1 Hardware Installation

1.2 Preparations
1.2.1 Installation Requirements

The installation position of the computer should comply with the requirement of the equipment design. The cables behind the computer as well as the cables in the cable trough should be laid and bound in order, rather than mixed together. Leave cable margin when binding the cables to make the equipment adjustable. Screws on the computer chassis must be fixed tightly. Cables should not be exposed on the operation table except the keyboard, mouse and printer cables. Position the power sockets properly so as not to pull the power cable too tight, thus avoiding unexpected power-off. It is better the computer share the same ground wire with the transmission equipment. Surfaces of the computer and printer must be clean, neat, well glazed and properly marked.

1.2.2 Working Environment

Prepare a steady and proper-sized computer table to accommodate the computer, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad and printer. Install the system in a place which is away from direct sunlight, heat, humidity and dust. The space between the back of the computer and other materials should be at least 8 cm wide to ensure good ventilation. Smoking is forbidden in the equipment room. The power supply of the computer should be connected to the UPS with stable voltage and power-off protection. The whole system must be grounded. The computer should be away from other electronic equipment with electromagnetic interference. It is suggested that the DCN bandwidth between the client and the server be 2M bit/s at least.

1.2.3 Unpacking and Check

Open the pack and check whether the display, keyboard and mouse are complete and whether there is any damage. Check whether the workstation or PC attached materials are complete. If there are other auxiliary peripherals of the equipment, their completion including the description materials should be checked.

1 Hardware Installation

1.3 Installation Steps

SUN workstation or PC serves as NM system hardware platform. It is recommended for the user to equip a printer to print the fault report, configuration report and performance report, etc. If NM is connected with DDN network and E1 through gateway NE, such corresponding auxiliary equipments as routers and HUB should be installed. Step 1 Properly install the computer operation table, preferably a specialized computer operation table, before installing the computer itself. Put host on the left of the operation table with the monitor on the host or beside it. And then put the printer on the right. Step 2 Correctly connect the cable and power cable of the display, host power cable, printer cable, keyboard plug, mouse plug and network cable. Step 3 If the system uses other peripherals, such as tape recorder, external CD-ROM, external hard disk, etc., then connect the peripherals according to the specific connection requirements, and place them on the appropriate positions of the operation desk. Step 4 Chassis of the terminal equipment should be connected with that of the transmission equipment. In a computer system, the GND and the chassis PGND are connected to the PGND of 3-jack plug of AC power, and the computer is connected to the grounding polar via PGND of the power connection box. In an actual application, due to such factors as small diameter of the power cable, high contact resistance in the connection box, high-voltage discharge of the monitor, and the induction and coupling of AC 220 V, the earth potential of the computer may fluctuate greatly, thus giving rise to abnormal network communication. Consequently, it is suggested that a thick grounding cable be used to replace the central line of the power cable of NM computer, and connected to PGND connectors of the equipment room or PGND of the transmission equipment chassis. If a UPS is used for power supply of the computer, its chassis should be connected to the PGND connectors of the equipment room or PGND of the transmission equipment chassis, where the AC ground wire (PE) should be disconnected. Step 5 Install the printer according to the delivery-attached guide. Perform printer self-test after the installation. Note: Shut down the computer properly before plugging and unplugging the serial port or parallel port cables.

4 T2000 Installation FAQs

T2000 Installation FAQs

4.1 How to Check the Utilization of Workstation Partitions

You can use command df k to check the utilization, ratio and left space of every partition, and make sure that the area occupied is at modest level. The NM database usually occupies a portion of, rather than the whole of the /opt partition, the NM applications and logs transferred occupies /T2000 partition. When the area occupied in the /T2000 partition amounts to 80%90% of the total, please dump the backup file to a tape and delete the backup file on the hard disk via the command: rm file name.

4.2 Failure to Create Database Server When Installing Sybase

When installing Sybase, the system may deny you to create Adaptive Server by prompting you the following error information:
Building Adaptive Server 'xxxx': Building master device... Master device complete. Writing entry into directory services... Directory services entry complete. Writing RUN_SERVER file... RUN_SERVER file complete. Starting server... Task failed Unable to boot server 'xxxx'. Server 'xxxx' was not created.

It is because the shared memory parameters of the operating system should be modified before installing Sybase. Otherwise, above the error may occur. Huawei Technologies Proprietary

4-1

OptiX iManager T2000 Installation Manual

4 T2000 Installation FAQs

To modify the parameters: Step 1 Edit file /etc/system by adding in the last line with:
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=workstation actual physical memory (unit: MB) x 0.5 x1024 x 1024

Step 2 Save the file when modification is complete. Before re-installing Sybase, you should reboot the workstation to validate the modification.

4.3 Error Occurs When Re-installing Sybase

If fail to install Sybase, you should re-install it. When creating a Server, you may receive such report as Server XXX already exists in the 'interfaces' file. If Sybase has already been installed, an interfaces file might have been generated under the directory /opt/Sybase during the procedure of installation, describing the database Server to be installed. During re-installation, the installation program may check such file. If it exists and the name of Server to be installed is the same as that of the Server already installed, the installation program may consider such database already exists and refuse to proceed with the installation. Therefore, the interfaces file should be deleted before conducting Sybase installation. It is recommended that you should delete the /opt/sybase directory and all the files under it before reinstalling Sybase.

Booted Up

4.4 How to Determine Whether Sybase Server Process Has Already Been
There are two database servers available: Data Server and Backup Server. To check the working status of database server processes, you can execute showserver file located in directory /opt/sybase/ASE-12_0/install. Specifically, you can execute the following command as root user:
#/opt/sybase/ASE-12_0/install/showserver

Check whether the dataserver and backupserver are running. If not, the boot-up for database server processes is unsuccessful.

