In all parts of the world there are challenges experienced due to environmental health issues or problems.

Some of these problems are more prevalent in other areas than others. In an isolated part of Ecuador, Chevron dumped billions of gallons of toxic waste water into the rainforest from 1964 to 1992 while operating hundreds of oil wells.

Jamaica as a small mountainous island, is particularly vulnerable to water pollution effects. Water pollution comes mainly from sewage treatment plants, industrial activities. Dirt is also major cause of pollution in our rivers and streams. Most of the dirt washing into rivers and streams comes from exposed earth. The solution is to stop the dirt from setting into the stream by disturbing land as little as possible. The lead Agency responsible for environmental management, is National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA). There primary responsibilites are : Develop and implement water pollution control programmes Implement a comprehensive water quality monitoring programme in collaboration with various stakeholder agencies

The Governments strategy to satisfy this demand uses a combination of methods including new household taps, catchment tanks and the increased trucking of water. The strategy is to install piped systems where economically viable and with availability of financial resources.
