DIVISION 2 - SITE WORK SECTION 02900 - TERMITE PROTECTION PART 1 - GENERAL 1.

01 DESCRIPTION This Section covers providing termite protection including, but not limited to: 1. Chemical treatment for protection against termite infestation on the soil underneath the floor slabs, grade beams and footings of all buildings constructed under this Contract. Chemical treatment for protection against termite infestation on the soil underneath all sidewalks or paved areas which are within 3 meters of the main School building, utility buildings and Guard House.

QUALITY ASSURANCE A. B. Reference Codes and Standards: Comply with applicable Coded and Standards as specified herein. Local Qualified Subcontractors: Following subcontractors are known to have the technical capability of performing the chemical treatment specified in this Section: 1. 2. 3. C. S.A.M.E.S. Field Quality Control: 1. 2. Chemical treatment may only be mixed and applied by workers that have previous experience in this application. Prior to the first application of chemical treatment, the CONTRACTOR shall demonstrate to Company Representative the procedures which will be followed in mixing and applying the chemical treatment.

1.03

SUBMITTALS A. B. Submit to Company Representative for approval technical qualifications of any subcontractor proposed for performing the chemical treatment application. Submit to Company Representative for approval technical data on pesticide chemicals proposed for use. Complete information must be submitted which describes the chemical components, the proportions to be used in mixing or diluting, decontamination agents, and antidotes in case of accidental poisoning. Submit to Company Representative for approval an application and safety plan which shall include, but not limited to the following information: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. A list of protective equipment to be used in the mixing and application process. A procedure to be followed for safely mixing the chemicals at the WORK Site. A procedure for the application of the chemicals which minimizes the exposure of other workers to the chemical treatment. A procedure to be followed in case concentrated chemicals are accidentally spilled on the ground or in the work area. A procedure to be followed if a worker accidentally comes in contact with concentrated chemicals.

Submit to Company Representative written warranty of the applied chemical treatment to preserve its effectiveness for a minimum of 10 years.

PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: A. Protection and Storage 1. 2. Handle chemicals in such a manner as to avoid contamination of the Site. Store and protect chemicals for termite treatment as follows: a. Construct on the Site, a shaded, lockable temporary holding area for storage of the chemicals and any equipment to be used in their mixing and application. Design and locate as approved by Company Representative. Remove this facility when WORK is completed. Place warning signs on the chemical storage area warning workers that poisonous materials are stored within. Do not store any materials within this storage area which are not directly used in the chemical treatment process. The sub-contractors foreman for the chemical treatment and the CONTRACTOR'S Safety Officer shall be the only individuals authorized to have access to the chemical storage area.

All chemicals used shall be identified with individual labels securely attached to each container. C. Product Delivery, Storage and Handling 1. 2. All chemical concentrates shall be delivered to the WORK Site in sealed drums or sealed cans. Chemicals that have been mixed at other WORK Site not witnessed by the Company Representative may not be used.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. Dursban 4TC: 1. 2. Concentrate shall be diluted with sweet water to reach a final concentration of 1% Dursban 4TC. No other product shall be approved for termite treatment without the written concurrence of the Company Representative.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 PREPARATION A. B. C. Mixing/application/etc. of the chemicals treatment shall comply with manufacturer's requirements. CONTRACTOR shall have all required safety equipment necessary for chemical treatment on the Site prior to mixing of chemical treatment. Areas ready to receive treatment shall be graded and have all soil compaction testing (if required) completed prior to mixing of chemical treatment.

INSTALLATION: A. Diluted Dursban 4TC shall be applied to ground with an approved spraying device at a coverage rate of 1 gallon per 10 square feet (4.0 liters per square meters) minimum. Application of chemical treatment shall be performed not earlier than 72 hours prior to concrete slab pouring, in order to preserve the quality of the treatment against deterioration from ultraviolet rays. If application must take place for a longer period before concrete placement, black polyethylene vapor barrier must be used over the treated area. Failure to comply with this will result in complete re-application of chemical treatment at no additional cost to SAUDI ARAMCO. SECTION 02900

Anyone who handles Dursban 4TC concentrate, i.e. who is responsible for diluting the product, must, during the dilution process, wear a respirator (for organic vapor, mist, dust and fumes), rubber gloves, fully protective clothing including long sleeved shirt, and safety shoes. Anyone who applies the diluted product to the soil must wear fully protective clothing including a hat, a dust/mist mask or a respirator, rubber gloves, etc. Do not allow the chemical product to drift onto anybody. Workers not involved in the application process shall be restricted from the area where application is taking place.

CLEAN-UP A. B. Avoid spillage, especially of concentrates, and do not contaminate wells and water sources, etc. CONTRACTOR shall decontaminate any spillage of concentrates with a "Clorox"-type product or other material as recommended by the manufacturer. CONTRACTOR shall also use absorbent material which can be used to remove the spillage to a dumpsite.

3.04

PROTECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF COMPLETED WORK A. B. Vapor barrier is to be placed over the treated soil immediately following treatment. There is to be a minimum of disturbance of the soil after treatment, since undue disturbance could compromise the integrity of the chemical barrier.

3.05

Replace or repair damage materials and defective WORK as directed by Company Representative at no additional cost to SAUDI ARAMCO. END OF SECTION
