Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Common Admission Test (CAT)

The Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs), is the entrance examination for admission into the 2-Year Post Graduation Program in Management for 13 IIMs and 158 non-IIM BSchools/MBA Colleges across India. Common Admission Test (CAT) is generally conducted between October and November every year for about 20-25 days with two slots per day ELIGIBILITY The candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) categories.] Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelors degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply TEST STRUCTURE CAT is a multiple-choice exam that tests Managerial and Decision-making abilities in the areas of Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension. The test is traditionally divided into three sections - Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI) and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (V&RC). Is there any limit on the number of appearances? No, there is no restriction on the number of appearance for CAT. Is there any age limit for taking CAT? No, there is no age limit to appear for the CAT exam. How to apply for CAT? The CAT notification is generally released in the last week of August every year in all the leading newspapers of the country and is simultaneously released on the CAT official website. Candidates who wish to appear for the exam have to buy a voucher from a designated bank branch located in important cities and register at the CAT official website by using the voucher number printed on the scratch-off area of the voucher. Candidates need to enter required information Personal/Academic/Work Experience, if any, details. Can I choose my test date, venue and timing? Yes, the candidate can choose his/her Test venue, date and time slot as per the availability at the time of registration and can modify them from time to time before the scheduled test registration closes. Is there any reservation for SC, ST, OBC and PWD or DA? As per the Government of India requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. In addition, 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates belonging to the non-creamy layer. 3% seats are reserved for Persons with Disability (PWD or DA). The three categories of disability are: a) low-vision/blindness, b) hearing impairment, and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy.

Is there any reservation for Women? No, there is no reservation for women. How long is CAT Scorecard Valid? CAT Score is Valid for one year. What is the meaning of the percentile in the CAT scorecard? Percentile in the CAT scorecard indicates a candidates relative performance with respect to that of the total candidates who have taken CAT. For example, if a candidate scores 95 percentile, it means that 95% of the test takers scored less than the candidate. Are there sectional cut-offs for all the IIMs? Yes, There are sectional cut-offs for all the IIMs. The cut-offs may vary across the IIMs and are different for different categories (GEN, OBC, SC, ST, DA). I do not have good academic score, can I still clear the cut-offs? Past academic score/record has less weight age compare to CAT Score and definitely not an indicator of future performances in entrance tests. A good performance in the Admission Test, Group discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) and Writing ability can certainly nullify any disadvantage of the academic performance.
