assignment. Or click the
New Assignment button on the bottom of the class roster.
6.In step one, give the assignment a
name. In step two, select Online Test
Delivered over a Local Area Network. In
step three, click on the c:ExamView/Tests
icon. This will allow you to browse and
find your folder where you saved the test.
Find the folder and choose your test.
7.Complete steps 4-9 where you will
choose your parameters for the
test.
8.Click Finish.
9. Go to File, and then click Save.
10. Your test is now ready for the students to take.
1. Test Player must be installed on the computers that students are going to use. It
can be networked so your IT person can load in on multiple computers in the
school at once. Even with Test Player, students cannot take the test before the
beginning time and day you established when you made the assignment.
2. The student enters his or her
name and ID number.
3. In step two, the student will need
to click the c/ExamView/Tests
and then browse to find the folder
on the shared drive where you
have saved the test.
4. Once the student clicks on the
test, he or she will enter the
password you created and take
the test. The student can see
one question at a time. When the
student is done, he or she clicks
End.
Part Three: Retrieve Grades for a Test Taken on a Local Area Network
1. After a class or students have taken a test, open Test Manager and the class that
took the test.
Part One: Giving a ExamView Test Using a Bubble Form and Scanner
1. Like in an online test, the class rosters in Test Manager must be set up (see step
one).
2. Create your test using Test Generator and save it in your test folder.
3. Open Test Manager and select the class taking the test.
4. Click on Assignments, then Create New Assignment. Or click the New
Assignment button on the bottom of the class roster.
5. In step one, give the assignment a name. In step two, select Online Test
Delivered over a Local Area Network. In Step three, select your test and then
click Finish.
6. Click on File, then on Print Bubble Form and select the type of form you want to
use. The bubble sheet will then print for the students you select.
Part Two: Retrieving Grades for a Test Using a Bubble Form and Scanner.
1. Open Test Manager and the Class that took the test.
2. Click on Assignment, then Get Results From, then Scanner.
3. Choose the scanner (It needs to be connected to your computer and must be
Twain compliant). If your scanner is not listed, click Detect Scanner.
4. Set the number of the first question.
5. Click Start Scanning. When all of the scan sheets have completed, click Finish.
6. If there are open ended questions, simply click on the test score for any student
and grade the open ended questions. You will see each student’s responses for
every question
Note: There are two ways to give an online test at home. 1. Test Player can be used at home and the
test will have the limitations you set up using Test Manager, but the grades cannot be automatically
imported into Test Manager. The student will have to print his or her results and bring them to school or
copy them and email the results to the teacher. 2. (Better) Using an html file. In this format the results
are automatically sent to the teacher. The grades will still not automatically import into Test Manager.
Both ways will be explained.
1. The student must download Test Player at home using the following link:
http://www.fscreations.com/download_trials.php
2. Create the test following the steps above for giving tests on a local area network.
3. Email the students the test saved in Test Manager once you create the
assignment. Make sure the file ends in .eot or Test Player will not recognize it.
This is the format created for an assignment in Test Manager.
4. Students will need to save the attachment (test) on their Desktop or My
Documents. When they open Test Player they will need to browse to the
Desktop or My Documents to find the file.
5. The test will have all the time limits, etc. that you set up for the test in Test
Manager. When they finish, they will need to print the results and bring them in
or copy them and email them to the teacher. They will not be sent automatically.
ExamView:
• Classes, Assignments, and Reports are managed from Test Manager.
• Assignments to classes are made based on tests/worksheets created within Test Generator.
• Class rosters can be imported into Test Manager – the file must be converted to a .txt file.
• Tests can be published in HTML format – these can be placed for student access on a teacher
web site or e-mailed to students. Individual e-mails containing results are sent to the teacher –
results cannot be imported into Test Manager.
• Web Study Guides can be published in HTML format – these can be placed for student access
on a teacher web site or e-mailed to students. Results cannot be imported into Test Manager.
Student can be provided feedback and be guided to sections in the book for remediation.
No results are sent to the teacher. Students would print these and turn them in to the teacher if
required.
• Tests can no longer be published to the FS Creations LEARNING and TEST CENTER web site.
Results were available in Test Manager with this service. FS Creations stopped this service in
December 2008.
• Bubble sheets for scanning can be printed from within Test Generator or Test Player. These
bubble sheets are used for plain paper scanners.
• The scanner we provide as free-with-order (Apperson Advantage 1200) is one of two that shows
as automatic choices in the ‘Get Results from Scanner’ option.
• ExamView is compatible with many scanners available through a connection wizard available in
Test Manager. Some are listed via the following link, however, a scanner may still be compatible
even if it doesn’t show up on the list : http://www.fscreations.com/ev_scanners.php
