Currently teaching Advanced Editing (JRN 453-01), a 4-credit upper-division, intensive core course in multimedia journalism. Began teaching this course in Spring 09; created and oversaw the launch of TheLittleRebellion.com, an online publication that gives students real-world newsroom and Web content development, editing, multimedia and production experience. The publication, a capstone project for students, represents convergence of about 14 classes within the Communication and Media Department and is the Journalism Programs premier showcase of student talent. Successfully initiated collaboration between many Comm & Media instructors and classes to develop content for the site. Initiated use of PBWorks wikis for online collaboration between classes and within the newsroom. Reengineered and currently teaching Multimedia Copy Editing & Layout (JRN 312-01), a 3-credit core course that provides a solid foundation in macro and micro editing, design principles, trends and techniques for print and Web, and training on Adobe InDesign, the publishing industrys standard design platform. Began this course in Fall 2008, developed departments first InDesign curriculum and continue to improve it. Developed coursework that represents a logical sequence between both Multimedia Copy Editing and Advanced Editing classes, ensuring students comprehensive training in AP style, macro and micro editing, and developing, packaging and repurposing content for the Web. Leveraging 20 years experience as reporter and editor to bring real-world examples to the classroom and provide intensive training to make students more marketable in the rapidly-changing journalism field. In Spring 2008, taught Journalism I, a 3-credit core course focusing on news gathering and writing, fundamentals, AP Style and ethics. Incorporated real-world examples from my full-time journalism job; taught reporting, interviewing and writing and editing skills.
