Saint Margaret Mary School

Saint Margaret Mary Catholic School is an enthusiastic, faith-filled Catholic community committed to strong academic standards and Christian values. Saint Margaret Mary Catholic School offers a challenging curriculum that includes: reading, math social studies, science, language arts, religion, computer technology, art, physical education, music and Spanish. We are forming the leaders of tomorrow through student-centered instruction, developing the whole person: intellectual, social, spiritual and physical. Learning is made active through a process of student discovery, using manipulatives, Smartboard technology, creative expression, and group interaction, to name a few. Saint Margaret Mary offers a wide-variety of extra-curricular activities: basketball, volleyball, Book Club, Forensics, Newspaper, Student Government and Economics Club. Saint Margaret Marys campus style school consists of five different buildings includingstate-of-the-art gymnasium, cafeteria, primary school building, beautifully constructed church and our parish center. The size of our campus allows for students to move around throughout the day and for teachers to enhance students educational opportunities by utilizing our many physical resources. Saint Margaret Mary students actively engage our parish community through after Mass activities. Students learn the duty and joy of giving back by participating in many service projects throughout the school year. The Catholic tradition of service to those in need is an integral part of the curriculum. Despite the beautiful facility and exceptional resources, the biggest asset that Saint Margaret Mary School has are experienced, caring, and energetic teachers. Saint Margaret Mary will be holding its first annual auction at Mt. Mary College in an effort to raise funds that will assist us in continuing to provide our students an excellent Catholic School experience. Please contact our school office (414) 463-8760 to make a donation or buy tickets.

U.S. Bank to host traditional fireworks show at lakefront July 3

Dear Dr. Winter, How can I protect my child's teeth? The best way to answer that question is to first discuss when should my child see a dentist? The best way to prevent oral health problems is to take your child to a dentist regularly. After your child's first dental visit-which should occur about six months after your child's first tooth erupts or by the child's second birthday-he or she should see the dentist every six months. Early visits will help familiarize your child with the dental office, reducing anxiety and making future visits less stressful. In addition to examining the development of your child's mouth, the dentist can teach you how to ensure good oral health and recommend special preventive care if necessary. Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among children, and unfortunately, children who develop cavities in their baby teeth are more likely to develop cavities in their permanent teeth, as well. Protect your child from tooth decay and other oral health issues by taking steps to care for your child's teeth throughout his or her childhood. The next question is how to protect your child from tooth decay. Prolonged exposure to sugar-containing liquids can cause tooth decay in children,so limit your child's consumption of sugary beverages like soda or fruit juices. If you give your child a sippy cup for long periods of time, fill it only with water. Children should learn to drink from a regular cup as early as possible so that liquid is less likely to collect around teeth that way. Also try to limit your child's consumption of sugary or starchy snacks, especially those that can remain stuck on the teeth after eating. As a parent, you should care for your child's oral hygiene until the child is old enough to take responsibility for their daily routine of brushing AND flossing.. Make sure your child brushes for two minutes at least twice a day using a pea sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste. Before age two you can clean your child's gums with a damp cloth and brush with water. Flossing should begin as soon as your child has two teeth that touch each other. Make sure your child gets fluoridated water whether it's bottled or from the tap. Lastly. The best advise we can give you is to lead by example. Brushing and flossing your teeth with your child will teach him or her to understand the importance of good habits and good oral hygiene. Dear Dr. Winter, how do I decide if it's better to have a root canal and crown lengthening or just pull it and place an implant? Great question! Your dentist will look at the remaining tooth structure, length of the root and condition of your adjacent teeth and give you the pro's and cons of each option.

The U.S. Bank fireworks display will light up the sky over Milwaukees lakefront at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. Over 20,000 shells, controlled by a state-of-the-art electronic system, will be launched from two barges on Lake Michigan, off the shore of Veterans Park. The fireworks will not be rescheduled in the event of severe

weather. The U.S. Bank Fireworks show will be spectacular, said Bill Bertha, president of U.S. Bank in Milwaukee. Its a great time for families and friends to get together. Nearly a million people are expected to enjoy the fireworks. This event is also a boon to the local econo-

Generally speaking if a tooth can be saved for a minimum of 5 years that treatment may be acceptable. So if there is a long root left and the gum tissue is healthy, a root canal procedure and judicious crown lengthening may be a great choice. If the prognosis is poor and it is difficult to get at least 4 mm of clean tooth to cement a crown to with at least 2 mm of additional root that the gum tissue can adhere to ( we call this biologic width) then the tooth should be removed, socket grafting should be performed and an implant placed. We invite our readers to come in for a complimentary consultation or a new patient comprehensive examination and x-ray visit. Parking operations along the lakefront begin July 3 at 6 a.m. RV parking is available. Visitors should plan to arrive early, because, at some point, North Lincoln Memorial Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic, and dropping off passengers will not be allowed. SPRING CLEANING SPECIALS

DONT JUST SPRING CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS. . . . . .

