DOI/Lesson Outline (Teacher Edition)

Title- Declaration of Independence/ Note Taking/Skype Learning Outcomes: 1. Students will improve note taking skills by researching effective tips for note taking. 2. Students work in groups to create a class how-to/tips Wiki Page on note taking skills. 3. Students will effectively use note taking skills while Skyping with several outside experts on the American Revolution, specifically concentrating on the Declaration of Independence. 4. Students will collaborate with peers to create a Wiki Page and another group website concentrating on the Declaration of Independence. Standards: Common Core Georgia Performance Standard
SS4H4 The student will explain the causes, events, and results of the American Revolution. b. Explain the writing of the Declaration of Independence; include who wrote it, how it was written, why it was necessary, and how it was a response to tyranny and the abuse of power.

Guided Questions Why is note taking an important skill to learn? In your opinion what are the best tips for note taking? Why was the Declaration of Independence written? Why did colonists feel this document was important? Lesson Layout Students will review the list.ly curation: reviewing articles and videos on improving note taking skills, creating wiki pages, and website builders. Students will create a class Wiki Page on tips for note taking including reviews on apps used for note taking. Students will create a list of questions and/or topics to ask while Skyping with outside experts. Students will implement note taking strategies when Skyping with outside experts on the American Revolution, specifically the Declaration of Independence. Groups will create a website devoted to the Declaration of Independence. Components of the website will include who wrote it, how it was written, why it was necessary, and how it was a response to tyranny and the abuse of power.
