Vokkaligara Sangha which came into existence in 1906, has been rendering public service by establishing various educational

institutions (including professional and technical institutions) for achieving all-round development of the society. Visveswarapura Evening College of Arts & Commerce: Visveswarapura Evening College (along with Visveswarapuram Day College) is considered as the mother of all institutions run by Vokkaligara Sangha. It has been considered as the hope of academically and educationally weaker sections of the society. It has been providing educational opportunities to the rural students employed in Bangalore at affordable cost, who would not have continued their education. Late Sri Veeranna Gowda, a social worker and a prominent person, founded Visveswarapura Evening College of Arts & Commerce in 1966 in Bangalore City with the aim of meeting the educational needs of the employed rural class. Our college was admitted to grant in aid by the Government of Karnataka in 1991. The college has experienced teaching faculty and provides fair educational opportunities to students by way of charging lower fee, good library and other necessary infrastructure. Guidelines for the Students: Dear Students: 1. Our college is a sacred temple of learning. Your foremost duty is to maintain the holiness and cleanliness of the college. 2. High quality education is imparted to all without any discrimination of caste, sex and religion in this college. You can make your life a success by learning here with interest and seriousness. You can contribute for the progress of the nation by developing your own skills and knowledge.

3. You should behave yourself with dignity and decency in the college. No one should cause any disturbance for the classes. 4. Shape your life ideally by cultured, disciplined and measured conduct and words. You are sure to progress that way. Telling lies, stealing, writing on the walls will be seriously viewed. Decency and conduct should become your habits. Rules and Regulations: 1. 2. Students should show respect to the lecturers. Students should attend the classes regularly and listen to the lectures with attention and interest. In case of difficulty to attend the classes, the concerned lecturer should be informed. If you are absent for more number of days, you should obtain permission from the principal. The term days for each semester are of 90 days duration. Each students shall attend all the tests conducted in their respective classes subjectwise. Students should pay the fee as per the circulars issued by the Department of Collegiate Education / Bangalore University. Indiscipline of the students shall be dealt with seriously. Remedial classes for slow learners will be arranged in different subjects. Students are advised to attend such classes. A student shall have a minimum of 75% attendance in every subject in order to appear for examination. Bangalore University will be collecting the Examination Fees at the time of commencement of each semester. However, mere payment of fees does not provide any right to the student to appear for examination without fulfilling the attendance requirement. College is yours. It is your duty to protect its property. Any damage or loss caused by the student shall be dealt with seriously and the student shall have to compensate the loss.

Ragging is an offence under the law. A student involving in ragging shall be punishable under the Ragging Prohibition Laws. A student shall have to give a declaration that he will not indulge in ragging activities.. 10. Use of cell phones and smoking in the college premises is strictly prohibited. For the attention of the parents Your responsibility does not end by admitting your ward to the college. You are expected to visit the college quite often and enquire about your wards progress and conduct. Admission Students are admitted to the college without discrimination of caste, creed or religion. Admissions are made based on the availability of seats and merit. Classes in Kannada Medium is conducted in BA degree classes. Courses offered The following courses are offered in the college: Under Graduate Course: (Semester Scheme) a) Bachelor of Commerce Part I: a) Language I- Kannada/Telugu/Hindi/Sanskrit b) Language II: English Part II: Elective Papers: As per Bangalore University Syllabus b) Bachelor of Arts Part I: a) Language I: Kannada/Telugu/Hindi/Sanskrit b) Language II: English Part II : Elective Papers: History, Economics, Political Science History, Economics Sociology In addition to the above core subjects, each student admitted to BA/B.Com degree course shall also study non-core subjects

such as: Computer Fundamentals, Environmental Studies and Indian Constitution as per the University guidelines. Eligibility A candidate who has passed Karnataka P.U.C or equivalent examination shall be eligible for admission to I Semester B.A/B.Com degree course. Copy of the blank application form can be obtained from the college office during office hours. The college office works between 2 pm to 9 pm on week days and from 5 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays. The application duly filled, should be submitted to the college office along with Xerox copies of the certificates of marks, employment certificate, transfer certificate as per the calendar of events notified by the Bangalore University. Original documents should be submitted at the time of admission. Students from outside state should furnish copy of the migration certificate. . Selection and Registration The provisional list of the candidates selected for degree classes (semester scheme) shall be notified on the notice board. The selected candidates should furnish marks card, transfer certificates, employment certificates and migration certificate in original and pay the required fee along with four pass port size photographs.. They should also record the relevant details in the admission register and sign The admission to this college is provisional and shall become absolute only when the same is approved by the Bangalore University. The fee paid at the time of admission shall not be refunded for any reason.

