OBSERVATION STAGE

Name of student teacher: ………………………………………………………………

…..

Name of School: Liceo Mixto Brandau de Ross

Number of students: 30 students

Date: May 12th , 2009 Class: 2 Medio B

Task Nº1: The school

Refer to the general background of the school in a clear and brief way.
Describe:

• physical location, Brazil Av. 1901

• organisation,

• student population 578 students

• School rules.

Task Nº2: The classroom

Comment about:

• The atmosphere of the room is very tough since the students and the
teacher are not willing to work as a group so the ladder just work with
the students who are eager to learn something.

• The levels of engagement in the room. It is not a big room and that’s is
problem since not all students are paying attention to the class because
the are chatting or listening to music, they interrupt the class repeatly.

• Students seating. The students sit in rows.

• Space. It’s not a large room but every student has his/her own sit.

• Whiteboard location: In front of the class, next to the teacher’s sit.

• Classroom equipment: Just a whiteboard and an eraser.

Task Nº3: The teacher

Describe the following:

• Classroom routine. The teacher arrives at the classroom ad she waits

until eight to start the class. Then she calls the role to check the
assistance. After that, she starts the class by explaining what they did
last class and she gives some excersises to do until the class finishes.

• Motivation activities performed. Actually there is no motivation activity

because the teacher is motivated to make class in that school.

• Learning activities conducted. The regular method; the teacher explains

the the information and then she gives some excercises to do.

• Material resourced used. The only materials used are the books given by
the school.

• Stages of the lesson.

Task Nº4: The learners

In this observation task, focus on the things that help to create conditions for
effective learning and on the aspects that play a part in preventing
learning.

• How motivated are the learners? Why?

There is a group of about 75 students who are willing to learn, who pay
attention to the class and do every excercise given, however the rest of
the class do nothing but talking or listening to music because they are
not interested and there is no signal of change. The first group create
their own motivation in order to learn and improve their english skills,
actually they do like the class and that is why they pay attention and
participate in the class.

• Are they taking part in their own learning? How?

It is difficult to say that if they participate in their own learning since they
do what the teacher says and when there is no activity they just around
to wait the end of the class. They only work only when the teacher says
so (I am talking about the group that pay attention to the class because
the other group would not do anything even if ther are told to do it.)

• Are they expecting the teacher to do the work for them?

No, Indeed they do all the excercises given and they expect to be
corrected to know their mistakes.

• Do they like to participate in group work? If so, how do they behave?

Actually, In the time I have been attending the class we have not had
any work group, just individual.

• What kinds of learning activities do the students like the most? What do
they like the least?

The learning activities that they like the most are those which they can
show to their classmate they learnt something in the class, for example;
after every exercise they go to the board to write the answer. The
activity that they like the least is when they have to be explained a new
unit.
