Date: June 8, 2013 Course: Communications 130 Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Create a variety of logos to fit a company using the
basic tools of Adobe Illustrator.

Logos

Description: Three logo variations for the same company. Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator CS5 Process: I first started by sketching out my ideas for the logo on

a piece of paper. For the first logo, I found an outline of the state of Washington and did a very simple outline with the pen tool. I then created the squeegee by tracing an image with the pen tool. I created the background of the text portion by using the pen tool, and then put in the squeegee in order to try to make it look like a window might look as you clean it. For the second logo I made the sparkle look by creating an oval and then going through the next steps: Effects -> Distort and Transform -> Pucker and Bloat For the third logo, I went through and made rectangles in order to make a decent looking window outline, then made the dark blue box and sent it behind the window frame. I then put in the text, selecting the bottom text and using Option+right arrow, in order to give more spacing between each letter.

Business Card

Description: An example of a business card designed for a Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign Process: I created the logo of the company using simple shapes

and type in Adobe Illustrator. I then inserted that logo into Adobe InDesign. For the business card, I felt like I should make it simple, so I used the rectangle tools to create the front and back of the business card. I then inserted my logo on one side, and the contact information on the other side. I made the colored lines connecting the two with the line tool.

Stationery

Description: An example of a letterhead designed for a company. Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign. Process: I created the logo of the company using simple shapes

and type in Adobe Illustrator. I then inserted that logo into Adobe InDesign. For the letterhead, I decided to put the logo of the company in the top right and the contact information on the left side. I used the colored lines to tie it in with the business card, to give it that unified look. I used different font sizes for the name and the rest of the contact information, to give it a little bit of contrast. I then used a simple window shape I made in Illustrator and lowered the opacity on it in order to make a watermark.

Date: June 1, 2013. Course: Communications 130. Instructor: Eric Lybbert. Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend
images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography. composite of images and type.

Montage

Description: A new and fresh inspirational poster created using a Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop Process: For this project I decided to focus on Michael Jordan

and his intensity (which was my motivation for using the volcano with the lightning storm, hopefully that connection makes sense even a little bit.) After collecting the two images from Google Images, I set the volcano as the background, and then did a quick cut out of MJ with the lasso tool and moved it over. I then used a masking layer and the brush tool to blend MJ into the photo. I applied the Smudge Stick filter to Jordan, as I felt it gave it an interesting look, but didnt ruin the overall look. I then added the quote to the image. I decided to contrast intense desire with the rest of the type by changing the size of it.

web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.

Description: This is a web page created through the use of html

and css, describing the design process for a logo I previously created.

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, TextWrangler Process: I created the basic outline of the page using html,

inserting the text describing the logo creation process. I then edited the demo.css file that was provided, making sure to change the colors and text families. I made sure to use a limited amount of colors, including some of the same colors as the logo, in order to keep it simple and not overwhelming. I then validated to make sure the html worked properly.

typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Description: A simple flier for a leadership conference. Programs Used: Adobe InDesign. Process: I started by gathering all the supplied images and text,

making sure to correct any grammar or spelling mistakes in the text to be used. After making 4 sketches of different design styles I might use, I went into InDesign and began making the flier. I have had some experience with Photoshop and Illustrator, but nothing too serious. Working with InDesign and making the flier, I tried to pay attention to the design principles of Proximity, Alignment, Repetition, Contrast and Flow.

Date: May 24, 2013. Course: Communications 130. Instructor: Eric Lybbert. Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera
to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.

Imaging

Description: A photo I personally took and edited in Photoshop. Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop. Process: I actually took this picture with my cell phone, and I

was surprised how well it turned out. I opened it in Photoshop and changed the image size to 6x6, 150 resolution. I then selected the entire image and desaturated. I then used a masking layer and the brush tool to bring back the color in the tree/leaves. It took a while, but using the different selection tools was just not providing the results I wanted in selecting the sky behind the leaves.
