Update Retriever enables you to download update packages from the Lenovo Help Center Web site to a network share repository folder. Your repository folder provides the storage for update packages. Once configured, System Update and Easy Update can search your repository for update packages. This allows greater control of the updates that are available over your network. You can manually initiate the search for updates or schedule an automatic search for new packages on a specified time interval. If performing an automatic search, you can configure Update Retriever to provide notification when new updates are found so you can manually initiate the download or to automatically download the new updates and provide notification when downloading is complete.

New in 2009-3-17 release ================= 1. There was a problem in Update Retriever 3.0.0011 that existing Updates were not associated with newly added Systems even if they are applicable. It was fixed in this release. 2. Download performance of Update Retriever is improved due to infrastructure improvements.

ThinkVantage Update Retriever supports additional systems as content is created for them.

Software requirements ===================== The following operating systems are supported:

- Windows XP - Windows Vista - Windows 7 - Windows 8 - Windows Server 2003 - Windows Server 2008

Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 is required for Update Retriever to work properly. If it is not present on the system, the installer can download and install Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5, make sure your system connect to the internet during installation.

Downloading the package ======================= 1. Click the file links to download the files from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded files.

Installing the package ====================== Under Windows 8 --------------------------1. Open charms bar and click Search. 2. Type UpdateRetriever50-2013-3-18.exe in the search field, then click Files catalog. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the executable icon. You might see a dialog stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog, click Continue. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Under Windows 7/Windows Vista or 2008 ---------------------------

1. Click Start, then click Start Search. 2. Type UpdateRetriever50-2013-3-18.exe in the search field, then click Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the executable icon. You might see a dialog stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog, click Continue. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Under Windows XP or 2003 -----------------------------1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. 2. Type UpdateRetriever50-2013-3-18.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the UpdateRetriever50-2013-3-18.exe icon. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Silent installation of Update Retriever ==================================== Update Retriever can be installed in an unattended (silent) mode allowing you to launch the installation with the default settings. If you want to install Update Retriever in an unattended mode, follow the steps listed below:

1. Open a command prompt (DOS) session. 2. Using DOS commands go to the folder where you saved the file you

downloaded from the Update Retriever download page. 3. Launch the silent installation by adding the following parameters to the downloaded filename -s -a /s /v"/qn". For example,

UpdateRetriever50-2013-3-18.exe -s -a /s /v"/qn"

4. Wait for the installation to finish. 5. Close the command prompt session.
