Do not suddenly stop the engine when operating at high speeds. Gradually return the throttle trigger, and idle the engine before setting the switch (Fig. 13-3) to STOP (in the direction shown in Fig. 13-5 ).

WARNING
Do not operate the engine at high speeds with no load on the cutting attachment, especially when the engine is new. When operated at high speeds with no load, the speed will accelerate to an excessively high that might harm the engine.

8-6

When the engine does not start:

If the engine does not start or flames flow back through the muffler even though you have pulled the starter many times, remove and check the spark plugs. 1.If the spark plugs are dry, no fuel has been fed into the cylinder . Check the fuel pipe and carburetor. 2.Clean or replace the spark plugs if they are wet or dirty. 3.If fuel has overflowed into the crank case, remove the spark plugs, open throttle , and pull the starter 2 or 3 times to remove excess fuel from the crank case. 10

9 TRIMMING
WARNING
1. Before starting trimming, check that all the safety devices are provided, the nylon cutting head is fixed securely , the Allen wrench 4mm has been removed, and the nylon cord length is suitable. When using the trimmer, be sure to wear goggles, hearing protection, and gloves.

2.

9-1

Using the trimmer and notes to the operator

1. Move the nylon-cutting head from left Fig. 14 to right. If you cut grass with the left side of the head, the head might throw some object at you, posing a hazard. Never use the left side of a nylon-cutting head to cut grass(Fig. 14). 2. Slant the nylon-cutting head downward toward the cutting side. Take care not to drag the head on the ground.

WARNING
The trimmer is designed to cut weeds, grass, and similar soft vegetation. Never use the trimmer for any other applications.

11

10
10-1

MAINTENANCE
Cleaning air cleaner

An air cleaner on the engine prevents foreign matter such as dust from entering the engine. If the cleaner is clogged, the fuel will be thicker, lowering output and causing the engine to stop. Wash the air cleaner as required. Replace the cleaner when it becomes dirty. Fig. 15 1.Detach the cleaner mounting screws and remove the cleaner cover. 2.Remove the elements(Fig. 15-1). 3.Follow the same procedure as in step (1)-2 - 3.

10-2

Lubricating the gear housing with grease

Fig. 16

The gear housing has a greasing port (Fig. 16-1) . Remove the greasing ports screw and feed grease into the port. When supplying angle transmission grease, pull off spline sleeve A to push out old grease. For grease , use lithium type grease No.2 or equivalent. Grease the port after 20 hours of operation after the initial greasing operation. then grease after every 100 hours of operation.

10-3

Checking gear housing mounting screws

Loose gear housing fixing screws (Fig. 16-2) are very dangerous even though they have covers to prevent them from coming off. Be sure to check them before operating the trimmer. Tighten the screws securely with the Allen wrench provided with the trimmer.

12

10-4

Spark plug

The spark plugs have a standard Fig. 17 electrode-to-electrode distance of 0.6 to 0.7 mm (Fig. 17). The spark plug electrodes are dry and brown under optimum operating conditions. Clean as necessary. Use spark plugs designated for the engine. SK4891PRO : NGK BMR-6A

10-5

Fuel strainer cleaning

The fuel hose has a felt strainer at its end (in Fig. 18 the fuel tank) to prevent foreign matter such as sand from entering the carburetor. Clean the strainer as required because the pump cannot suck up fuel if the strainer is clogged, which would cause the engine to stop. Replace the felt strainer if it is clogged or damaged.

10-6

Adjusting throttle cable

Fig. 19

Adjust the throttle cable length with the adjusting nut (Fig. 19-1) . If the Nylon cutting head rotates even after you have released your hand from the throttle trigger to idle the engine , adjust the throttle cable length. Loosen the lock nut (Fig. 19-2) and turn the adjusting nut to adjust the cable length. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise to lengthen the throttle and counterclockwise to shorten it. Tighten the lock nut after adjustment.

10-7

Adjusting half throttle

The trimmer has a built-in throttle-locking mechanism to keep the throttle at half throttle for easy engine start up. Adjust the half-throttle by changing the throttle length with the adjusting nut.

13

10-8

Carburetor

WARNING
The engine has been adjusted before shipment. In the case of engine trouble, contact you're nearby distributor because the engine trouble is not caused by a faulty carburetor only. An engine that is not adjusted properly will damage not only the carburetor but also the engine it self. Do not adjust the carburetor unless you are familiar with it. (1) Adjusting idling Adjusting the nylon cutting head idling speed to about 3,000 r.p.m. by turning the idling adjusting screw. (2) Adjusting High-Speed The standard opening degree at high speed of the high-speed screw(Fig.27-2) is 1+1/2 return (returned by 1+1/2 after closing it fully). The high-speed adjusting screw is for adjusting fuel from the intermediate to the high-speed range (clockwise for thinning and counterclockwise for thickening). Fig. 20

CAUTION
Adjust the carburetor slowly while checking engine operation. If you turn the adjusting screw quickly, you may be unable to find the optimum position if you are still unfamiliar with the carburetor.

10-9

Cleaning muffler

Clean the muffler carbon after 50 hours of operation as follows: 1. Remove the muffler guard and muffler. 2. To prevent carbon from enter the cylinder , pull the starter to turn the crankshaft, blocking the exhaust opening with the piston. 3. Scrape carbon from the cylinder exhaust opening with wood, taking care not to damage the surface. 4. Screw the muffler and muffler guard together securely. 5. Be sure to ask your dealer for cleaning the muffler periodically.

14

10-10 Storing
When shutting down your trimmer for a long time, store it properly as shown below, so that it will operate normally when you need it. The trimmer may start smoothly if stored improperly.

CAUTION(before storing)
Use up the fuel as much as much as possible before storing. 1. Remove fuel from the fuel tank completely. 2. To use up the fuel in the carburetor , idle the engine until it stops due to lack of gasoline. 3. Check and clean every component. 4. Apply rust inhibitor to the internal surface of the cylinder and bearings. Remove the ignition plugs, and inject a small amount of 2-cycle engine oil into the carburetor. Pull the starter several times and then mount the ignition plugs. 5. Pull the starter until you feel some compression. Store the trimmer in a dry, clean room. Moisture interferes with ignition.

WARNING
Mixed fuel will degenerate if stored for a long period. Never keep degenerated mixed fuel in the engine for a long period and never degenerated fuel because it adversely affects the engine to a significant degree.
