I didn't get the medical slip. But i thought i could still share my exp with the community. They asked me for the sub. i prepared. i said machines, power electronics, T&D, power sys, n control sys. They started with machines, asked me only about IM. the workin principle, slip torque characteristics in high slip region n low slip region, its reason.. i explained mathematically. Then they questioned about starting torque, ways to increase st. torque, double cage rotor, syn speed, crawling n cogging. wrt. crawling they wanted to kno wat happens wit the 2nd, 3rd , 4th.. harmonics n most importantly why. this itself took 30 mins or more, then they moved to networks, they asked me about transient response of RC circuit. i didn't prepare networks. i couldn't answer. they moved to power electronics , asked me to reduce 240 i/p voltage ac to 24 V dc , i didn't ans directly. but they gave me clues. but another person interrupted n asked me to derive Vrms=Vm/2^1/2. I asked for time, but finally i couldn't derive . they went bac to power elec qn. By tis time they decided to do away wit me. but one gentleman who went through my final yr proj decided to ask me qn related to power sys. They asked me power angle curve, n its transient behavior (equal area criterion). I answered it.

TIPS: Prepare all the charact and curves thoroughly concentrate on only 4 sub but deep knowledge is required. Be strong in fundamentals they test your fundamentals. Read Standard textbooks .. ( I have seen many reading B.L.Teraja at interview) iam not finding fault with the book but if you want to learn good concepts read standard textbooks and important thing is They dont Bother what you know you should explain it correctly. Good communication is very much required. I think this will help to the others who are aiming at DAE. Thankyou.. Chandra Kiran everything you tell they ask "WHY?" and what will happen " IF THIS IS CHANGED" some thing related to practical applications... a real thinking of the scientist!

After that the Chairman said "what is the subject we should discuss with u?"(That was the entry 2 the technical round)..I answered ,its Control System in which I'm comfortable enough...another senior member of the board asked me 2 mension 2 or 3 subjects...preferably 3..........I said Control Systems,Machines,Ckt Theory. Question asked; Ckt Theory:1) They drawn a signal having several status like a step initially, then a +ve ramp, then another step, then a -ve ramp, then another step....and said me 2 evalute the time domain expression for that particular signal...( I answered at my level best but it wasn't much satisfatory). 2) If triangular wave is applied 2 a transformer how would the o/p look?(My answer was not bad according 2 my perspective). And many more Q's were asked about inductive ckts & DC response in reactive ckts. Machines:1) In a DC m/c if field flux varied keeping V const, what will be the Flux vs speed curve? (I answered properly but I was little Slow in that particular answer). 2) In a DC m/c if field V varied keeping flux const, what will the V vs speed curve.(I answered properly).

If a load curve having a higher starting torque requirement then how the motor can be started ?(I answered almost properly) { a My interview....continued 6)They drawn several load curve on a specified motor curve and asked in which case the motor will accelerate more?(Initially I was confused ,but the moment they made the question clear to me, I answered correctly). Control Systems:1) they drawn a RC filter and told me to evaluate the stability through frequency domain analysis (I faced some hurdle with Bode plot but I did it easily with polar plot). That was the only long Question they asked about Control system(which was my 1st option)...They asked othe C.S Q's which I forgot. And then they asked some easy Q's frm Power systems which was not my preferred domain.....I answered them with my utmost effort. Then they asked about my paper........Though there was a mistake in my paper they mentioned...I agreed. Then the chairman told me"Ok u can go". I came out of the room and sit in a chair, where some people were waiting fr their interview which is yet to be taken.....some people were waiting fr their interview result.......On a whole it was the greatest interview I have faced in terms of question qualities,environment....Itwas itself a lifetym achievement 2 face such an interview.... Brought to you by Institute of Engineering Studies (IES,Bangalore) BARC interview experiences (EEE) friends here i have tried my level best to give u all.. a clear picture abt interview . ALL THE BEST looking forward to get some more batch mates from this well organized community . (EC guys plz prep. well... logic families & opams with ur favorite subj.) General Tips for BARC Interview In BARC interview, conceptual aptitude is examined rather than just the mere knowledge of the subject....that means ki u need to know the subject in great detail with complete understanding....just cramming a formula or cramming a definition will not work...u need to understand the basics behind any formula or definition.... Generally, interview panel has 6-8 members headed by a Chairman of the Committee. Each member asks questions....u r asked about ur favourite topics(generally three) and questions are focussed on that topics...they examine whether you have understood the subject or have just read it...they may start with a question and can go into the minute detail of that....it may happen that you may not answer a question completely but u know the basic fundamental. The knowledge of basic fundas pleases the committee very much. One thing I wud like to mention here that the people here are very cordial and cooperative and they want every candidate to clear the interview...they provide ample hints and help you wherever you get stuck..the interview becomes more like a discussion session and a candidate feels great after coming out of the interview. If your interview lasts for abt an hour or more then u have bright chances for a success. For Science people interview may become a bit lengthy and committee may also ask questions from other fields apart from the field u mentioned as your choice. So, the crux is, identify your strong areas, study in great depth, develop thorough understanding and be positive and confident. A lot of time is left, u can sharpen ur skills during this time... With that, I wish you all Good Luck for your interview ..... for any other information...keep posting on the community...

