Communication
Part of being a pastor is going to workshops, trainings, and meetings. Both denominations mandate clergy to attend one type of training. The UCC denomination call it Boundary Training, and the UMC call it their Quadrennial Ministry Ethics Training. Although the two call it different things, it basically amounts to being the same. The 2013 was the Quadrennial training for our conference, and I attended our training on April 22nd. This year, before going to the training we were to read the book Healthy Disclosure: Solving Communication Quandaries in Congregations by Kibbie Simmons Ruth & Karen A. McClintock. This book was used as the starting point for the training. The insert in this newsletter was one of our hand-outs for the day, a condensed version of what was presented in the book and training. We were encouraged to share the information with our congregations so that we may all become better communicators with each other both inside and outside the church. There have been guidelines/rules to follow with communication dating all the way back to the Old Testament. Perhaps the best known scripture reference is Matthew 18:15-18. Jesus was telling the disciples when there is an issue with another to go to that person in private and try to work things out. If you are still unable to work it out then you are to go to another and take them with you to talk to the person. It is my hope that we will all take this opportunity to read/review the different communication styles and that we may all work towards having Healthy Communication with others. Pastor Cory

If you are aware of someone in need of a pastoral call, please inform Pastor Cory at the office, 957-4960 or cell 404-788-4997. She would rather hear from multiple sources than from no one at all. In these times of privacy rights, hospitals and nursing homes may not divulge information relating to a resident or patient, so it is very important that members and/or their families let the Pastor know of all needs for pastoral care.
Do you have thoughts, ideas, changes that you would like to see to Lords Harvest. Then come and share them July 16th at 5:00pm!
