ACTION SONG COMPETITION FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS (YEAR THREE ONLY) RULES AND GUIDELINES 1.

Introduction The Action Song Competition is held with the following objectives: 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 2. To encourage and increase the use of English Language among the younger pupils To build confidence and sense of ease with English Language among the younger pupils To develop skills of integrating scripting of music and movement with language To provide a platform for fun and happy learning

Competition Rules 2.1 2.2 Eligibility: This competition is open to Year Three pupils only from government-aided schools. Team: Each team should comprise 5 to 15 pupils accompanied by 2 teachers. Performers and musicians should be from these 5 to 15 team members. Time: On-stage presentation is allocated 5 to 8 minutes. Marks will be deducted thereafter. 2 minutes is allocated for stage arrangements, with the teachers as stage technicians. Theme: Choice/selection of theme is open. Lyrics: 2.5.1 Lyrics can be original or adapted from any authentic texts. 2.5.2 Contestants are not allowed to refer to any notes or texts during presentation. 2.5.3 Copies of the lyrics must be submitted to the organizers two weeks prior to the competition. School name and state should not be written on the lyrics. 2.5.4 Lyrics should not touch on sensitive issues such as race, religion, colour, personalities, politics, etc.

Presentation: Creativity is encouraged. Nevertheless, movements should not exceed and overwhelm the articulation of the song by the contestants. Miming is not allowed. Presentation should be confined to the stage. Background/Props: Background aids and props should be minimal. Costume/Attire: Participants should wear appropriate and decent attire that suits the characters they portray. Music: 2.9.1 Use of recorded music is allowed. (Tape used should not have voices or words.) 2.9.2 Use of musical instruments is allowed. However, musicians must sing and perform together with the team members during presentation.

Judges: The competition shall be judged by an odd numbered panel of 3 or 5 judges. Decisions: 2.11.1 The judges will be appointed by the Division of Cocurriculum and Arts, Ministry of Education. 2.11.2 Points will be allocated according to the score sheet and aggregated. 2.11.3 Judges will collectively determine the placing by a clear majority vote. 2.11.4 The decision of the judges is final. 2.11.5 Individual team marks will not be disclosed.

Prizes: 2.12.1Plaques and certificates of achievement will be awarded to the winning teams. 2.12.2 Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participating teams.

Delivery and Presentation (35 marks) Marks awarded will be based on the following: i. ii. iii. iv. v. well coordinated and creative choreography, movements, music rhythm, timing and tempo confident presentation variety of voice, intonation, speech, clarity team cooperation and coordination
