Q3.) In a gas welding burner oxygen and acetylene are mixed adiabatically. The velocity of oxygen stream is 50 m/s and the pressure of oxygen container is 3.5 bar. The velocity of acetylene stream is 10 m/s and the pressure of container is 2bar. The inlet temperatures are 15 0C and 23 0C for oxygen and acetylene respectively. The outlet velocity and pressure of the mixed stream are 10 m/s and 1.0 bar respectively. The composition ratio in the mixed stream is mO2 mC2 H 2 = 1.6 Both gases are assumed to be perfect gases. The changes in the potential and the kinetic energy can be neglected. 1) Determine the temperature of the mixed stream. 2) How much is the partial pressure of each gas in the mixed stream. 3) How much is the entropy produced per kilogram of the mixed stream.

Q4.) The container A contains has a volume Va = 8 liter and contains air at a pressure of 7 bar. This container is joined with another container B of volume Vb = 2 liter containing argon at a pressure of 1.4 bar. The molar mass of the air and argon are given below: Determine: 1) The partial pressure of the gases after mixing. 2) The mass fraction of the gases after mixing. Both gases are assumed to be ideal gases. The value of specific gas constant for both the gases can be obtained from the universal gas constant.

Q1.) A stream of hydrogen at a temperature of 400K, pressure 1 bar and mass flow rate of 2 mol/s mixes with oxygen stream at a temperature of 300K, pressure 1 bar and mass flow rate of 1 mol/s in a adiabatic mixing chamber. The outlet stream from the mixing chamber has a pressure of 1bar. 1) How much is the temperature of the mixed stream? (TM = 367K) 2) How much is the partial pressure of oxygen and hydrogen in the mixed stream? ( pO2 = 0.33 bar , pN2 = 0.67 bar)

3) How much is the entropy produced per second due to mixing process? ( S erz = 16.7 W/K ) Both the gases can be assumed as perfect gases. The change in kinetic and potential energy can be neglected.

Q2.) In a steady state process a stream of helium (He) at 400K and mass flow rate 2 g/s mixes adiabatically with a stream of nitrogen (N2) at 300K and mass flow rate 1g/s. The pressure of the mixed stream at the outlet, after its adiabatic expansion in a turbine, is 1.0 bar. The pressure of the individual streams and stream obtained after mixing (mixed stream) is 3bar. 1) Determine the temperature and the partial pressures of the mixed stream. (T2 = 391.34 K , p2,N2 = 0.2 bar, p2,He = 2.8 bar) 2) Determine the power output of the turbine.

(T3 = 255.54 K , W = -1.58 kW ) Given that the expansion process is not reversible and the total amount of the entropy produced is 1.5 W/K. 3) For the following assumptions determine the power output of the turbine. ( S mixing = 1.136 J/Ks , Sturbine = 0.364 J/Ks , T3 = 263.7 , W = -1.48 kW) Both gases are assumed to be perfect gases. The change in kinetic and the potential energy can be neglected.
