Scenario
Administrators can customize the interface for groups of users. This can help simplify the interface for novice users while maintain the more advanced functionality for power users. Administrators can also personalize the home page to target content to groups of users.
Objectives
In this lab, you will: Define a custom Home tab and other preferences for a group of users Understand how a user can override administrator defined preferences Understand how administrator defined preferences are inherited
5. The BI lauch pad Preferences action is opened to allow you to define the preferences for the selected group (GP_Train-00) This page looks much like the preferences page that users see within BI launch pad 6. Uncheck No Preferences Defined. This enables the rest of the page so that you can define the preferences for the selected group.
7. In the section Home Tab > Select Home Tab click Browse Home Tab 8. Navigate to Folders > Public Folders > Training_Webinar_Folder and select Dashboard_swf1 , click Open
9. In the section; Choose columns displayed in Documents tab: 1. Uncheck Last Run 2. Uncheck Type 3. Check Description 10. Select Save & Close to save your settings for the GP_Train- 00 group. 11. Logon to BI launch pad as user: 00, password: 00 to see the changes. 00 is a member of the GP_train- 00 group 12. Home tab displayed is Dashboard_swf1 13. Columns displayed in Documents are; Title, Instances and Description
6. Select Save & Close to save your preference settings. 7. Select the Home tab to see that Direct_Access_Devlopment.rpt_OK reports is displayed 8. Remove your preference settings. To revert back to administrator defined preferences, select Preferences link and check the option for Use Default Settings (Administrator defined). 9. Now the user 00 use only the Default Settings (Administrator defined), so the Dashboard_swf1
Note: The Preferences on the GP_train-all group have not been updated from the default settings (default home tab) 1. Logon to BI launch pad as user 00. The display Home tab is Dashboard_swf1 As 00 is in 2 groups the system looks at the BI launch pad Preferences of both groups to determine which preferences to use for 00. The GP_train-all group does not have preferences defined and the GP_train- 00 group does The system will use the preferences of the group that has preferences defined. 2. Logon to CMC with train-00 to set BI launch pad Preferences for the group GP_train-all. On the GP_train-all group, set the Home tab = serverStartup (acrobat), located in Folders > Public Folders > Training_Webinar_Folder
Logon to BI launch pad as user: 00bak. , password: 00bak. 3. 00bak. is a member of GP_train-all.group so the Preferences (Home tab) displayed are for his group (Home tab = serverStartup ) 4. Logout 00bak
Logon to CMC as user: train-00, password: train-00. 5. Create a new user in the group GP_Train-00 called this user 00GP00 with the password 00GP00 6. Logon to BI launch pad as user: 00GP00, password: 00GP00. 7. 00GP00 is a member of GP_train-00 group so the Preferences (Home tab) displayed are for his group (Home tab = Dashboard_swf1) 8. Logout 00GP00

Now that Preferences have been defined on both groups what preferences does 00 see as a member of both groups? 14. The preferences displayed are for GP_train-00 group (Home tab = Dashboard_swf1) When preferences have been defined for both groups that a user is a member of the system determines the users preferences by the group with the lower ID. In this case the GP_train-00 has the lower ID Check the ID of each group in the CMC.
