Dear Brethren,

The last two weeks of our school year in the Seminary really went by fast. Sid spoke for the Banquet for graduates and faculty on March 2, and Penny Hall (hurrah for O.B.C.!) spoke at Baccalaiir<>ate on March 4. Our Conference on Evangelism, nexa March 6-9j had good
messages centered around the theme, "The Church at Work." The preachers, elders, and church members attending took a lively part' in the discussion periods, too, showing enthusiasm and zeal.

The planning meeting on Friday, which coordinated evangelistic efforts, kicked off the summer evangelistic work in the Cagayan Valley. Be praying for the four evangelistic teams going out from

the Seminary" iDenny's working with one} !

The harvest ^

greatly increased by the Lord working through the two teams that

went out last summer; a record 766 persons committed their lives to
our Savior during 1972, compared with 392 during 1971* Baptisms reported in January & February in the Cagayan Valley total 111, compared with 60 in January & February of 1972.
A fine crowd attended the 19th Annual Commencement Exercises

of the Aparri Bible Seminary held March 9, as four young men received
diplomas, and three young ladies received certificates. Dennis McKinney, our fellow missionary who travels in evangelistic work

throughout the Cagayan Valley, delivered a fine address.

Our neighbors claim they have enjoyed the daily "serenading"

by the boys who came to our home to practice quartets and duets, preparing special numbers for this summer's evangelistic work. You

I (Sid) had a fine opportunity in Manila recently to witness to a stewardess while waiti^ for my flight. When she asked me if I was
a tourist, our conversation began, and she started asking questions about the church. I told her Jesus is the only way man can be recon ciled to God, and also emphasized the importance of obedience to Him as long as we live. I believe God*s Word was planted in her heart; be praying for her.
We are extremely thankful for the gifts sent through the Reapers. We ask you to pray with us for a real financial need. With Jamie starting the 7th grade in Faith Academy in July, we are going to need

at least $75 more a month for their schooling. We need $87.50

immediately for registration fees for the three children for the 1973-74 school year. Will you be praying with us, and help us if you can?

Dear Christian friends,

This has been a busy, unusual monlda for the Boudreaxix family. On March 30 we came to Manila for a fourfold purpose: to see Berta in an operetta
put on by Paith Academy, to attend the celebration honoring the J. Willis

Hale*s 33 years in the Philippines, to go with the McKinneys to the convention of Churches of Christ in Abra, and to work on sutxnitting Social Security forms
for our Seminary personnel.

All of us went to the operetta and enjoyed it very much. The next morning Sid, Lorrita, and I went out to Manila Bible Seminary where the program for the
Hales was held. It was especially wonderful for the Hales that the Carlsons

from Cebu, dear friends of theirs, were there. The many warm expressions of appreciation to the Hales surely made them realize how much they are valued.

Our trip to Abra, April 5-10, was enjoyable, interesting, exhausting, and enriching. Lorrita, taking her two smallest children, and Marj, taking Jamie and Sharon, rode the bus nine hours to Bangued, Abra, where Dennis met them. The next day they went another three hours by Jeepney, walking, and hitch-hiking on
a freight truck to their destination of Sallapdan where the convention was held.

More than 600 people attended the convention, walking in from the mountains all
around. used for baptized radiated the days They listened eagerly to the semons in the outdorr, roofed pavilion the services, sitting on slabs of logs set on blocks. 28 persons were during the three days, and 5 transferred membership. Joy and enthusiasm from all who came, as they stored up spiritual food to help them through vAien they would be without regular preaching.

During the time we were in Abra, Sid was making a trip to Aparri regarding information needed to complete the SSS forms. We were finally able to finish the
fonns, submit them, and make payment on April I9. We have received information

that missionaries may fall under the Philippine Social Security law, and in our

case, retroactive to 1964the year we came, our balance would be about $1,000.
We cannot afford to borrow it, and yet dislike having to make an appeal to the churches. Yet if we must pay it in order to stay in the Philippines, we can only ask that you help us by contributing whatever you can. We will place any funds so received into a special account. Deadline is May 3I.
Junior camp is scheduled to begin next week, and we plan to be back in Aparri to help with that, and Senior camp the following week. After those two busy weeks, we will be preparing for the opening of the Seminary in Jime.

We continue to praise the Lord for the wonderful help of Christian friends, your gifts and prayers. We do need extra funds to pay this month's balance at

Paith Academy, but trust tiiat we will be provided with the necessary funds.
thank you for yo\ar help.

Dear BretHen:

We greet you in the name of our Lord, and praise, Him for the oppor tunity of serving Him this past year. Your generous support has enabled us to continue working here, and we're grateful.
There were long faces and tears at the airport when Berta and Scott left for Faith Academy July 10. We had decided we could not possibly send Jamie without firm pledged support for him, which we didn't receive. He is being t-aught-at home; Sharon goes to.the local fifth grade part-.time; Marj.
teaches her in the afternoon.

In August Charles and Roberta Selby went to Manila to consult the doctor about Roberta's condition. Sid took over the business in the office, something that takes hours and hours each day. Marj took over teaching English I which Roberta had been teaching.