By Tresa Erickson With temperatures heating up, you are spending more and more time outdoors. Youre working on your flowerbeds, sprucing up your garden shed and more. Oh, how you love the warm weather. It makes you want to throw open your doors and windows and bring the outdoors in. Lucky for you, you can. Here are some tips. Bring in the natural light Replace those heavy window coverings with lighter ones wherever possible. Use sheers instead of drapes. Pull up those blinds. Clean your doors and windows, open them on good days and remove anything obstructing the view outdoors. Opt for lighter, earthier colors Planning to do a little repainting this spring? Choose lighter, earthier shades, like greens, blues, browns and yellows. Any color that reminds you of nature will help bring the outdoors in. If you dont plan to repaint, you can still bring in natural colors by changing out accessories like pillows and throws. Add natural materials Bamboo, hemp, jute, rattan, seagrass and wicker are just some of Mother Natures offerings you can bring into your d_cor. Replace your plastic mini-blinds with rattan blinds, purchase some wicker baskets for your magazines and throw

down a couple of seagrass rugs. Incorporate natural accessories Mother Nature provides some of the best accessories around, from pinecones and seashells to pebbles and stones to fruit and vegetables. Incorporate these into your decor wherever possible. Trade in that artificial floral centerpiece on your mantel for a bowl of seashells. Add a tray of lemons and limes to your dining room table. Stack some rocks on your hearth. Entice the senses Invoke the feel of Mother Nature everywhere you can in your home. Freshen the air with some woody incense, fragrant potpourri or fresh-cut flowers. Bring the sound of water to your space with a fountain or two. Hang some nature photos or murals. Although not real, a wall-size mural of a bamboo garden or a wooded forest can make you feel like you are right there in the outdoors. Go green Anytime you make a new purchase, look for the most eco-friendly option available. When shopping for flooring, consider bamboo, cork and wood over man-made materials. When shopping for paint, look for brands low in VOCs, fungicides and biocides. Natural paint and milk paint are ideal. When shopping for linens, look for earth-friendly ones. Of course, one of the best and easiest ways to bring the outdoors is through houseplants. Accept all seedlings and shoots, visit your local nursery for other options and place all of your houseplants where they can be seen. It doesnt take much to bring the outdoors into your space. Start sprucing it up now, and when the sun goes down and youre forced to come inside, you might not mind it so much.

Capuchins Run Walk for Hungry to German Fest set for July 25
The Capuchins' Run Walk for the Hungry to German Fest, once again named the charity for the German Fest 5K run and two-mile walk, will be held at 7 p.m. July 25 at the lakefront. This is the 8th year for the event whose proceeds are shared by the Capuchin ministries, St. Ben's Community Meal and House of Peace, in order to feed the hungry. "This is an important event for Milwaukee's hungry," said Capuchin Friar Brother Dave Schwab. "Not only do 100% of the event's proceeds go to feeding those who are without, but Usinger's Sausage has once again donated one pound of product for every runner and walker. Our goal this year is 3,000 participants. That adds up to a lot of food!" New this year will be pre-event festivities at the US Cellular Stage and discounts for teams of 10 or more. Teams also have their team name printed on their T-Shirts if registered by July 8. The $25 run and $20 walk registration fee includes entrance into German Fest, a $5 German Fest food and drink gift coupon, and a 2-for-1 return coupon to German Fest. Overall trophies and age category medals to top runners will be presented. Bill Michaels, the Big Unit, will be hosting the event. Chips will be used to time and score the 5K participants. A separate two-mile walk route through Lakeshore State Park will be timed, but not scored. "What's great about this event is that it has a little of everything for everyone," said Schwab. "For the runners, we have a professionally managed event. For the walkers, we have a separate course so they can enjoy a stroll along the lake. We will have runner awards in 13 different age divisions so not only will the elite runners be recognized, but runners of all ages. After the awards ceremony and drawings, everyone then enjoys German Fest." To register for the Capuchins' Run Walk for the Hungry to German Fest, go to www.CapuchinsRunWalkForTheHungry.org. St. Ben's Community Meal and House of Peace are Capuchin ministries and are part of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, which is headquartered in Detroit, and serves Capuchin ministries worldwide.
