For the fall semester of 2012, 20 students accepted their bids. Under Hegemon Kevin Mills guidance, 16 of those students were successfully initiated into the brotherhood. Many of the new initiates are already involved in fraternity activities, holding chairs and participating in committees.

Rush Cont. For the semester of Fall 2012, the brothers of the Beta Beta chapter experienced a very successful recruitment period in which we recruited 20 potential candidates for membership. The brothers exhibited exceptional amounts of team work and leadership as we put aside our differences and worked hard during Rush to make sure our chapter continued to succeed. engaged members Brothers in recruiting Rush before actively new even dorms with their parents which having a pool party at the Retreat, a Carolina game, Mudcats grilling

Brotherhood Events
Beach Weekend at Myrtle Beach, SC The brothers brought dates to Myrtle Beach, SC for a weekend in which we all stayed in the same hotel on the oceanfront. Brothers and their dates went swimming in the pool and the ocean, walked downtown, and ate together as everyone who went enjoyed themselves. Apollo Ball The brothers had Apollo Ball with our alumni, which is a large gathering for dinner and a chance to catch alumni up with current fraternal affairs. This was a great opportunity to catch up with alumni who still would like to stay-up-to-date with the chapter and to provide their insight/advice on anything. Christmas Day Function -- The brothers rented out Spybar in downtown Raleigh and had a date function that had the theme of wearing a tacky Christmas sweater. Valentines Day -- Just like Christmas, the brothers rented out Spybar in downtown Raleigh and had a date function for this. It was a lot of fun for both brothers and their dates as it was a very good turnout for the brotherhood.

Weekend at Boone, NC The brothers rented multiple cabins in Boone, North Carolina for the weekend in the middle of March. This was a date function so both brothers and their Mountain dates had a great time. Triangle Beach Musical Festival -- At the end of April, the brothers will be attending Triangle Beach Musical Festival in Garner, NC. This is an all-day concert with beach music and will be a great opportunity for our brothers to have fun together. Parents Day For Parents Day this year, the chapter will be going to Carolina Park with their families for a meal and for spending quality time with the folks!

Top GPAs
Being a TEKE is about more than just creating a brotherhood and having fun. We strive to be better men, which includes excelling in all areas, especially school. Achieving good grades not only makes us stand out in our University life, it also makes us stand out to potential employers when applying to summer internships, co-ops, and more. In this past semester we had many fraters excel greatly academically and they are as follows: Michael Scipione (#1029): 4.0 Stephen Peskowitz (#1047): 3.6 Kyle Burke (#1057): 3.5

Alumni

As an alumnus, it is important to stay connected with active brothers and other fellow alumni. Various events throughout the year help undergraduates and alumni alike stay connected, or reconnect from past days. Some alumni have shared what they have been doing recently: "Brad Brooks will earn his Master of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School March 2013. He and his wife, MaryAnn, will be stationed in Sicily, Italy until April 2016." (Fall '97 #851) Tim Parry had a relocation and job change. He lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho now and works for BASF - The Chemical Company. His position is Crop Protection Business Rep and covers the Eastern Idaho and Utah territory.

TKE on Break
Many of the brothers had the privilege of going overseas during break. Others chose to vacation stateside. All brothers represented Dixie Alpha well while away from Raleigh. Here is where some of the brothers went for Christmas and Spring break. Colton Roberts: Spain Brian Buscemi: Belize Brendon Lynch, James Parker, LJ Watts, Jasper Bledsoe, and Bryan Thomason: Galveston, Texas Daniel Ellison and Michael Scipione: Final Four, Atlanta, Georgia

New Alumni

Two of our undergrad brothers are soon to be alumni of this chapter. This past fall semester, Alex Averell, BB1039, graduated with a degree in Psychology. Ever since he became a brother of this chapter with the Greenleaf Hooligans in the spring of 2011, hes served as Grammateus, been on the social committee and held the fish and games chair. This spring, James M. Watts Jr., BB1014, better known as LJ, will be graduating. He will leave NC State with a degree in Chemical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration. LJ is currently the oldest active member of the undergrad chapter, being with us since the spring of 2009. He has served as our Prytanis, Crysophylos, Grammateus, and Histor during his time here.

Meet the Sweetheart

One of the many perks of being a man of sterling character and staunch uprightness is the acquired company of lovely young ladies. This past semester, many of these bombshells campaigned for the honored title of TKE Sweetheart. Through the tireless efforts of baking treats for the brothers and keeping excellent company in conversation, the blue eyed beauty Sara SK Powell from Jamestown NC rose to the top as the clear winner of this difficult and toilsome competition. A senior graduating with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Business Administration proves that this multifaceted southern Belle is more than just a pretty face; in fact, SK has just been accepted into the Masters program of Global Luxury Management at our very own North Carolina State University. This 22 year young Wolfpacker is currently dating the highly esteemed brother David Dyer, with whom she has been an item with for over a year. Some of Saras favorite things outside of the classroom include cold drinks, warm weather, and close friends on a North Carolina evening. The brothers of the Beta Beta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon are proud to call this intriguing young woman our sweetheart, and wish her luck on her road to graduate school.

