Letterhead
Description: A letterhead created based on a self-designed logo Programs: Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: Process: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop June 14, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Create a new logo for a personal image or company; design a consistent letterhead layout; use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. I developed some basic designs for a company logo. After that, I created the logo using Adobe Illustrator. I used primarily the pen, text, and shape tools. In order to create the lime, I found a clip art image, imported into Photoshop and made some line and transparency changes there. I then moved it into Illustrator and traced it. To create the watermark on my stationery and the background pattern on my business card, I drew a rectangle and used the Illustrator fill tools. I then changed the coloring and opacity. I decided to go for a lot of white space, and high contrasting colors and fonts to give the stationary a younger look. When the design was completed, I placed it into an InDesign document.

Brochure
Description: A duplex brochure created using Adobe programs in order to promote a business Programs: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: Process: July 12, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Set up and align a two-sided, folded document; create an original company logo and use it in a brochure; incorporate quality images into a duplex layout. I began by creating some sketches. I set up an 1117 document in InDesign. I used basic math to calculate the location of the folds to accommodate 5 square panels on an 1117 paper. I used Illustrator and Photoshop to trim and edit my images to be square, and to create a logo. I found a line drawing of a film reel, and using the pen tool in Illustrator, recreated it to serve as an image. Alignment was particularly important to the organization of my text and images. I set up paragraph styles to ensure consistency in my titles and text throughout the document. I also used the text wrap palette in InDesign to wrap text around the shape of my images. I printed the brochure in black and white on an tabloid.

Flier
Description: Black and white, letter-size flier; promotional for a graduate leadership conference Programs: Adobe InDesign Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: May 9, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Application of the design principles; recognizing and using appropriate typography; use basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout; retrieve image and logo from links on a website; create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact I began by doing multiple pencil sketches of possible designs. I settled on a single design and, working from my sketch, developed a draft in InDesign. The logo, photo, and basic information were provided. I rewrote the body copy to increase interest while still maintaining the necessary information. My design development relied heavily on contrast and alignments. I used the placement of a cropped photo in order to create a particular eye-path through the flier.

Imaging
Description: A self-taken photo formatted and edited using Adobe Photoshop Programs: Adobe Photoshop Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: May 23, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Gain an understanding of basic photography skills; Take a quality image with a digital camer and dowload it; use photoshop to size, crop, adjust image contrast, birghtness, and saturation, isolate and apply a filter to a particular part of an image. I started by taking a bunch of basic shots on my camera, paying careful attention to the rule of thirds. After taking this photographs, I picked one and cropped it to a 66 square. I opened the image in Photoshop. Using the Quick Selection tool, I selected the rim of the water meter cover and then desaturated it. Then, I used a channel to create a selection on the objects in the shot that were not foliage. Having done this, I used my selection to create a layer mask and applied the Half-tone Dot filter to the unmasked areas of the image.

Montage
Description: Two images blended together in order to visually represent the ideas in an inspirational quote Programs: Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: Process: Adobe Photoshop May 31, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Manage photo layers; blend images together smoothly using masks and filters; select fitting typography My process started with a Google search for a quote. Once I found a quote, I started the search for images. I had the idea to juxtapose man against his surroundings: to put a man believing in the midst of physical despair. Once I selected my images, I opened them in Adobe Photoshop. I developed a draft, but was unsatisfied with it. I decided to revise it. I desaturated the background and added a sharpen filter. I then added the man, and using layer masks I blended him into the background. In another layer, I masked to create the gradient at the bottom of the page. I then imported my text. I opted for group the text in a block and used color and font to contrast. I added a couple of layer styles, particularly the Outer Glow to emphasize the contrast.

Event Ad
Description: A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner Programs: Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: Process: Microsoft Word May 17, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Find, scan and import a high-quality image; create a full-bleed design; use text boxes for layout in Word; insert and edit images in Word. I began with multiple pencil sketches of the ad layout and copy ideas. I practiced scanning with a few different images. After my practice and settling on a single design concept, I found an image in a magazine that suited my needs. I used an Espon scanner to get the image. I developed a draft in Microsoft Word. After review, I altered my design to more actively use the design principles of flow, contrast, and alignment. None of the information, including the copy and photo, was provided.

Web Page
Description: A web page created using basic HTML and CSS coding to showcase a self-designed logo Programs: Date: Course: Instructor: Objectives: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Notepad++ June 28, 2013 Communications 130 Eric Lybbert Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page; write content to describe the creation of the logo and describe the target audience; design a web page using HTML; acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS; identify hex colors for web design I began with gaining some basic knowledge about coding. After gaining a basic skill for it, I edited and formatted an HTML document to include my description of the logo and the logo I designed in Illustrator. I converted the logo to a .png using Photoshop. I then validated my code using the W3C Validation Service. Once it cleared, I began work on editing a CSS document and linked it to my HTML. With Photoshop, I found the hex color codes used in my logo and used them in the code. I declared some backup fonts for different computers and browsers.
