Why Electrical Hazardous Area Equipment?


The training and practical assessment programme is provided for electrical personnel who undertake the physical installation and assembly of new 'Ex' equipment and, who perform preventive maintenance and inspections on previously installed equipment.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes
Candidates will understand the difference between the circuit requirements for normal full load circuit demands, overload circuit limitations and the necessity for rapid disconnection under short circuit condition situations. As electrical protection schemes must fulfill a fundamental role in the protection of plant and distribution networks, candidates will understand both rapid disconnection of faulted circuits and discrimination required to minimize disruption to healthy circuits within the distribution system.

Learning Outcomes
Candidates will understand the a.c. Generation theory, the operation of alternators and some of the practical applications of alternators in the Oil and Gas Industry. This includes both Single and Three phase alternators. Candidates will be able to maintain alternators in a safe manner in the workplace environment. Candidates will understand methods of excitation and automatic voltage regulation. Candidates will be able to interpret electrical diagrams and perform the safe isolation of electrical networks. Candidates will understand the principles of transformation systems and carry out basic calculations of transformers. Candidates will have knowledge of parallel operation and maintenance of transformers.