Chapter Accomplishments
Over the last school year, our chapter has had numerous notable accomplishments including: Our recent graduate, Alex Averell, received notice that he would be receiving a merit based scholarship toward UNCG's Graduate Program. We recently sent 8 fraters down to Atlanta to participate in Regional Leadership Conference. Our fall semester pledge class started with 20 members and finished with the initiation of 16 fraters. Our IM soccer team did exceptionally well in the semester finishing Several fraters are participating in numerous philanthropy events on campus, including DG's Anchor Splash coming up in late April, ZTA's spaghetti dinner, and KD's Shamrock Shag. Later on this semester, we will be hosting a fundraising event at a local sandwich shop that will benefit TKE and St. Jude's. 2nd place in IM Volleyball IM racquet champs

Alumni of the Year

Congratulations to Frater Pat Hansbury for being selected by the brotherhood as the Alumni of the Year. He was selected for his dedication and enthusiasm to the chapter and for displaying the ideals of love, charity, and esteem in everyday life. Pat will be presented with his award next fall which includes his choice of a meal catered by the brotherhood or gift card to his favorite restaurant.

Chapter Advisors
There are two chapter advisors. Sean Nickelsen is the Director of group sales and marketing for the Carolina Mudcats. He oversees corporate and group outings at the stadium as well as monitors their promotions and community relations efforts. Dhanaraj Shunmugam is a Senior Follow-up Inspector and Administrator for MET Labs. He makes sure that safe MET certified products are made at manufacturing sites around the world.

Letter from the Prytanis

Since our last issue of the Beta-Squared, the brothers of the Beta-Beta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilons efforts of progression have been tireless and teeming with determination to improve every aspect of our fraternal affairs. Over the past few months our chapter has been represented at a wide array of events, including: the southeastern installment of the Regional Leadership Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia by TKE Nationals; and various philanthropic events hosted by NC States sororities. The annual southeastern installment of the Regional Leadership Conference found the Beta-Beta Chapter represented by eight brothers who departed for Atlanta, Georgia on February 15th. These eight spent two days and two nights in the 1996 Olympics city attending an assortment of workshops that provided much knowledge with which they were able to return to Raleigh and share with the chapter; as well as fraternizing and networking with hundreds of other TKEs in the meantime. Beta-Beta also plans to send multiple representatives to our national Conclave (held only bi-annually), taking place on August 8-11 in our nations capital, Washington, D.C., this coming summer. Aside from our national improvements, Beta-Beta has also taken strides in the NC State community. Over half of the chapter is active in at least one, and often several, organizations separate from TKE. Studies show that the more active a student is on campus, the better he or she performs in the classroom. These results certainly correlate with our chapter since the average brothers GPA is on the rise for the fourth straight semester. The chapters Philanthropy Committee is also in the works of organizing a campus-wide event to raise money for St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, our national philanthropy. The details will surely be provided for everyone when final dates are reached for this event, as well as other smaller ones that are in progress. In addition to planning our own events, Beta-Beta participated in many other events hosted by the campuss sororities. One such event was Kappa Deltas Shamrock n Shag. This event was hosted at the Kappa Delta house where dancing, delicious food, and overall merriment were enjoyed by attendees all while raising money for Prevent Child Abuse America and SAFEchild of Raleigh. Two brothers also placed as quarterfinalists in Sigma Kappas tennis tournament which raised money for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. The chapter also has plans to participate in multiple upcoming philanthropic events to simultaneously continue donating money to charities and promoting our organization with large presence at every event. Having such a significant presence at these events does not come easily, though. It takes months of groundwork and perseverance all in preparation for our fraternity rush. This past November, we were fortunate enough to proudly initiate sixteen new brothers into the fraternitys bond; all of whom have shown a great deal of pride and motivation in their roles as brothers. We are expecting an excellent rush this coming fall semester as well and look forward to sharing with many more new gentlemen the wonderful benefits of becoming a Brother in the Bond of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Fraternally, Ryan Bannister (#1030)

Words from the Histor

As the past assistant Histor, under the direction of LJ Watts, I had a great time getting to know many of the alumni young and old. I wanted to keep the alumni updated and involved by giving them a larger stake in the chapters affairs thereby helping to boaster their connection to the undergraduate brothers. A positive and strong connection with the alumni can make a good chapter great and a great chapter amazing. Alumni provide valuable insight to what the undergrads can do to succeed and how to avoid making mistakes that were made in the past. Without this connection, a chapter is set up to fail.

Our scroll is currently at 1074 names and we are rapidly growing. With that strong of an alumni base, it can be difficult as Histor to make sure everyone is informed about chapter affairs and events. To combat this, I have set a few goals for myself during my term as Histor: I will keep in better contact with the alumni fraters, which includes producing the Beta Squared at least once a semester. I will attempt to increase alumni participation by creating fun family friendly events, as well as creating events designed to be a night out on the town. Finally, I want to help give the alumni that sense of pride in a chapter that they helped to build. By showing them our positive impact both on campus and in the community along with our scholastic achievements as a chapter, I believe that many of our esteemed alumni will remember their experience in TKE and be driven to participate in this great chapter.

I would like to challenge you as alumni and as my fraters, to stay informed of important events both in the chapter and in the lives of fellow fraters. Please help me and Todd Holmes, the chairman of the board, keep in contact with you by going to ncsutke.org under the alumni tab to register to receive basic information regarding the chapter.

In closing, our chapter is nothing without the support of our alumni. You are what make us better as a chapter. Your generosity and dedication will help raise us to new heights once again becoming a powerhouse on the NC State campus. Dare yourself as an alumni to become more involved in Beta-Beta, by keeping informed, joining our Alumni association, or the Board. Please continue to keep in touch with the undergrads and showing up to events such as tailgates to assure your presence is felt in this brotherhood.

To keep involved, email me at dtelliso@ncsu.edu or Todd at toddholmes@johnston.k12.nc.us.