A student may be refused admission on the grounds of ragging or any other such offenc.. If any student gets scholarship and studentship, his fees shall be returned. Identity Card a) Every student shall be issued a bar coded Identity card which is valid for 3 years. b) Students should always carry the Identity card during his stay in the college and also for the examinations. c) A student shall produce his identity card on demand by the college staff.. d) The identity card should be produced at the time of borrowing books from the library and also for obtaining certificates from the office. e) Students are advised to retain their identity card for a period of three years from the beginning of 1st semester to the end of 6th semester. f) Duplicate Identity card shall be issued on payment of Rs. 50. Issue of Certificates Students should apply in writing for obtaining character certificate, provisional degree certificate, study certificate, etc. The certificates shall be issued to the students within four days of applying. Rs. 25 is the fee for each of such certificate. Those who need transfer certificates should forward their application through the Principal of the College in which they are admitted. Duplicates of the certificates are not issued in the ordinary circumstances.

Students should have cleared all dues for obtaining transfer certificate. They should have obtained no due certificate from the library, accounts, etc. The students should approach the office staff for obtaining any certificate attestation or discussing any problem. Later on through the office they can approach the principal. Students should not approach the principal directly for any reason whatsoever. The available facilities for students 1. Arrangement is made for the students to obtain bus pass. 2. In case of loss of bus pass, a student can get a new bus pass by producing the receipt of the complaint lodged in the nearest police station reporting the loss of bus pass. 3. Cultural programmes: For the purpose of recognizing the hidden talents and providing opportunities, cultural programmes are conducted every year. 4. Sports activities are conducted. 5. Xerox facility is provided to the students. 6. Internet facility is provided to the students. 7. Free access to books through open shelf system in the library. 8. Lift facility is provided.

Regulations relating to admission: 1. The admission application form should be completely filled and submitted to the college before the due date. 2. A student should enclose the following enclosures along with duly filled application form for admission:

a. Transfer certificate issued by the institution last attended


by the candidate.

b. Original marks cards of the qualifying examination. c. Employment certificate. d. Migration certificate (in case of candidates coming from
outside Karnataka)

e. A declaration by the student and his parents that the


student shall not indulge in ragging activities or does not cause any damage to the college property and that he or she shall abide by the rules and regulations of the College/ Government / Bangalore University.

f. A self addressed stamped envelope.


3. A student after his admission to the college should see that his admission details are entered in the online format of the Bangalore University for completing admission process. Students Scholarships and Student Stipend: Various types of scholarships and student stipends are available from the state and central governments. The following scholarships are awarded by various institutions: a) National Merit Scholarship of Govt. of India. b) National Loan Scholarship Government of India.

c) Government of India National Scholarship for the children of primary and middle school teachers. d) Government of India Hindi Scholarship e) Post-matriculation Scholarship for the students from economically backward families. f) Government of India Scholarship for the children of persons serving in Army, Navy and Air force. g) Poverty-cum Progress Scholarship. h) Students Aid Fund. i) Scholarship given to the students of Backward Community. j) Sanskrit scholarships given by the National Sanskrit Samsthan. k) Scholarship for the children of deceased employees of the government while in service. Rules of the library 1) Students should maintain perfect silence in the library. 2) Library and reading room shall be kept open from 3.00 pm to 8.45 pm on all week days and from 5 pm to 8.00 pm on Saturdays. 3) Students should return the books before 8.30 p.m. 4) Issue of books is done from 2.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. on production of bar coded Identity card. 5) A student can avail one book at a time. Final year students can borrow 2 books at a time. 6) Reference books and periodicals are not issued 7) In case of loss of books borrowed, the students shall replace the same by purchasing a new book or by remitting double the cost of the book so lost. 8) Students should examine the condition of the books at the time of borrowing. Damage or loss of pages, if any, in the book should be brought to the notice of the librarian immediately. Otherwise, student shall be held responsible for the damage discovered later.
