HOSE ASSEMBLY
INTRODUCTION Couplings are used to connect individual lengths of fire hose together. Couplings are also used to connect a hose line to a hydrant; to an intake or discharge valve on a engine; or to a variety of nozzles, fittings, and appliances. A coupling is permanently attached to each end of a section of fire hose. TYPE OF COUPLING Connectivity between the hose with a hose or other equipment for drain off the water requires a special tool called coupling. It is installed on end of the hose to allow connection made to the equipment required. There are many types of coupling as follows: a. Delivery Hose Coupling. Divided into: (1) (2) (3) Standard Instantaneous Coupling (Figure 4). Surelock or Bayonet Coupling (Figure 5). Haemophrodite Coupling (Figure 6).

b. Hosereel Coupling. Type used is the type of Screw and Hermophrodite (See Figure 7).

Figure 7 : Hosereel Coupling c. Screw Type Coupling. used in the fire service are: (1) (2) Has two types of thread that is often

'V `Thread. (See Figure 8). Round Thread. (See Figure 9).

(1) Coupling. Typically, suction hose equipped with male and female coupling diameter measuring between 100 or 140 mm and equipped with a 'round thread. (See Figure 10).

(2) Suction Wrenches. There are two types of wrenches used by the fire, the 'Conventional Type' and 'Universal Type' (See Figure 11 and 12).

Is a tool to divide the host channel from a channel to be 2 channel or vice versa. This tool is made from alloy or brass. There are two types of breeching, namely: a. Dividing Breeching. It is divided into two types, namely type has control and without control. Having a male inlet valve of the type coupling and 2 valve out of the female type coupling (See Figure 13). it can make a channel into two channels.

Adaptor Coupling is used to connect different types and sizes. It found in two types, namely: a. To connect the male or female of the same type of coupling: (1) (2) Male to female type of round thread, V thread or instantaneous. Male to female type of round thread, V thread or instantaneous.

b.

Adaptor Coupling to menyambong two different types, namely: (1) Male to female thread to connect the round instantaneous.

(2) Male to female thread to connect the round surelock or V thread to instantaneous. (3) Male to female connect between 'round thread' to V thread.

Figure 15 : Adaptor Hose Ramp This tool is used to be a barrier to the hose of the range across road so as not to break when struck by a vehicle and works against fire fighting (See Figure 16). Tools are available in three types, namely: a. b. c. Metal Ramp. Wooden Ramp. Rubber Ramp.

Collecting Head It is intended to channel water from fire hydrant to the pump via the suction eye '. It is made of copper or alloy and have two or three channels measuring 64 mm and 101.6 mm (4 inches) from the type of round thread. It is equipped with 'standard male instantaneous delivery hose coupling. Comes out of the dam valve with the standard type screw female suction hose Coupling '. Each valve is equipped with 'non-return valve. (See Figure 18).

Figure 18 : Collecting Head Suction Strainer To prevent entry of debris into the pump when the suck water from the natural supply. It is divided into two types, ie. a. Metal strainer. The instrument is made of metal and fitted the suction hose. (See Figure 19) b. Basket Strainer. It is used on the exterior of the metal strainer prevent mud, mud or debris from entering the pump. Usually these tools are made of rattan (See Figure 20).

CONCLUSION With this knowledge let the members of a hose by means of right and good care. Besides, also a firefighter know how to use the appropriate host installation time versus and fire-fighting.
