FROM OUR DIVISIONAL LEADERS

Dear Pendel Family, We are delighted to welcome you to the Pendel Divisions Family Camp 2012! Our guests are Spirit-filled dynamic servants of God who will lead us in studying Gods Word as we worship Him together. Most of us dont think much about covenants. We sing Standing on the promises of God and we all love to see a rainbow which was a visible sign of Gods promise. The world tells us promises are made to be broken. But God wants to have a relationship with you based on His covenant love and grace, not on any promises the world offers. His promise is an everlasting covenant for everyone and He offers you eternal life! Our prayer for you this weekend is that the Holy Spirit will minister to your soul, that you will experience the joy of Christ living in you and that you will receive His promises for your life. In His Name,

Don and Rene Lance, Lt. Colonels

Gaither

Commissioners Israel L. & Eva D.

Commissioners Gaither retired as active Salvation Army Officers, November 1, 2010. Commissioner Israel Gaither, born and raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania grew up under the influence of godly parents. The eldest of five children, he describes his childhood as rooted in the Word of God. The Commissioner first met The Salvation Army as a teenager following the forging of a friendship with a boy, who with his family, moved into the neighborhood. That friendship resulted in his attending Salvation Army youth activities. Commissioner Eva Gaither claims Sidney, Ohio as her hometown. She too was nurtured in a home with deep faith. The Commissioner, unlike her husband, was born into the Army as a fifth generation Salvationist. During the time of their active service the Commissioners were privileged to address thousands of Salvationists, and Christians of other denominations, worldwide. In retirement, they continue to undertake invitations to serve as guests for various Army events and other ministry opportunities. Israel and Eva were ordained and commissioned as Officers from the Armys School for Officer Training in June, 1964 in New York City. They each have served more than 47 years as Salvation Army Officers, which has included senior leadership positions at both the USA

National Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia and International Headquarters, London, United Kingdom where Commissioner Israel served as the first African-American Chief of the Staff since the founding of the Army in 1865. He is also the first African-American to serve as the USA National Commander. Among her key senior executive leadership appointments, Commissioner Eva also served the international position of World Secretary for Womens Ministries. The Gaithers were married July, 1967 during the midst of Americas turbulent civil rights era. They are the Armys first interracial marriage officer couple to serve in America. The Commissioners have also served as the Territorial Leaders for both the Southern Africa and USA Eastern territories. But their first love has always been corps ministry having served (each) as single officers-in-charge prior to corps commanding officer appointments as a married couple. They are proud of their two adult children, Michele Gaither Sparks of Wilmore, Kentucky and Mark Gaither of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Commissioners Gaither now enjoy renewed life in retirement in the beautiful city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, pursuing many opportunities to serve God and the Army while also preserving time to spoil their four grandchildren Isaiah (Sparks); Matthew, Virginia and Andrew (Gaither).

majors Jos & Hilda

Santiago
Majors Jos and Hilda Santiago came to know their Lord in 1975 at the Guayama Corps in Puerto Rico. The Santiagos began working with The Salvation Army, Arecibo, Puerto Rico Corps, in 1979. Their service eventually carried them to York, Pennsylvania as Sergeants in charge of the Hispanic work and in 1984, they were privileged to open a childrens home on Santa Cruz Island. Upon hearing the call of God to serve as Officers in The Salvation Army, Jos and Hilda attended the School for Officers Training and were ordained and commissioned in 1987. Upon Commissioning they served as Corps Officers in Bayamon, Puerto Rico for 5 years, then in San Juan and Elizabeth, New Jersey as well. After years of faithful Corps ministry, they received staff appointments to New Jersey Divisional Headquarters as Divisional Secretary and Divisional Secretary for Womens Ministries respectively. In 2009, they were challenged to travel to the Latin America North Territory where they served as the Divisional Commander and the Director of Womens Ministries. Currently they are appointed to the Pastoral Care Department at Territorial Headquarters. Majors Santiago have been spiritually blessed in their service to the Lord. They thank God and the leaders of The Salvation Army for entrusting them with exciting and varied ministry opportunities throughout their lives.

Doctrines of The Salvation Army

1. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice. 2. We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship. 3. We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory. 4. We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man. 5. We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God. 6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved. 7. We believe that repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation. 8. We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself. 9. We believe that continuance in the state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ. 10. We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 11. We believe in the immortality of the soul, the resurrection of the body, in the general judgement at the end of the world, in the eternal happiness of the righteous, and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

Articles of Marriage
We do solemnly declare that, although we enter into this marriage for reasons of personal happiness and fulfillment, we will do our utmost to ensure that our married status and relationship will deepen our commitment to God and enhance the effectiveness of our service as soldiers of Jesus Christ in The Salvation Army. We promise to make our home a place where all shall be aware of the abiding presence of God, and where those under our influence shall be taught the truths of the gospel, encouraged to seek Christ as Saviour, and supported in the commitment of their lives to the service of God. We declare our intention to be to each other, by the help of God, true Christian examples and, throughtimes of joy, difficulty or loss, to encourage each other to grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Promise
Will you take ____________ to be your wife/ husband, to live according to Gods ordinance in holy matrimony? Will you love her/him, comfort, honour and sustain her/him, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her/him as long as you both shall live?

Declaration
I call upon these persons here present To witness that I ____________ Do take thee _______________ To be my lawful wedded wife/husband, To have and to hold From this day forward, For better for worse, For richer for poorer, In sickness and in health, To love and to cherish, Till death us do part, According to Gods holy ordinance; And this I declare upon my honour As a true soldier of Jesus Christ.

A Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt; Put me to doing, put me to suffering; Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, Exalted for thee or brought low for thee; Let me be full, let me be empty; Let me have all things, let me have nothing; I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
