Chapter 4: Wisdom perfects our path.

We also discuss Jesus letter to the church of

Pergamos
The Book of Proverbs Chapter 04

Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know
understanding.
Proverbs 4:2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father,
II Timothy But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of,
3:14 knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
II Timothy And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make
3:15 thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
II Timothy All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
3:16 reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
II Timothy That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
3:17
and attend to know understanding.
Ephesians See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
5:15
Ephesians Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
5:16
Ephesians Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
5:17
For I give you good doctrine,
Hebrews Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the
13:9 heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that
have been occupied therein.
forsake ye not my law.
Luke And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
6:46
Luke Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to
6:47 whom he is like:
Luke He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock:
6:48 and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not
shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Luke But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house
6:49 upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and
the ruin of that house was great.
Proverbs 4:3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my
mother.
Proverbs 4:4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words:
keep my commandments, and live.
Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live:
I John Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth
5:1 him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
I John By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his
5:2 commandments.

Proverbs 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the
words of my mouth.
Proverbs 4:6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall
keep thee.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee. Lot’s wife forsook God’s instruction and was
turned into a pillar of salt:
Luke Remember Lot's wife.
17:32
Luke Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life
17:33 shall preserve it.
Note: the word “forsake” is used eleven times in the book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy
getting get understanding.
Proverbs 4:8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour,
when thou dost embrace her.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee:
I Peter Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in
5:6 due time:
I Peter Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
5:7
She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her; Stephen, the first Christian
martyr, explains how the wisdom of Joseph brought him to honor in the land of Egypt:
Acts And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,
7:9
Acts And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight
7:10 of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.
Acts Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and
7:11 our fathers found no sustenance.
Acts But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.
7:12
Acts And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was
7:13 made known unto Pharaoh.
Acts Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and
7:14 fifteen souls.
Acts So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,
7:15
Acts And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a
7:16 sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.
Proverbs 4:9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall
she deliver to thee.
Note: the word “crown” is used seven times in the book of Proverbs.
Provervs 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall
be many.
God’s message to King Solomon:
I Kings And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy
3:14 father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
Proverbs 4:11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
Proverbs 4:12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou
runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
I have led thee in right paths;
Matthew Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were
15:12 offended, after they heard this saying?
Matthew But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted,
15:13 shall be rooted up.
Matthew Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind,
15:14 both shall fall into the ditch.
When thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble:
John Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he
11:9 stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
John But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11:10
Proverbs 4:13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go; The church in Pergamos took fast hold of Jesus
name and did not let go or deny Jesus even in the face of adversity:
Revelation And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the
2:12 sharp sword with two edges;
Revelation I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou
2:13 holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein
Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.
for she is thy life. The commendation: Pergamos held fast the name of Jesus:
Matthew Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my
10:32 Father which is in heaven.

Pergamos is a church of compromise Per= mixed gamos=marriage

- This church represents the time frame where the day of worship was changed from
Saturday to Sunday.313-600 A.D.
- Age of Constantine
- Pagan holidays became Christmas and Easter.
- A great religious center
- City of the serpent
- Zeus said to be born there

- He which hath the sharp sword with two edges = The word of God (Ephesians 6:17)

- That leaves us with the question; What does the scripture mean (Where Satan dwelleth)?

- Babylon is the fountain head of idolatry throughout the world.

- Once Babel was split up, pieces of that religion was spread throughout the earth and in
every religion. The piece of that puzzle that contained the very presence of Satan himself
stayed in Babylon.
Genesis And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men
11:5 builded.
Genesis And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this
11:6 they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have
imagined to do.
Genesis Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand
11:7 one another's speech.
Genesis So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they
11:8 left off to build the city.
Genesis Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the
11:9 language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the
face of all the earth.

- Satan’s seat = Satan is not omnipresent. Satan came from Babylon to Pergamos after
Cyrus II of Persia conquered Babylon in October 539 BC.

- The Babylonian priesthood and wise men from Babylon took everything out of the
Babylonian temple and fled to Pergamos.

- The temple was full of artifacts from all the temples of the cities that Babylon conquered.
Many of these artifacts had demonic a presence attached to them.

- Some of these artifacts were stolen out of the temple of the house of God which was at
Jerusalem;

- The presence of this Satanic / Pagan religious system moved to Pergamos with all the
principalities, powers, priest, and people that fled from Babylon.

- Along with everything else, they brought the very presence of Satan. This Satanic presence
is believed to be connected with the throne of Nimrod.

- This same religious system adopted Latin labels and formed the foundation of Pagan
Rome.

Paganism spread from Babylon to Rome by way of Pergamum. The Babylon Kings, who
were descended from Nimrod, served as both king and priest of the pagan Babylonian
Mystery religion. As priests, they bore the title “Pontifex Maximus” or “Supreme
Pontiff,” meaning “supreme pathfinder” or “bridge maker,” representing “the path or
connection between this life and the next.” They ruled upon the throne of Satan, which is
the throne of Nimrod as the “hidden god.”

The last king to reign in Babylon was Belshazzar, who celebrated the pagan Babylonian
ritual using the sacred Jewish temple vessels which his father King Nebuchadnezzar
confiscated from the Jewish temple in 587 B.C.:
Daniel Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels
5:2 which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem;
that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
Daniel Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of
5:3 God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines,
drank in them.
Daniel They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood,
5:4 and of stone.

- Babylon is used idiomatically of our whole world system.

James Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity
4:4 with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

- The rebellion that Nimrod started is going on today.

- The one thing that God puts before everything is His word. We should put God’s word at
the head of our priorities.

- Satan is in charge of the world system.

Matthew Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all
4:8 the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Matthew And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and
4:9 worship me.
Matthew Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship
4:10 the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

It is often said that Pope Damasus I, Bishop of Rome from 366 to 384 and so for the
whole of the reign of Gratian, was the first pope to use the title "Pontifex Maximus", but
no document is cited in support of this
statement.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontifex_Maximus
- A similar event happened in this country called Operation Paperclip. As far as bringing
demonically charged, principalities, powers, and people to our land.

The Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency (JIOA) was the organization directly
responsible for Operation Paperclip , a program to bring German scientists to the United
States at the end of World War II. The JIOA was established in 1945 as a subcommittee of
the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States
Armed Forces . It was composed of one representative of each member agency of the JIC,
and an operational staff of military intelligence officers from the different military
services. Among the JOIA's duties were administering the Paperclip program's policies
and procedures, compiling dossiers, and serving as liaison to British intelligence officers
operating a similar project. It was also responsible for collecting, declassifying, and
distributing Combined Intelligence Objectives Subcommittee (CIOS) and other technical
intelligence reports on German science and industry. In addition, the JOIA took over
many of the activities of CIOS when that organization was terminated. The JOIA was
disbanded in 1962 .

Who was Antipas, the faithful Martyr? Antipas = Against all

Emperor worship started in Pergamos. In 27 B.C. the first emperor worship temple was
erected here.
Citizens were to put a pinch of incents in the fire in order to get a certificate of patriotism.
Proverbs 4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Enter not into the path of the wicked:
II Thessalonians Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there
2:3 come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
II Thessalonians Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is
2:4 worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that
he is God.
And go not in the way of evil men:
Colossians Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of
2:18 angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his
fleshly mind,
Colossians And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having
2:19 nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Proverbs 4:15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Proverbs 4:16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is
taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
Cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way:
II Peter But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things
2:12 that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
II Peter And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in
2:13 the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own
deceivings while they feast with you;
II Peter Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an
2:14 heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
II Peter Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the
2:15 son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
II Peter But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the
2:16 madness of the prophet.

Revelation But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the
2:14 doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of
Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Q. What is a stumblingblock?
A. An obstacle in one’s path as they try to walk with God.
Note: the word “stumblingblock” is used thirteen times in scripture.

Q. What is meant by “eat things sacrificed unto idols”?

A. to eat meat sacrificed to an idol as an act of worship; and to commit fornication means
spiritual fornication. An example would be anointing yourself with holy oil touched to the
shroud of some saint. It’s our faith in Jesus that makes us whole. We should follow the
example of the lady that touched Jesus’ garment.
Mark And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
5:25
Mark And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and
5:26 was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Mark When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
5:27
Mark For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
5:28
Mark And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she
5:29 was healed of that plague.
Mark And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him
5:30 about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Mark And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest
5:31 thou, Who touched me?
Mark And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
5:32
Mark But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell
5:33 down before him, and told him all the truth.
Mark And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be
5:34 whole of thy plague.

Q. What is a Nicolaitane?
A. One who take preeminence of the church and over rules the people.
III John I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among
1:9 them, receiveth us not.
III John Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with
1:10 malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren,
and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
III John Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of
1:11 God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and
more unto the perfect day.
The shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day:
Matthew Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
5:14
Matthew Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it
5:15 giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Matthew Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify
5:16 your Father which is in heaven.
Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they
stumble.
The way of the wicked is as darkness:
Matthew The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall
6:22 be full of light.
Matthew But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light
6:23 that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
They know not at what they stumble:
I John He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in
2:10 him.
I John But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not
2:11 whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
A plea not to deceive ourselves:
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Proverbs 4:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine
heart.
Let them not depart from thine eyes;
Luke The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also
11:34 is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
Luke Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
11:35
Luke If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of
11:36 light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
Proverbs 4:22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
A promise to the overcomer:
Revelation He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that
2:17 overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone,
and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth
it.
Hidden manna = For forty years Israel was fed with angels food.
John I am that bread of life.
6:48
John Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
6:49
John This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not
6:50 die.
John I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall
6:51 live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the
world.
Who is the overcomer?
I John For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that
5:4 overcometh the world, even our faith.
I John Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:5
Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Keep thy heart with all diligence;
Mark And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me
7:14 every one of you, and understand:
Mark There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things
7:15 which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.
Mark If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
7:16
For out of it are the issues of life.
Matthew Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and
6:19 where thieves break through and steal:
Matthew But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
6:20 corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Matthew For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
6:21
Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

6:19 where thieves break through and steal:
Matthew But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
6:20 corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Matthew For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Proverbs 4:24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from
thee.

froward 2
Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of
judgment:
Matthew O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the
12:34 abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Matthew A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an
12:35 evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
Matthew But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give
12:36 account thereof in the day of judgment.
Matthew For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
12:37
Proverbs 4:25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before
thee.
Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? Let thine eyes look right
on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee:
II Corinthians But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4:3
II Corinthians In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not,
4:4 lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should
shine unto them.
II Corinthians For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your
4:5 servants for Jesus' sake.
II Corinthians For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our
4:6 hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus
Christ.
Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Proverbs 4:27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:
Matthew But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
6:3
Matthew That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall
6:4 reward thee openly.

There are seven parts of our bodies that we are called to keep with all diligence:
1. Incline thine ear unto my sayings. 4:20
2. Let them not depart from thine eyes; 4:21 & Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine
eyelids look straight before thee. 4:25
3. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 4:23
