DONGLE USAGE AND INSTALLATION

NOTE: The dongle does not work on a computer with a 64bit system. Visual Learning Systems provides the ability to run the software with a Macrovi- sion FLEXidT hardware dongle. A dongle, also referred to as a serialized hard- ware key or hardware token, is a small hardware device that plugs into a USB slot on your computer to authenticate the software. A dongle is used to limit software access to whomever has the dongle attached to their system via the associated license file. The software will run only when the dongle is plugged in. VLS Dongle usage is based on a stand-alone type license. This usage enables flex- ibility for accessing the software from more than one computer. You can move the license at any time by installing the dongle drivers on another computer and mov- ing the USB dongle to the new computer. This license allows the VLS applica- tions to be installed on any number of computers, but limits concurrent usage to the number of license dongles purchased. Every dongle has a unique identification number. The number is printed both on the dongle and on the anti-static bag the dongle comes packaged in.

NOTE: One FLEXid dongle can authenti- cate two or more VLS products.

The ID on your FLEXid dongle begins with FLEXID=9-. Your VLS product license is locked to your FLEXid dongle. IMPORTANT: If your dongle is damaged, you can return it to VLS for replacement. However, VLS does not replace lost dongles. Prerequisites NOTE: You must install the dongle device driv- ers before you can authorize your VLS soft- ware License. Dongle Device Drivers To set up your license and run the Visual Learning System software with the don- gle you need to first install the system device drivers to enable the software and hardware to work together. The dongle device drivers are provided on the Visual Learning System Product CD in the FLEXid Dongle Installer folder. The drivers must be installed on your computer for the licensing to work. The two required drivers are the: Hasp HL

FLEXid-9

You will need to install the dongle device drivers on each computer you will use the dongle.

Administrative Permission Confirm you have Administrative Privileges on the computer on which you will be installing the drivers. If you do not have Administrative Privileges, contact your System Administrator to install the drivers for you or request that you have read/write permissions for the installation directory. Uninstall Other FLEXid Drivers Under certain circumstances you may need to remove other version FLEXid driv- ers. Use the FLEXid Cleanup Utility provided in the FLEXid Dongle Installer folder to remove an older installation of the FLEXid drivers. Remove Other Dongles Remove all dongles attached to your computer and close all open applications. Installation Plug in the Dongle Plug the FLEXid dongle into an available USB port on your computer. A Found New Hardware system message may display. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP, a system Hardware Installation message may display indicating that the Aladdin USB Key software is not verified. If you choose Continue Anyway, the software associated with the dongle installs and a system message displays, indicating that the new hardware is installed and ready to use. You are now ready to install the two drivers necessary for using the dongle. NOTE: Before starting the driver install pro- cess, close any programs that access the HASP HL Diver. If the drivers and dongle are working properly, the VLS Host ID appears, followed by your dongle identification number, in the VLS Host ID display. The correct operation of the USB dongle results in a Host ID that ends with FLEXID=9- followed by eight alphanumeric characters. The eight characters correspond to the Host ID recorded on the side of the dongle and on the anti- static packet that the USB dongle came in. The Host ID also appears in the license files provided to you on the Visual Learning System Product CD.
