Case Study 1: Bhutan and Gross National Happiness The Millennium Development Goals I would like to see in South

Africa based on Gross National Happiness Listed from lowest to highest priority. 1. Goal 3: Promote General Equality and empower women as a whole a. This should be included in Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education I. Reason behind my judgement What you learn as a child stays with you through life, since children learn fast than adult. *Known fact- Children have more neurons actively than adults. So by
repeating things to a child in earlier development will increase their overall understanding and acceptance.

2. Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education I. Target 3: Ensure all children complete a full coarse of education II. Target 7: halt or reverse the spread of HIV/Aids III. Goal 3 AKA Target 19. Please refer back to Number 1. 3. Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development I. Target 12: fair and stable Financial system II. Target 15: Teaching people how to effectively budget debt long term III. Target 16: Focus world-wide to create productive jobs for planet Earths youth IV. Target 18: Making the benefits of new technology available The following above in Global Development should only take place once the basics of a country are seen to. 4. Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality I. Target 5: Reduce child mortality Facts (World Health Organisation) a. 6.9 million Children under the age of five died in 2011. b. More than half of these early child deaths are due to conditions that could be prevented or treated with access to simple, affordable interventions. c. Leading causes of death in under-five children are pneumonia, preterm birth complications, diarrhoea, birth asphyxia and malaria. About one third of all child deaths are linked to malnutrition. d. Children in sub-Saharan Africa are about 16.5 times more likely to die before the age of five than children in developed regions.

Goal 4 would then fall under Goal 7 and 1

5. Goal 5: Improving maternal Health I. Target 6: Reduce maternal mortality Fact (UNICEF) a. Every year, 4,300 mothers die due to complications of pregnancy.

Goal 5 would then fall under Goal 1 and 7

6. Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other diseases I. Target 8: Reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases II. Target 17: Provide access to affordable, essential drugs in developing countries. 7. Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and hunger I. Target 1: halve the proportion of people whose income is less than USD 1 a day. 8. Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability I. Target 2: Halve the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. II. Target 10: Safe drinking water. We all must remember the human body is made out of 60% water. Our brain and heart alone use 73%. An adult needs about 2.5liters per a day estimated. Cleaner water means cleaner bodies internally and/or externally. *Also affecting the overall health of mankind. III. Target 9: Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes to reverse the loss of environmental resources IV. If we do not protect what has been given to us by nature the human race will become extinct. A few examples: If we have not trees, we have no oxygen. If the ground is over used it cannot yield crops. If we pollute our water to much we die of poison. (None of these examples are over exaggerated).
