Exam Snapshot The Aptitude Test for Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore was conducted on May 15, 2013 in 6 centers across the countries. Similar to the way it was last year, the IPM Aptitude test 2013 was not individually timed, so the candidates had the liberty of moving across sections any time through the length of the test. Scores in both the sections should be non-negative in order to be considered for shortlisting. Instructions given in the question paper suggest that there might be sectional cut offs. The test continued its trend of surprising test takers who would come to the hall expecting the paper to be on similar lines as last year. This year, the Logical Reasoning (LR) and Data Interpretation (DI) questions were conspicuous by their absence. The overall level of difficulty was slightly more than it was last year. The challenge of 100 questions in 120 minutes remained the key differentiator this year too. Section-I The quantitative ability section was a notch or two above what it was the previous year. The entire 60 questions were purely quant-based, with no DI or LR sets. Questions came from topics ranging from percentages, profit and losses, number system, time and work, time and distance, mixtures and alligations, geometry, logarithms, probability, averages, simple and compound interest. While the questions were not extremely difficult, they certainly were no sitters that could be solved in under a minute. The laborious computations made solving a few questions time consuming, while there were a whole lot of others such as the apples/oranges arranged in boxes, the range of a logarithmic expression etc. that were difficult to crack. Attempts in the range of 40-44 with an accuracy of 80% will hold one in good stead. Section-II The Verbal Ability section was more on expected lines, with a continued high focus on vocabulary and RC, with 10 questions each under them. Questions from vocabulary included the synonym/antonym questions, the analogy questions, and the ones on word usage. There were two RC passages, both on the Indian culture. While the RC questions were inference-based, the level of difficulty was perceived to be at a comfortable level by our students. Questions from other areas included para framing, suitable conclusion, sentence completion and grammar. Attempts in the range of 28-32, with an accuracy of 80% can be considered a safe bet. Expected cut-off: Overall cut-off might be in the range of 190-200. The individual cut-offs are likely to be in the range of 100 for section I and 75 for the section II. IIM authorities will declare the interview shortlist on May 22, 2013 and the interviews will be held from June 1-4, 2013. Wishing you the very best! T.I.M.E. team