As most of my friends have already written that BARC interviewers always try to check wheather you have got your basics right, in a sense they check wheather your four years of engineering ware fruitful or futile. Each interview group will consist of 7-8 members which will be a blend of experts of nearly all areas of Electrical Engineering. So you can expect questions from any area. But they always ask for your favorite area and 50-100% questions may be from that area depending on the fact how you answer those questions.I am hereby listing the questions asked from me.I have told them that control systems is my favorite area. What is the difference between closed loop and open loop system, why u want closed loop system? give example of each. What are the various elements in a typical control system. Suppose you have to design a control system how will you approach that? what steps will u follow. Some questions on R-H criterial advantages and disadvantages of the same. Why the value of damping factor is kept near 0.7 in all control systems. Why control systems are always underdamped. One simple root locus problem and effect of addition of poles and zeroes. some questions on the step response of the second order system. Relation between time domain and frequency domain response.

Brought to you by Institute of Engineering Studies (IES,Bangalore) BARC interview experiences (EEE) Apart from the control systems questions on the following were asked. Parallel opearation between two transformers and load sharing among them Why CRGO is used and how eddy currents are produced and how it reduces after stacking? Motors used in fans, lifts etc. Some basic questions on induction motor Vicky Guidelines Given by Shri Brihaspati Shukla.. II Questions were also from transmission line, power system stability and protection. Though the questions were from different areas but their is nothing to panic .they will not ask formula etc and will tell the same if you require any. What I suggest you is that u choose any three topics from the following and tell that u have prepared the same for the interview, so they should ask the questions from that area only electrical machines Classical control theorey Eleltromagnetics power system protection and stability Power Electronics Transmission line Electrical circuit, network analysis etc. Hope that all this information will give you, the inkling about what is in store for you when you face the real interviewers. May you need any further help, post your question on this forum and the same will be answered within a day or two of posting. In case you need any quick information kindly dial on 09882218065 and ask for brihaspati shukla. It will be my honour to answer your questions. All the best for your written test and interviews regards.

Brought to you by Institute of Engineering Studies (IES,Bangalore) BARC interview experiences (EEE) Brihaspati Shukla sandeep detailed hi friend s please read the messages on community it is not possible for me to reply everybody. to be more descriptive i will say..... actually here the interview is quiet simple but very fundamental.so it is more about ur understanding not about text books.better u follow the standard text books. as far as subjects are concerned mainly questions will be on RLC ckts, analog ckts(opamp based ckts),transistor ckts, logic gate ckts(digital integrated ckts)different logic families, ckt theory concepts, digital electronics ckts(logic ckts),microprocessor and ckt theory concepts. emft they will not be much queries but u can always know some very basic concepts of transmission lines and electrostatics(capacitance etc.). in the starting they will ask u favourite subjects.so choose some subjects out of what i hav told just now. the only thing is they will dig u deep.like if they have put some ckt to you they can ask u further what will be the effect on waveform if change the component value or we change the component like put a capacitor in place of inductance. similarly like what is the benefit of using coaxial transmission line.which logic ckt is faster and why.whatever i have told u can follow the subjects i think that should do the job if u have prepared well.i think some basic of antenna theory like gain directivity etc monopole dipole also u can go through.communication is not asked much but in that also what ever ckt part is there in analog communication like envelope detector, mixer and others u can go through. please dont feel offended bcoj i m getting many scraps and i m not able to reply everybody.

Brought to you by Institute of Engineering Studies (IES,Bangalore) BARC interview experiences (EEE) anyways best of luck for all of u for the interview. regards sandeep sandeep @tanoo in signals and systems also u should emphasize on basics like if u multiply two signals in time domain what kind of effect will be there in frequency domain.and reverse in frequency domain.give more importance to square pulse.effect of sampling on signals frequency domain.nyquist criterion and aliasing how does it happen.convolution and other concepts are also very important.second thing what i will tell u dont go by the words just written over here prepare all the basics i am just giving the guidelines based on my experience and intution so please try to concentrate all the basics. one thing i can tell u dont try to learn much high funda things go for the basics... regards sandeep