Our first semester ended in September, with Religious Emphasis being

held at the Christian high schools in Isabela the last week. Faculty members and quartets from the Seminary went to preach and sing; 85 were won to Christ at both schools. Denny Hall left for Mindanao September 23 and writes that he is busy with the work there. Berta and Scott had a fall vacation coinciding with our semester break, so we had a relaxing week together. October and November have been months of typhoons and monsoon rains. In one week three typhoons roared through Aparri! The airfield has been so wet that airmail came only three times the whole month of October and right now it is closed again. Second semester classes began October 1; we have a total of .
112 students.

We are glad to tell you that there have been over 600 baptisms since January. The radio work is showing especially fine results, although Virgilio Danao, the jiXjeiaiLher., was recently operated on fox aJienlgii tumor of the throat. Be praying for this phase of the work here, as well as the Seminary: faculty and students; the Press; the Christian high schools. We are looking forward to having the "Traveling College" from Puget Sound College of the Bible participate in our Evangelistic Conference in December; I heard them sing at the Manila Bible Setninary and they have many talents. We have asked to be included on a charter flight leaving for San Franci-sco in April
There is also the need for the necessary travel funds before we leave,

to begin our furlough^but there are many jobs to be completed before we can
leave.

$2, 200 if we make the charter flight.

TO ABRA; THE MOUNTAIN PROVINCE

Starting out at U:30 a.m., April 5, Lorrita McKinney with her two youngest,
and I with Jamie and Sharon made it to the Rabbit Bus Station in time to catch

the 5:1^ a.m. bus. Nine jolting hours later we arrived in Bangued, Abra, where Dennis McKinney met us. We checked in at a small hotel across from the bus station, enjoyed a halo-halo (Filipino sundae: fresh fruits, coconut, shaved ice, condensed milk, sugar) in the park, and sacked out early. A two-hour hot,

bumpy ride the next morning took us as far as Subusob.

The children moimted

horses which had been brought for them, and the rest of us prepared to walk

the 10 miles to Sallpadan, our destination. After trudging along for 1-1/2 miles in the noonday sun, we gladly waved down a freight truck that came lumbering

up, climbed in the back, and even appreciated the bone-rattling ride to Sallpadan
since we didn't have to walk all the way*

People kept arriving all afternoon for the convention, having walked in from the mountains encircling Sallpadan A long soak in the mossy river refreshed us for the beginning of the convention that night. Men from the different
churches took turns singing native songs before the actual services began; one

/s(K

sang a long, involved announcement, composing as he sang, ending each phrase with a laughing, whispery-soft exhortation. Services started two hours late, but the people waited eagerly for the sermon at 11:00 pcm., enduring the hard,
wooden backless benches, occasionally squatting on the groimd to rest.

Sermons, panel discussion, question periods, and reports on the churches and Bible colleges filled the next day from 7:00 a.m. - 12:1+^, and from 3:00 6:30 p.m. and 7:30-10:30. I was thrilled to see a former Seminary student from the Selbys' early days leading a young people's choir. George and Arsenic
who are both active preachers in Abra, also attended the Seminary and are now

sending their wives to the Seminary in Apsirri to study the Bible and leam how
to teach children. They are putting their knowledge to good use.

Another Seminary student, Mercy Domingo, who received a certificate last year, has been teaching a kindergarten in the barrio of Ududiao, and had prepared a special number using young people from Abra, After working on me every day, Mercy finally persuaded me to accompany her to TJd-udiao to witness her closing
Kindergarten program, a two-hour hike farther in the mountains.

So I arranged with the McKinneys for Shaxon to travel back to Manila with them, and Monday morning Jamie and I began walking to ITd-udiao with Mercy. The mountain trail led up, winding through forests, breaking out into open meadows,

meandering down the rocky river, up the rice terraces, and up the mountain again.
Just when I would feel that my legs had been transformed into something resembling deteriorating rubber, we would start downhill, and they would feel normal until
the next climb. Two hours after we started we reached Ud-udiao, a beautiful little barrio set in a circle of coconut palms, with rice paddies stretching their emerald green fields out in front.

That afternoon I had another delicious, leisurely soak in the river where the

women gather to wash their clothes under the shade of a big tree, with the water bubbling over the rocks. At the program that night Jamie sang, and I sang and spoke briefly; the children who managed to stay awake performed very well, and Jesus Calumnag, graduate from the Aparri Bible Seminary, delivered a
fine message.

Gifts of wild honey and delicious Abra rice kept arriving the next morning for us to carry back with us. I met one elderly sister in Christ who had been baptized by one of the earliest missionaries to the Philippines, Mr. Hanna. It was hard to leave - the people were so kind and friendly. Jamie and I took tu2?ns riding the horse to Sallpadan, and once there, decided to wait until late afternoon to
walk to Subusob with our friend, Virgilio Danao, the radio preacher from Cagayan.

But at 2;l5 a private Land-Rover drove up and we dashed down the terraced hill

to see if we could ride; 2-1/2 hours later we were in Bangued in time to catch
the 6:00 evening bus for Manila. Twelve hours later we were in Manila, thankful
to the Lord for giving us such a good trip.
