Its been a bit over six months since you welcomed Susan and me to Central and Franklin County. I feel weve had a wonderful beginning together, and we are so happy to be here. I write this a few days after Vacation Bible School, and as I think back over that experience, much of what is good and beautiful about Central was on display. First, the emphasis on the Lord Jesus Christ. Sometimes, VBS can be a glorified play and craft time with some little Bible lessons slipped in. Centrals VBS was all about helping children come to know, love and obey the Lord Jesus. This VBS was the most Spiritfilled and Christ-centered Ive ever encountered. And one result is that fifteen children gave their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Second, VBS was saturated by prayer. Sandys prayer calendar helped us focus on particular aspects of VBS and pray during the month leading up to the event; each evening was begun by prayer and prayer took place during may class times as well. VBS is a busy, detail-intensive ministry and its all too easy to overlook prayer, but you all kept praying and as a result one could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. Third, many of you participated in VBS, giving of your time and energy. I have to admit, by Thursday night I was tired and all I did was lead an adult Bible study. Over eighty of you worked with children, or helped set up, or led the music and games - requiring preparation, energy and engagement. Central is a hands-on church where members rally together to serve in ministry, and its a blast to be part of it. Fourth, I was deeply impressed by the competency and collaborative spirit of our church staff. Sandy deserves the lions share of our gratitude for her amazing work organizing VBS, recruiting and training the team, managing the hundreds of details and giving it a Christ-centered focus. But others from your church staff participated as well - Dani and Erin leading the music, Deb presenting skits, Ron and Bertie providing administrative and custodial support. What really delighted me was how the church staff functioned as a team and plunged in to serve together. What a blessing it is for me to be part of this team of servants who love Jesus, and you. All this makes me deeply grateful to be part of the community of Gods people at Central Presbyterian.
PS - Remember that this Sunday is Fifth Sunday at Central. That means ONE blended worship service at 10 AM in the Sanctuary, followed by a pot-luck luncheon in Friendship Hall. Come dressed comfortably with a dish to share and prepared to worship God with your friends in Christ. PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com
Church Family
Dear Luncheon Committee, I want to thank you for preparing such a wonderful buffet for the family gathering after my mothers, (Jayne Nansen), funeral. Since we are from out of town, it was very difficult for us to plan such an event. We were thrilled you offered. Everyone who attended enjoyed the meal and appreciated a place to visit. Sincerely, Beth Cerri & Family
Thank you..
Dear Church Family, During my most recent challenge and hospitalization, your thoughts and prayers, cards, phone calls, flowers, food shopping and visits all contributed to my recovery. Another important contribution to my continued faith in a positive outcome was Rev. Scotts home and hospital visits. He always had a big smile, encouraging words, and wonderful prayers. Lew and I appreciate your support and best wishes. The Lord is good! In Christian Love, Lucille & Lew

Dear Central Church Family, Thank you for the many acts of kindness shown to me during my time in the hospital and at home. Thank you to Pastor Scott for his visits and to others for their visits and caring. Thanks to the Semper Fidelis/Brotherhood Class for the beautiful altar flowers. Many thanks to everyone who sent beautiful flowers and lovely cards, special wishes and hugs through Brenda. Thanks most of all for your prayers and love. You remain in my prayers. God bless you. Thank you for the many cards, phone calls, visits, and acts of kindness that we received during the loss of our mother, Shirley Rife. Your thoughtfulness was overwhelming and we truly felt surrounded by our caring church family. Your prayers lifted us up and helped to make a difficult time more bearable. The figures above show the recap of Central Presbyterian Church income versus expenses for the initial 25 weeks of 2013. If you recall, we entered 2013 with a deficit budget versus total projected income of approximately $60,100. To date, our giving is slightly over budget for 2013 and is 32% ahead of 2012 giving through the same period. Our total income is also benefiting from Bank and Trust income over budget and a small tax refund. Our spending year to date is slightly below budget. As planned for 2013, Central will need to maintain current giving and attendance growth to meet our budget obligations. We are making progress!

sanctuary and tested when the organ tuner was here recently. They will be voiced at the factory and then brought to the church for finishing. The organ is not expected to be "down" or out of use for any Sunday Worship services. The new pipes will replace the old ones with the work being done during the week. It is anticipated now that the project finish target date is around Labor Day. We will attempt to keep you informed as to progress. If you have any questions you may contact me as Organist. Wednesday, June 12 was the annual Men's Picnic. More than 30 men and boys attended and enjoyed two types of Ribs, Wings and Hot Dogs. Most of all we enjoyed talking and sharing together. There were many great dishes that were brought to be shared and true to the "manly" thing there was no dessert left of the large assortment that was brought! The rain held off just as we Eric Mellott & son, Drew ordered. Kids waded in the stream--some played bean bag toss--others ate watermelon! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

YOUTH GROUP
June has been an amazing month for the youth at Central! First, Shannon graduated from CASH with tons of scholarships and honors! Were so proud of you, Shannon! Then, the Middlers went on a beach retreat to Bethany Beach, where we learned much about the heart of God, His story, and how we can be part of it! We enjoyed lots of sunshine, a little bit of rain, fellowship, fun, worship, prayer, and spiritual discussion together! Thank you for financially and prayerfully giving us this opportunity to become closer as a church family and to grow deeper in relationship with our Lord! And thank you to Mark Hollen, Shannon Leary, and Dani Kardisco for being fearless leaders on the trip! You are very much appreciated!

CHAMBERSFEST
On July 30, 1864, Chambersburg became the only northern town to be burned by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Chambersburg bounced back quickly and has celebrated the spirit of the townspeople and the rebirth of the town every July since 1986. Numerous events are held during a 16-day period for a complete listing visit chambersburg.org/pages/ChambersFest/ On Saturday July 20 Celebrate! The Arts at Old Market Days will be held downtown. This is a street festival featuring food and craft vendors as well as entertainment. As part of this celebration, we will again have the church open for cool air and bathroom breaks. We are looking for volunteers to serve as greeters in the LWW lobby. We will need approximately 2 people for each shift: 9:00-11:00 AM, 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, 1:003:00 PM, 3:00-4:00 PM, 6:00-8:00 PM, and 8:00-10:30 PM. Last year the organizers added a new event the simulated Burning of Chambersburg. Using lazar lights and character actors, people will experience an interactive reenactment of the ransom demand and the town burning. Since this event was very well attended last year, we want to keep our building open through the evening. If you are interested in greeting, please add your name to the sign up sheet posted in the Lincoln Way lobby. This is a wonderful opportunity to share in the fun downtown and extend our Central hospitality.
