vCenterOperationsManagerforViewextendsthefunctionalityofvCenterOperationsManagerAdvanced andvCenterOperationsManagerEnterprisetomonitorandmanageVMwareViewenvironments.Thisis donethroughthevCenterOperationsManagerforViewAdapterwhichgetsthetopologyfromtheVMware Viewenvironment,collectsmetricsandothertypesofinformationfrommanageddesktops,andintroduces thisintovCenterOperationsManagerEnterprise.

Features of vCenter Operations Manager for View


vCenterOperationsManagerforViewextendsthefunctionalityofvCenterOperationsManagerEnterprise, andenablesITadministratorsandHelpDeskspecialiststomonitorandmanagetheViewVDIenvironments. vCenterOperationsManagerforViewisbuiltontopofthevCenterOperationsManagerEnterprise. Therefore,itincludesthefunctionalityofcollectingperformancedatafrommonitoredsoftwareandhardware resourcesinyourenterpriseandprovidespredictiveanalysisandrealtimeinformationaboutproblemsin yourVDIinfrastructure.Itpresentsdataandanalysisthroughalerts,inconfigurabledashboards,and predefinedpagesintheuserinterface. Customizing Dashboards and Widgets


VMwareViewspecificdashboardsandresourcesareautomaticallyconfiguredwhenyouinstallvCenter OperationsManagerforView.ThesedashboardsandresourcesaddedaspartofthevCenterOperations ManagerforViewinstallationanddeploymentarepreconfigureddashboards,resources,metrics,andalerts. AswithvCenterOperationsManagerEnterprise,youcancustomizeyourvCenterOperationsManagerfor Viewworkspace.Dependingonyouraccessrights,youcanadd,delete,andarrangewidgetsonyour dashboards,editwidgetconfigurationoptions,andconfigurewidgetinteractions. vCenterOperationsManagerforViewincorporatesthehealthratingsfeatureofvCenterOperationsManager EnterprisewhichgivesyouaquickoverviewofthecurrentstateofaresourceinyourVDIenvironment. vCenterOperationsManagerEnterpriseusesaninternallygeneratedmetricinsteadoftheHealthbadgeused byvCenterOperationsManagerAdvanced.ThevCenterOperationsManagerEnterprisehealthscoreis calculatedusingresourcemetricanomaliesandisbestdescribedasanindicatorofhowcloselytheresourceis behavingtoitsnormalobservedbehavior.Ifmanyresourcemetricsareoutsidetheirexpectedrange,then thisisreflectedinadecreasedHealthscore. Running the vCenter Operations Manager for View Windows Installer


Afteryouhavedownloadedtheinstallationpackage,youarereadytoinstallthevCenterOperationsManager forViewAdapter. Afterdownloadingtheinstallationpackage,youwillhaveaninstaller .exefile. AgreetothepresentedEULAsandfollowtheinstructionspresentedbytheinstallationwizard. AfteryouinstallvCenterOperationsManagerforView,theconfigurationutilitywillbelaunchedbydefault. AfterinstallingvCenterOperationsManagerforViewyouarereadytoconfigurethevCenterOperationsfor ViewAdapterusingtheutilityprovided. Prerequisites NOTEConfirmthatthevCenterOperationsManagerEnterpriseisinstalledandrunningbeforeyoustartthe vCenterOperationsManagerforViewadapter. ThevCenterOperationsManagerforViewadapterneedsaccesstoanumberofresourcestocollect informationabouttheVMwareViewtopologyandmetrics.Connectioninformationandcredentialsare requiredforeachresource,whichyouconfigurefromthevCenterOperationsViewAdapterSettingsutility. Bydefault,thevCenterOperationsViewAdapterSettingsutilityislaunchedafterinstallationcompletes. Additionally,youmustconfiguretheViewConnectionServertoallowremotePowerShellconnectionsbefore theViewAdapterservicecanbestarted.AscriptisincludedwiththevCenterOperationsManagerforView Installationpackagethatyoucanuseforthistask,whichisdescribedinConfiguringtheViewConnection Serveronpage 17.

Configuring the View Connection Server


BeforestartingthevCenterOperationsManagerforViewAdapterservice,youmustconfiguretheView ConnectionServer.ConfigurationisnecessarytoenableremotePowerShellsessionsandinitializeView PowerShellextensionsontheViewConnectionServer. 1 CopythePowerShellcommandEnableViewPS.cmdfromthevCenterOperationsManagerforView AdapterinstallationfolderontotheVMwareViewConnectionServer. ThedefaultinstallationfolderforvCenterOperationsManagerforViewis: c:\Program Files\VMware\vCenter Operations\View Adapter 2 OntheViewConnectionServer,asadministrator,runthefollowingcommand: EnableViewPS.cmd TheEnableViewPS.cmdscriptdoesthefollowing:

ToconfigurethevCenterOperationsforViewadapter,youusethevCenterOperationsforViewAdapter Settingsutility.Bydefault,thisutilityislaunchedafterthevCenterOperationsforViewAdapterinstallation completes.YoucanalsostartitfromtheStartMenubyusing:
Start Menu->VMware->vCenter Operations for View->View Adapter Settings

WhenyouinitiallyruntheViewAdapterSettingsutility,revieweachtabtofillinallappropriatecredentials andconnectionsettings.Afterinstallation,youcanruntheutilityatanytimefromtheStartmenutoupdate theconfiguration. EachgroupofsettingshasaTestbuttonthatyoucanusetoverifyconnectionsettingsandcredentials.After allsettingsareconfigured,clickApplytosavethesettingsandstartthevCenterOperationsManagerforView Adapterservice. IMPORTANTItisrecommendedthatyouclickTestafterconfiguringeachgroupofsettingsoneach configurationtab.Thisrunsatestthattheconfigurationissetupcorrectlysofar.

Configuring View connection settings and credentials (View Settings tab)


YoucanconfigureViewserverconnectionsettingsandcredentialsontheViewSettingstab. TheusernameandpasswordthatyouentermusthavereadaccesstotheViewConnectionServer.(Typically, thisaccountisincludedintheLocalAdminsgroupontheserver).

Optionally,youcanspecifyoneormoreViewdesktoppoolsthatyouwanttomonitor.Ifnopoolsare specified,thenallpoolswillbemonitored.
