Business Card

A business card designed around a personally created logo. Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign June 13, 2013

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. - Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign. I created the logo using the pen tool and typography in Adobe Illustrator. After I created my logo, I opened two 8.5 x 11 documents in Adobe InDesign. I started by creating the business card. I used the rectangle tool to make the outline of the business card 3.5 x 2. I then copied the finished logo from Illustrator into InDesign. I resized it to fit on the front of the card. In order to keep the card clean and professional, I used the back of the card to place her contact information. In order to create contrast within the contact font, I made her name size 14 with the body copy at size 10. To tie the front of the card in with the back, I placed a pink rectangle at the left side of the card with a blue dashed line just to the right of it. I used the same colors that are in the logo on the front of the card.

Letterhead/stationary designed around a personally created logo and business card. Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign June 13, 2013

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. - Design a consistent layout that matches business card. I created the stationary/letterhead on an 8.5 x 11 document in Adobe InDesign. I copied the business cards onto my new document to make sure that I used the same fonts and font sizes. I began by placing the logo at the top left hand side of the page. Then using the same dashed line from the business card, I created flow by having it guide your eye to the top right hand side of the page where the contact information is located. I removed the text Find me on Facebook! and www.palmercakes. wordpress.com because I felt that, that information wasnt needed in the letter head. to finish off my stationary design, I used a thinner version of the pink retangle, used in the business card, at the bottom of the page. I feel that it really ties the whole document together.

Montage

May 30, 2013 Adobe Photoshop Inspirational Photo Montage. Blending two photos together.

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Learn to manage Photoshop layers. - Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. To begin my montage, I cropped the background image to 8.511. Then I placed the kneeling soldier into my image. Next, I added a mask to the image. I started by removing the hard image edges with a black brush at 100% opacity. With a larger black brush set at 30% opacity I removed the white surrounding him. I blended him into the background using a very large black brush, so that you can see the flag through him. To finish the image of the kneeling soldier, I added the filter Poster Edges. To finish my montage, I added the quote, Return with Honor to the top of the image. I began by placing a white rectangle and reducing the opacity to that it was just a faint rectangle that would serve to separate the quote from the background. I chose two contrasting font sizes, using the same font type to emphasize the word Honor. I think that it describes our military personnel very well.

May 10, 2013 Adobe InDesign Black and White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. - Incorporate basic InDesign skills. I started by sketching 4 layouts that I thought would work well for this project. Then I chose one of my layouts and began to create it in InDesign. I used small black squares as bullets and matched them with small white boxes in the top right hand corner for repetition. I left white space on the right side of the page to keep it simple. I also made sure to make my title clear and readable so that it would make a good focal point on the flyer.

Logos

June 8, 2013 Adobe Illustrator Three logo variations.

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. - Use the basic tools of Illustrator. I really enjoyed creating logos in Illustrator. To make the cupcakes, I used the pen tool to create the bottom or cup of the cupcake. Then separately I used the pen tool again to create the top or frosting of the cupcake. My original design of the cupcake is used in the second logo. I changed the frosting on the other two cupcakes by adding another anchor point at the top of the frosting and using the direct select tool to manipulate the curves, creating the swirl at the top. I used typography for the remainder of the logos. I tried to have a diverse color palette so that there were many different choices to choose from.

July 13, 2013 An offset, one fold, simple brochure. Adobe InDesign, Photoshop

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Set up and align a two-sided document - Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. - Incorporate quality images. I set up and 8.5 x 11 landscape document in Adobe InDesign. From there, I added guides so that I would be able to create folds in the brochure after printing. I started by adding the PalmerCakes logo down the offset side. I used a picture of a pink cake on the front because it was appealing to the eye and it helped to communicate what her business is about. I then added the words Weddings, birthdays, and special occasions on top of the cake so that they could see what she makes cakes for. On the inside I kept repetition with the blue dashed lines. I used a smaller photo of some colorful cupcakes that also went well with the color scheme. I then added the text wrap around the large cupcake in the center of the fold. I made sure to add some contact information as well as cost, flavors, etc. I kept the font and design very simple and easy to read. I devoted the back of the brochure to Meet the Owner. I like to know a little bit about the person I am going to meet, and I feel this was a good way to introduce her. The two paragraphs are explaining how she started and why she loves what she does. I also put a little bit of a personal life description so that customers can relate to her. At the bottom of the back I placed a smaller logo so that it stays in the customers mind and finishes off the brochure.

Event Ad

May 18, 2013 A color full-bleed event ad to promote a photo competition using only Microsoft Word and a scanner. Microsoft Word, Scanner

Course:

COMM 130 Visual Media

Instructor:
Eric Lybbert

Objectives: Process:

- Find, scan and import a high-quality image. - Create a full-bleed design. I scanned the images, and then used a Word image effect to delete most of the background on the image of the boy holding the vote sign. Then I added colors of red, white and blue to convey more patriotism. I chose two fonts for my title and one font for my body copy. I have designed in Word before, so I was familiar with the tools I had to work with. The only problem I had was with the scanner. No matter how I scanned the image it never came out quite clear.
