PRECEPTORSHIP WEEKLY OBJECTIVES MOTHER BABY UNIT Given a patient assignment under the supervision of a preceptor, the preceptee will: 1. 2. 3. 4. perform and complete newborn and mom assessments, report findings to RN, and chart by 1000 each clinical shift. appropriately care for a post operative C-section mom according to agency protocol ( assessments, charting etc. ) complete an admission of a couplet from labor and delivery per agency protocol including assessments, and charting within one hour. competently discharge mom and newborn from hospital to home including paperwork, doctors orders, discharge teaching, car seat safety, infant release and removal of safety band, and gift packets.

PRECEPTORSHIP WEEKLY OBJECTIVES EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT NR75D Rose Bianchi, RN, DNSc. Given a client assignment under the supervision of a preceptor, the preceptee will: 1. 2. 3. 4. orient self to unit including equipment, supplies, and medications. start an IV according to agency protocol within 10 minutes. perform an appropriate triage assessment of a new patient including patient history and assessment within 5 10 minutes. Initiate an appropriate plan of care or care protocol after completing the initial assessment.

PRECEPTORSHIP WEEKLY OBJECTIVES LABOR AND DELIVERY

Given a client assignment under the supervision of a preceptor, the preceptee will: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. set up for a delivery including equipment, etc. needed for mom and baby. perform post delivery care for mom and baby according to agency protocol. do a newborn care including vital signs, medications, name bands, measurements, footprints, bath, charting, etc. prep a mom for a C-section including shaving, foley, IV start, etc. perform vaginal exam on a mom in labor ( need a Special Contract to learn to do this. )

PRECEPTORSHIP WEEKLY OBJECTIVES NICU Given a client assignment under the direct supervision of a preceptor , the preceptee will: 1. manage the care of a neonate with: a. hyperbilirubinemia b. hypoglycemia according to units care protocol. gavage feed a premie according to unit protocol. appropriately care for a premie on a ventilator according to unit protocol. teach parents newborn care and promote parent premie bonding.

PRECEPTORSHIP WEEKLY OBJECTIVES CTU / MED-SURG Given a client assignment under the direct supervision of a preceptor, the preceptee will: 1. 2. monitor daily lab results to determine when the patient needs KCL, Magnesium Sulfate, &/or PRBC replacement. perform skills according to agency protocols IV starts; dressing changes simple to complex, IV, PICC, CVL; foley catheterization; NG insertion; staple removal; steri strips; etc. notify the doctor of changes in patient condition, need for new doctors orders, etc. manage the care of four patients in a safe, competent, and timely manner. give report to the next shift via written report, oral report, or taping in an organized manner. delegate tasks to CNAs or LVNs at the beginning of the shift according to their job description.
