Distractive
Driving Day
May 3, 2013
send
Your life is in
your hands.
It can wait.
9:11
On May 3rd the faculty parking lot was transformed into a mock crash
scene with two wrecked cars donated by Magills Towing. This distractive
driving scene was created to display how serious the consequences can be
when engaging in activities that impair ones judgment while driving such
as texting and drinking. Once started, one by one, Monroeville emergency
vehicles started to arrive on the scene. The police demonstrated a field
sobriety test, while the firefighters ran through the proper procedures of
removing the victims from the automobiles. The final attention grabber was
the arrival of the Life Flight helicopter, which landed on scene. The person-
nel from the aircraft went through the typical procedures when arriving at a
crash scene.
Students from several programs were involved in the demonstration. The
Advertising Design students designed/created and made the shirts for the
entire student body. The Emergency Response Services students served as
actors with the Cosmetology students applying their make-up. The Mul-
timedia Design students documented the event and you can find the Dis-
tractive Driving Demonstration 2013 video by searching Forbes Road CTC
on YouTube. The Computer Networking & Security students handled the
pledging and the give-aways for the students.
This program was sponsored in part by the national Act Out Loud. The
Future Business Leaders of America chapter at Forbes initiated the grant.
