Christmas in England

Christmas in England is really fun. I like it when the weather is really cold because a snowy Christmas is so magical. In December the afternoons are dark but the streets have bright decorations and everybody puts colourful lights in their windows. We always buy a real Christmas tree, as tall as possible. It smells wonderful! We hang pretty decorations on the tree, like shiny tinsel, round baubles and twinkly lights. It is very exciting to see all the lovely presents under the tree; mysterious shapes, all wrapped in beautiful paper and gold ribbon. Father Christmas is a jolly, fat man in a red suit with a long, white beard. On Christmas Eve he visits all the houses in his magic sleigh and leaves presents for all the good boys and girls when they are fast asleep in their warm beds. On Christmas Day I always wake up really early to see what is in my lumpy stocking. Then we go to church and sing merry carols about gentle Mary, kind Joseph and the little baby Jesus. When we get home we give out all the special presents to the family while we wait for our delicious Christmas dinner to cook. I love seeing everybodys happy smiles as they see a new toy, a smelly soap or a soft scarf. We always say a polite thank you with a big hug and a kiss. Christmas is a marvellous time to be with my family and we all remember to be nice to each other and be grateful for all that we have.
