Brief The formula of new professionals entering to the workforce system plus all the potential knowledge at hand it is changing corporatism to its structure. New tendencies are creating new way of doing business. Those tendencies are steering back to people and thinkers are creating theories where productivity is directly related to people wellness. Words such as life-work balance, opportunities, happy environment didnt quite fit in the old school formed companies, nowadays they are the trend of new policies and companies are willing to look at them as a possibility of change. Smile Average Looks like the model of separate your emotions of your job is being overpassed by new trend of concepts and theories. These theories objectives are still to increase productivity but focusing on the individual psyche rather than taking money as the only motivator to increase performance.

If you think that money and other external rewards are the only way to motivate yourself, your staff and even your members, it is time for a change Samantha Whitehorne. The Center for Association
Leadership

With its origins in psychology, the concept of smiling as a therapy was used to reduce stress on adults and children with social abilities disorders. Studies on Uppsala University in Sweden have shared that any human being or some living animals cant frown to a smile, au contraire, induces to mimic the expression and relax the mind.

Smile therapy origins.

Smile has a powerful influence since earlier times; some tribes way out of the occident world, base their communication on smiling. enhancing hormone endorphin and overall reduce blood pressure. Bottom line, it makes you happy. New theories of happiness in a work environment Gurus like Alexander Kjerulf, Ron Gutman, Shawn Achor and Daniel Pink, suggest in their studies that happiness is essential for productivity in companies. They suggest that current methods of motivating employees are obsolete and are useless for the new professionals going out the universities. Companies not giving an opportunity to these new methods may encounter generational gaps on upcoming years. How is it related to business? In the manufacturing shop many varieties of activities and processes interact between each other doing overall production very complex. Besides, the model of business Hi mix-low volume makes the model very dynamic and requires hi levels of quality and productivity. These activities demand special training for operators, specialized engineers and a staff knowledgeable of trends in the industry and electronics manufacturing. Smile average will increase productivity and therefore, it is urgent to embrace the methodology. Going with this novelty will situate the company on a place where not many companies are willing to take the risk. The cost is not high, a few resources to gather information, communication, few

video and picture cameras, and of course the will of see on TOP management. As a matter of fact it is more expensive to start up the machinery used to deal with quality problems, productivity falls and customers complaints. On the other hand, it will help to reach companys desire to be on the TOP ten Great Place to work companies TM. [1] The origin of Smile and happiness applied to the work place to gain in quality and productivity may sound difficult to adopt as we are not used to think of feelings for the work place. However it can be treated as any other given project, with targets standards and measurements of performance. Starts with a theory; followed by the objective, the plan and finalizing with the ongoing and control. Theory Happiness methodology started to obtain signs of improvement on big retailer companies, making happier the workforce. In his study Alexander Kjerulf, gives his 10 reasons why happiness at work is the ultimate productivity booster. [2]

1. Happy people works better with others. 2. Happy people are more creative. 3. Happy people fix problems instead of complain about them. 4. Happy people have more energy.

Money is a motivator but just one way, if you dont pay people enough they will underperform, but if money is not a factor then think about the tasks. Three factors will lead to a better performance, not to mention personal satisfaction: Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. [4] Autonomy is the desired to be selfdirected. It creates engagement. Mastery is the urge to get better at stuff. It creates satisfaction. Purpose is the need for transcending. Humans want to leave an imprint.

Those three characteristics Daniel Pink is presenting in his study are the milestones to job factors improvement. This is a challenge for any company who wants to over perform. Lets talk about models How happy are people in the workplace it is difficult to measure. Inquiries are not accurate because people many times respond to them in a politically correct sense biasing results of the inquiry. Proposed model: Based on previous theories and conclusions. Im proposing a model that explains how to know if people are happy on his workplace. Smiling People = People + Happiness
Key Job Factors

To know the happiness of the employees, CareerBliss evaluated more than 250,000 companies. TOP 50 evaluated companies presented same pattern. Key factors for happiness are work-life balance, career advancement programs, benefits, ones relationship with the boss and co-workers, the work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and job autonomy. I suggest defining three modes of smile: A person is happy if key job factors are met. If a person is happy, will tend to smile to the events given in a work place therefore a Smile average will tell us how happy is people in the workplace. Expected Results The way of the policies applied in the work place to increase productivity are ephemeral, they function while the boss is watching, or until the employee expend the last bit of his bonus, This is happening because there is no intrinsic motivation. Staff needs to flip ways of gather data to increase productivity; however, current methods are obsolete. Smile average will shortcut directly to what produces impact on peoples motivation. Low, when individual is smiling with his mouth only. Medium, when individual is smiling with mouth, showing teeth. High, when individual is smiling with mouth, showing teeth and using eyes. Big laugh and playing in the workplace is not considered as smiling and will be out of the data. Option1. Having people hovering around production floor. Shouldnt be noticed. Checking and recording smiles of 10 people each day in a time span of 30 min. Option 2. Purchase Smile shutter mode cameras and have people hovering around the floor with the camera on to record smiles in the same amount of time. Approach to data handling (statistical) Data collection can be then analyzed under affinity diagram. We can add to data on production areas, departments, operation performed, gender and hour of day. How to measure success. The expected results. In average, a happy people smiles more than 50 times a day while awake. This gives us at least 3 smiles per hour, therefore we expect at least 1 smile per person per event measured. Take as a starting points your productivity, and quality performance indicator. Once

Measurement Measuring smiles in the work place can be aided of several techniques. But first it is required to set a base line.

known what you smile average is, set the goal to improve your average by improving your key job factors and again measure your productivity performance. Timeline and costs As most of continuous improvement projects going with this methodology require expenses. Requirements are depending on how big the operation is but at least two persons to record smile average on the floor, capturing data, to analyze information and presenting results. Smiling shutter cameras are required as well. From conception of the plan to the first data analysis two months are a good approximation for this methodology. The urgency really depends of the accountability of the staff. Risks Methodologies as this, have the risk of being step aside by other with higher visibility, it really depends of the staff willing. If the awareness is high, the possibilities of implementation are high, on the other hand if not; you may end up with an incomplete project and a good will only.
