Seattle Mariners -- 2013 Minor League Awards

MLB FUTURES ALL-STAR GAME
The U.S. beat the World 4-2 in the 2013 All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York. Taijuan Walker pitched a scoreless 2nd inning,
allowing no hits and one walk. 1B Ji-Man Choi went 0-for-2 for the World Squad. Arizona minor-leaguer Matt Davidson (a high school
teammate of Walker) hit a two-run homer for the U.S., and Cubs prospect Arismendy Alcantara homered for the World team.
Seattle Mariners minor league pitcher Taijuan Walker and shortstop Brad Miller were selected to play for the U.S. squad in the 15th
annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York City as part of All-Star weekend. This was Walkers second consecutive
selection on the All-Star Futures roster.
INF Ji-Man Choi was added to the World team as a replacement for Rangers catcher Jorge Alfaro, who broke his hand when he was hit by
a pitch on Friday. SS Brad Miller was replaced on the U.S. team by D-backs shortstop Chris Owings, since Miller won't be eligible to play
now that he's on the Major League roster.
Tacoma Rainiers hitting coach Howard Johnson was also part of the U.S. coaching staff.
The Mariners have had 30 selections to the Futures Game since its first beginning in 1999. Three players on the current 25-man roster
played in the Futures Game in the past: Felix Hernandez (2004), Kendrys Morales (2005) and Michael Saunders (2007). Hernandez
(All-Star: 2009, 2011-12; Futures Game: 2004) is one of 99 players to have competed in both the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the
Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major
League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all fullseason Minor Leagues were eligible to participate.

AAA TACOMA RAINIERS PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

The Rainiers are 55-43 and lead the Pacific Coast League Northern division by 1.0 game over Salt Lake at the All-Star break. Tacoma was
26-20 at home and 29-23 on the road. Since moving into first place on May 29, the Rainiers have owned the top spot in the division for 45
consecutive games. It is the longest Tacoma has held at least a share of first place in the division since the 2005 Rainiers squad held down
the top spot for 68 consecutive games from May 4-July 18 of that season.
The 55 wins the Rainiers have tallied marks the most first-half victories collected by a Tacoma squad since the 2001 Rainiers recorded 58
wins before the break. The 2001 team went on to win 85 games - the third-most collected in franchise history. At the time of the All-Star
Break last season, the Rainiers were the owners of a 38-51 record and were 14.0 games behind first-place Reno in the Pacific Northern
standings.
Of the 25 players on the Rainiers active roster entering on the current roster at the All-Star Break, 10 were on Tacomas Opening Day

position players). That also includes 25 players (15 position players, 10 pitchers) that also were listed on the Mariners active roster at some
point during the 2013 season. Tacoma has undergone 111 transactions through 98 games played this season. The 2012 Rainiers

Rainiers have had 2 players featured in the Triple-A All-Star Game.
The Rainiers wrapped up the first half batting .269 (917x3410) with 542 runs scored, 192 doubles, 27 triples, 99 home runs and 505 RBI.