4.5 How to Modify the License of Sybase

The license of Sybase is stored in the license.dat file of the /opt/sybase/SYSAM-1_0/licenses directory. To modify the license of Sybase, you need to modify relevant contents in that file (the structure of the file is as shown below). For the dual-server system using the Sybase Replication Server scheme, you can see the license of ASE_SERVER in the license.dat file on the primary server. Since the Huawei Technologies Proprietary

4-2

OptiX iManager T2000 Installation Manual

4 T2000 Installation FAQs

secondary server is equipped with SybaseReplicationServer, you can see not only the license of ASE_SERVER but also the license of REP_SERVER in the license.dat file. The contents in the license of REP_SERVER can be modified according to the formal license upon delivery. The following is the structure of the license.dat file:
SERVER debugserver ANY 29722 VENDOR SYBASE /opt/sybase/SYSAM-1_0/bin/SYBASE USE_SERVER INCREMENT ASE_SERVER SYBASE 12.0 PERMANENT 15 2F62697489AF SN=1072021-9 OVERDRAFT=10000 ck=0 INCREMENT REP_SERVER SYBASE 12.5 PERMANENT 15 2F62697489AF SN=1072021-9 OVERDRAFT=10000 ck=0

This part is to be modified. Their meanings are explained as follows: Debugserver: host name, the name of the workstation where Sybase is installed. ASE_SERVER/REP_SERVER: function name, indicating which product this license belongs to. 15: Functional number. 2F62697489AF: authorization code. 1072021-9: serial number. You only need to modify corresponding items according to the information in the license authorization of Sybase.

4.6 How to Boot Up Sybase Server Processes Manually

Generally, database boot-up can be accomplished automatically with the boot-up of the workstation. However, when abnormality occurs or the database is shut down manually, it has to be booted up manually. Execute the following commands as root user:
#cd /opt/sybase/ASE-12_0/install #./startserver -f ./RUN_T2000DBServer & #./startserver -f ./RUN_T2000DBServer_back & #./showserver

Then check the status of the server. Huawei Technologies Proprietary

4.7 How to Know T2000 Server Has Been Booted Up on UNIX

Execute the following commands:
T2000%cd /T2000/server/bin T2000%./showt2000server

You can obtain the following result:

show ProcessManager process pid=1139 show ems process ... pid = 1140 show mdp process ... pid = 1136 show ss process ... pid = 1137 show toposvr process ... pid = 1138

Check whether the 5 processes of the Server are running, if any of ProcessManager, mdp, ss, toposvr and ems has and only has a process, it suggests that the Server has already been booted up normally; If a process is found absent, it suggests that the Server has not been booted up completely. If there are two or more cases occurring in a process, it suggests that the Server has been booted up repeatedly. On the last two occasions mentioned above, you should shut down the Server, then boot up the Server once again.

4.8 How to Shut Down T2000 Server on UNIX

Step 1 Execute the following commands:
T2000%cd /T2000/smclient T2000%./sysmonitor.sh

Step 2 Enter the Server name of T2000 and the password.

Huawei Technologies Proprietary

4-4

OptiX iManager T2000 Installation Manual

4 T2000 Installation FAQs

Step 3 Select [System/Stop Server] from the System Monitor. The Client shuts down after the Server shuts down.

Caution: It will generally take 23 minutes to shut down the Server, because before the Servers exits from the system, it needs to complete something which is unfinished yet. During the process, no re-activation of T2000 Server is allowed.

To shut down T2000 forcefully, please execute the following commands:

T2000%cd /T2000/server/bin T2000%./killserver

To shut down T2000 Server forcefully may leave some data unsaved. Never adopt such approach, unless the boot-up for the Server is incomplete, or the system has already collapsed.

4.9 How to Correctly Use License

To use the license file, first load the licensexxx.txt under the directory of /T2000/server, then reactivate T2000 Daemon. The simplest way of check is to login T2000 NM, and see whether more than 8 NEs can be created or whether path management function is available. If yes, it suggests that license file is valid. Otherwise, it is invalid. Please perform the following check:
1. On the UNIX Platform

Check whether the license file corresponds to the host computer by step1 and step2. Step 1 Execute the following command to get the MAC address of the host computer:
# ifconfig a

The terminal displays:

eri0: flags=1000849<UP, LOOPBACK, RUNNING, MULTICAST, IPv4> mtu 8232 index 1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000 hme0: flags=1000843<UP, BROADCAST, RUNNING, MULTICAST, IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2 inet 10.70.76.221 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.70.76.255 ether 8:0:20:c4:8f:db

8:0:20:c4:8f:db is the MAC address of the host computer that the license file corresponds to. Verify if the two MAC addresses are the same. If not, get the appropriate license file. Step 3 Check whether the ss and ems files are owned by root, and the permission level is -rwsr-xr-x. Otherwise, please modify it by the following commands: #cd /T2000/server #chown root ss #chmod u+s ss Step 4 Check whether the Text mode, namely ASCII mode, is adopted for the transfer of license file. Step 5 To check the transfer mode, open file licensexxx.txt at the workstation by Vi. If every line is ended with ^M, it shows that the transfer mode is incorrect, and the transfer should be repeated in the mode of ASCII. Or you can use the following command to convert the format: #dos2unix licensexxx.txt licensexxx.txt
2. On the Windows Platform

Check whether the license file corresponds to the host computer by step1 and step2. Step 1 Click [Start/Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt] to start a dos terminal, execute the following command:
