Date:
06/14/2013
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
I made the logo first by using some tools in the Illustrator. I also used the circle tool to make a circle. I used the pen tool to draw the roses. And then I put C and Y in the middle of the logo and dots along the circle. I put some colors on them. After I finished creating the logo, I opened a new page InDesign document and placed my logo .AI file into this document. I used the rectangle tool to create the front outline of my business card. I then placed the logo that I made and put the contact information onto this page. I also brought the dashed line into the business card to get some repetitions.

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
I opened a new page InDesign to make a letterhead. I placed the logo that I made in the top left corner of my letterhead. I then typed my contact information into a text box and positioned it on the bottom of the letterhead. I made my name 12pt size to contrast with the 8pt contact information. I added in a couple lines to get some repetition. I also added a large black and white version of a watermark of my logo in the middle of the letterhead. I kept the opacity to about 2%.

Website
Description:
A web page designed to showcase personally created logo.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content.
Process:
I created this web page by using TextWrangler. This is my first time to deal with HTML/CSS. It was interesting for me to make a web page by only using a simple text editor. After I made my HTML/texts, I used http://www.W3.org to validate my file. It was pretty useful to check to see if I had any problems with my code. After I checked all my content, I connected a pre-made CSS document given to me to my HTML. Then I used the colors from my logo as the colors for my web page background color. I found these colors by using the eyedropper tool in Photoshop. I also changed my fonts to Verdana and Georgia. I put are 262 words.
Brochure
Description:
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Date:
07/12/2013
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images.
Process:
I set up the layout of a brochure in Adobe InDesign. I put guide lines to fold the brochure and the light green color to make flow with the logo that I made. I used green dots somewhere in my brochure to create a repetition. And I used black as a point color to contrast with green well. Also, I chose some high quality pictures that are related to this agency. For the image of a man, I used the quick selection tool in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the image. I then used the smooth function to make the edge of the picture blur. So the image didnt look so sharp and cutout against the brochures background. Then I placed the image into InDesign where I used the text wrap option to wrap my text around.
Event Ad

05/17/2013
A colored full bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using Microsoft word and a scanned picture from a magazine.
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner and PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)
Objectives:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.
Process:
I scanned the dog image from a magazine. Using Microsoft Word, I put some thick lines in the left top corner and slightly rotated the dog picture. I produced a focal point by giving colors to the lines. I put D-T-P and a body copy in the white space. Also, I put two thin black lines at the bottom to make the body copy clear.

A blank and white colored flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.
Date:
05/10/2013
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.
Process:
I initially created four sketches in order to consider the best layout. Next, I used one of my sketches as a guide when I used Adobe InDesign. I used two thick black lines and made them cross for repetition. I used black and white contrast for D-T-P to catch the interest of those who would view it. Also, I left white space on right side to make the body copy simple. I used the given image, logo, and content for this flier.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography.
Process:
First, I made a new document formatted to 8.5x11. I placed the background image of nature to the document. I also placed the image of the two people and added a new layer on it. Next, I blended by using the brush tool in Photoshop. I put texts on the top in right corner and applied Drop Shadow on both texts. And then I also added a new layer and blended the text with some dark blue color in order to make the texts look clear. I applied a filter called Dry blush on the background image.

Adobe Illustrator
Objectives: Process:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator. I used the illustrator to create those. For the top logo, I typed the texts first and then made VANK bigger in order to make a contrast in texts. Using the pen tool, I drew two lines, made them curve and put some colors on them. Also, I put some dots using the brush tool. On the middle logo, I also typed the texts first and then made VANK bigger in order to make a contrast in texts. Using the circle tool, I put a circle. I divided the circle into two parts and put red and blue. I put the text in the middle of the circle. On the bottom logo, I typed the texts first and then made VANK bigger in order to make a contrast in texts. And then using the brush tool, I put many various green dots above the letter V to make them look like a tree.

Imaging
Description:
A personally taken picture that has been edited and filtered using Photoshop.
Date:
05/22/2013
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02/Eric Lybbert
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop/A flash card
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.
Process:
I took this photograph with my Nikon J1 Camera. It was taken on the BYU-Idaho campus. Even though it was somewhat cloudy, I could take a decent picture. I subsequently imported this photograph to Adobe Photoshop and cropped it to a 66 inch square. Then I selected the flowers using the quick selection tool and the lasso tool. And then I desaturated the rest of the image. I also applied an Ink outline filter.
