QUESTION 1 a) A group of researchers is investigating the water quality of the lakes in the Northern Region which consists of three states. Based on a complete list of lakes in the region, they randomly selected only one-fourth of the lakes from each state. The collections of water samples from each selected lake were then taken for analysis. i) State the population for this survey. (1 mark) ii) Define the sampling frame for this survey. (2 marks) iii) State the variable of interest and identify its type. (2 marks) iv) What sampling technique is used in this survey? (1 mark) v) Explain briefly how you will select four lakes from twenty lakes if systematic sampling is used. (3 marks) Name the most appropriate data collection method to be used in this survey. Give ONE (1) advantage and ONE (1) disadvantage of using this method. (3 marks)

Verify your answer. (2 marks) b) A fruit seller received eighty boxes of oranges from the fruit dealers during a festive season. Out of the eighty boxes, twenty boxes were delivered by dealer R, fifty boxes by dealer S and the rest by dealer T. From past experienced, the fruit seller observed that 3%, 7% and 10% of the oranges delivered by the dealer R, S and T respectively are rotten. i) Draw a tree diagram. (3 marks) ii) What is the probability that the oranges delivered by the dealers are rotten? (3 marks) If it is known that the oranges were in good condition, find the probability that they were delivered by dealer R. (3 marks)
