he first reading tells of the annunciation of the birth of Isaac. It is profoundly mysterious, beginning with the appearance of the three men. This reading illustrates Gods active role in our history. The second reading treats a universal experiencesuffering. Paul sees suffering as the mark of discipleship. He finds joy in the suffering he endures because it is for the sake of the church. Through his preaching he hopes all people will come to accept Christ. The Gospel paints a lovely picture of Jesus at rest among his friends. Luke has placed the incident right after the parable of the Good Samaritan. But lest activism be seen as the only path, we now hear Jesus call to sit quietly and listen to the word of God. We have to be like both of the sisters. Even in our harried and noisy world, there is an insistent call to sit back quietly and listen to Jesus.

From the Pastors Desk.

Greetings from Poland and my family, especially from my mom who prays for our parish every day. Before I left for Poland, Fr. Joe came to me and asked me to pray for him , the Deaf Ministry, and the entire parish community at the Black Madonna Shrine in Czestochowa. I did that on Sunday, July 7 celebrating the Mass in front of the miraculous image of our Lady of Czestochowa entrusting our parish and school to her. I also brought a beautiful accurate copy of the original image of the Black Madonna that will be placed in our Saints Shrine on the Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of August. There will be a book in front of the image where we can write all our intentions that we want to bring to Jesus through the intersession of the Blessed Mother and they will be included in Mass intentions. We continue working on the Archdiocese and the parish campaign. We already listened to Cardinal Francis George and we read in the bulletin the newsletter introducing to us this campaign. Very soon there will be a fact sheet and a brochure available for us to give us more information about this campaign and prepare us for making our commitments to the campaign. In the meantime please pray for the success of the campaign which will support the Catholic Education in our Archdiocese and will help us complete necessary repairs to make our church a beautiful place of worship.

HELP CHILD VICTIMS

Once again, St. Francis Borgia Parish will provide school supplies for children who are victims of sexual abuse. Fr. Joe Mulcrone collects these supplies and donates all of them to the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center, 1240 S. Damen, Chicago. Each year, this Center handles over 2,000 reported cases of child sexual abuse. Many of these children cannot return to their homes; the site of their suffering. So, they need us to help them go back to school with needed supplies. The list for the supplies is located at the back of the church (East & West gathering Spaces), from the Rectory Office, or the Catholic Office of the Deaf: 312-534-7899, cathdeafch@archchicago.org

Respect Life
Today we stand before new challenges that call us to be the voice of the voiceless. The child growing in its mothers womb and people who are in their declining years are a claim for dignified life that cries out to heaven and that cannot but make us shudder. The liberalization and routinization of abortion practices are abominable crimes, just as are euthanasia, genetic and embryonic manipulation, unethical medical testing, capital punishment, and so many other ways of assaulting the dignity and life of the human being. If we want to maintain a solid and inviolable basis for human rights, we absolutely must recognize that human life must always be defended from the very moment of conception. Otherwise, the circumstances and conveniences of the powerful will always find excuses for abusing persons."

Greeters
The smiles and kind words of our greeters are greatly appreciated. To join our smiling greeters group, just tell any greeter, grab a badge and from the basket in the Baptistry area, and go to any entryway and share your smile and your hospitality. I want to thank all our Greeters for welcoming our parishioners and guests in our church with smiles and love. - Fr. Rich
