Title of the Project: Basic Fire Safety Awareness and Football as exercise

Project Proponent: UST Psychology Society in cooperation with Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal

III.

Project Rationale: The UST Psychology Society intends to help educate residents at Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal about the basic fire awareness and teach the children on how to improve their physical bodies by learning a sport. This will be done by having activities such as fire safety awareness seminar, how to make a home-made fire extinguisher for the adults and basic football demonstration for the children. This Outreach activity aims to provide a venue for social interaction and sharing of knowledge about safety and a recreational activity that would educate the residents. Also, the said activity aims to develop social awareness and involvement among the volunteers and to develop their Thomasian values of Compassion, Competence and Commitment. Project Objectives: At the end of the half-day activity, the participants will be able to: 1. To enhance the mental and physical life to 50 children from Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal by a basic football demonstration. 2. Teach the residents basic fire safety procedures and learn how to make an alternative fire extinguisher. 3. To instill and leave a spirit of enthusiasm and hope.

4. To help them engage in productive and self-beneficial recreational activities that would prevent them from doing otherwise. 5. To uplift the spirit of the children from Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal through productive and friendly interaction with the volunteers.

Project Description: The activity will be spearheaded by the UST Psychology Society in cooperation with Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal (partner community of the College of Science). The UST Psychology Society will assemble at Plaza Mayor at exactly 7:00 am. The bus will leave the premises at 7:30 am. The program will begin with an opening prayer to be led by Lorrain Gualberto, Committee head of the UST Psychology Society Outreach committee followed by the opening remarks to be given by Rainier Ples, External PRO of the UST Psychology Society. After the remarks, Ren Lexus Sanqui, Assistant Committee head of UST Psychology Society Outreach Committee will give an ice breaker. The volunteers will have a chance to interact with the children throughout the program. Afterwards, the volunteers will have an interaction activity with the children through basic football demonstration. And simultaneously, the older residents will be having their basic fire safety awareness seminar and will be taught to make an altenative fire extinguisher. Then, snacks will be served. Then the Psychology Societys gift of football equipments will be given to the representative of Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal. The program will end with a closing remark that will be given by Sr. Angelina Julom, Adviser of the UST Psychology Society and the closing prayer to be led by Patricia Denise Orquia, Assistant Committee head of the UST Psychology Society Outreach Committe. A cleanup of the venue will be done before the candidates leave the premises of Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal. The estimated time of departure from Brgy. San Jose, Rodriguez Rizal is at 12:00 pm and the time of arrival at UST is 1:00pm.

40 children and 30 adults from Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal and 50 volunteers from UST Psychology Society

Preparatory Phase The officers of the UST Psychology Society Outreach Committee made arrangements with the head of Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose

Rodriguez, Rizal. The members of the committee interviewed the representative of Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal and asked the particular needs of the place. Psychology Society Outreach Committee members who are available on February 4, 2012 (Saturday) from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM will be invited to join the activity. The UST Psychology Society Outreach Committee will orient the volunteers before the activity and will be ready to give assistance to the participants throughout the program.
B.

Implementation Phase Each volunteer must interact with the children in Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal. The volunteers will be assisted by the Psychology Society Advisers, Executive Board, and Outreach Committee heads. An in-charge person from Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal will help the UST Psychology Society facilitate the program. Each member of the Psychology Society will be assigned to a particular task for the organized flow of the program.

Post-implementation Phase

1. Assessment/Evaluation Survey forms would be distributed to and answered by the volunteers who participated. The evaluation forms would consist of items rating the effectiveness of the program to the participants and comments about the flow and content of the activities. Lastly, a post-operational meeting will be conducted for the evaluation of the activity.

2. Documentation Documentation will be done via pictures by the committee heads present during the event. Pictures taken will then be compiled. One copy will be uploaded into the Psychology Society Facebook Site and another copy will be submitted to the Office for Community Development. 3. Reporting The Psychology Society Outreach Committee, together with the representative from Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy. San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal will

evaluate the feedback given by the children and volunteers. A report of the feedback and evaluation will be presented to the Psychology Society advisers.

Sustainability: The continuity of this program will be maintained through follow-up visits after the activity. The follow-up visits which will be made by the Psychology Society Outreach Committee will help in the evaluation of the recent activity and in the formulation of upcoming activities which will be done in collaboration with the people of Southville 8C, Kasiglahan Village Brgy.
