THE THREE ESSENTIALS OF HEALTH

Mission The gospel worker need not fear defeat at the hand of the enemy for it is his privilege to be endued with power from above to withstand every satanic influence. As EGH, we must rely on principles not policies to govern what we do in spreading the gospel. Some of the principles we are supposed to embrace are respect, belief, trust, loyalty, courage, gratitude and commitment. God is there for us, and by having the above traits no one should be afraid of a possibility of not spreading the gospel. Wherever we are at, let us change the opinions, impression, perception and actions of those who are near us through our Nobility of character. It is a privilege granted to us that God wants to change and transform those who are near us through the influence of our actions and character. Remember your health influences your mind, which in turn influences you choices hence your character. This article looks into some fundamental elements that impact on our health. Good Health is determined by the following three main elements; 1. Diet 2. Exercise 3. Rest

1. DIET
Our bodies are building up from the food we eat. There is constant breaking down of the tissues of the body. Every movement of every organ involves waste and this waste is repaired from our food. Each organ of the body requires its share of nutrition. The brain must be supplied with its portion, the bones also have their demands. In order to know what are the best foods, we must study Gods original plan for mans diet. It is wrong to eat merely to gratify the appetite. Therefore the question with us is not what the world practice is but how shall I as an individual treat the habitation that God has given me? Everyone should exercise reason and self-control and should act from principle. Where wrong diet has been indulged, there should be no delay in reform. The cells, tissues, organs and systems of the body function properly with an ideal diet failure of which gives birth to complications in the body. Indulgence in any unhealthful practice makes it more difficult for one to discriminate between right and wrong and hence more difficult to resist evil.

Staple food for a reformer

A balanced diet should include Grains- that is cereals Legumes- nuts, soya beans, kidney beans, soya products etc Fruits & vegetables As long as you eat a variety of foods you will be getting all the nutrients you need

Carbohydrates:
This is what your body uses to make glucose which is the fuel that gives you energy and eventually keeps you going on. Carbohydrates are found in; Fruits Vegetables Cereals Grains Your body requires more carbohydrates in order to replace the muscle fuel (glycogen) Healthy foods high in carbohydrates include ones that provides dietary fiber and whole grains as well as those without added sugar.

Dietary fibers:
There are 2 types of dietary fibers; i. Soluble fibers e.g. nuts and seeds, most fruits etc ii. Insoluble fibers- are found in the following bread, brown rice, whole grains and cereals. iii. Intake of dieting fibers Choose whole fruits rather than fruit juice. Try to eat vegetables at every meal Start your day with a whole grain breakfast

Proteins:
Proteins are referred to as body building foods. They stop your body from breaking down muscle tissues for energy and instead initiate the process of rebuilding and repairing your muscles.

Water:
Man can live 6 weeks without food but very few days without water. Every cell of body needs water. Water makes 70% of total weight 50 liters for a man and 40 liters for a woman. Should one take cold water? The body requires slightly warm water, very cold water shut down the digestion if taken at meal time. Cold water diminishes the body thirst signal. When is the best time to take water? The best time to take water is between meals Avoid drinking water within 30min towards or before meals times until 1-2 hours after meal time. Why? Water dilutes the enzymes (digestive) which inform delays digestion. Internal use of water o Pure water is one of the heavens choicest blessing its proper use promote health it is the beverage which God provides to quench the thirst of animal and man. (Ministry of healing pg 237) o Body organs / tissues require large quality of water to work effectively. o Water is essential for efficient supply of blood which is composed of 90% water and which transport nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body; also transport the cell waste products from the kidney, lungs, and also in the skin for excretion. o Water keeps the body temperatures within the normal range. o Water helps in production of the fluid that constantly moisture the eye without fear the eye would become dry and inflamed

Take water while having stress, it is surprising that one glass of water calms many headaches. Note: Most of the water the body needs during the day has to be taken by mouth. One needs to take 40,000 glass of water every day but fortunately the body is a good conserver and recycler of its water, which ends up only needing 8-12 glasses per day restored.

Ways that water is lost from the body Kidney- 5 1/2 glass through urine Lungs 2 glass through breathing The skin- glass through sweating / perspiration Note: loss High protein food, high sugar or salt intake, vitamins and mineral supplements contribute to the of water from the body since this increases the work of the kidney to remove waste. How are we supposed to take water? i. 1-2 cup of water upon rising ii. 2 cups (mid- morning) iii. 2cups (mid afternoon) iv. 2 cups (before bed time) External use of water of water o Ministry of healing pg 237 The external application of water is the most satisfactory ways of regulating the circulation of blood. o Cleaning the skin helps to reduce all impurities that comes out through the skin pores. o Cleaning is essential to both physical and mental health. o Ministry of healing 275: Impurities are constantly thrown off from the body through the skin. Its millions of pores are quickly clogged unless kept clean by frequent bathing. One should also use lukewarm water for bathing because it; Fortify against the common cold and other illness. Improves the circulation Invigorates the body Refreshes the body & mind brightens the intellect muscles flexibility.

If you cant say any more you are at a vigorous intensity. b) Progression Start from low intensity increase the pace. HEALTH QUOTES Every law governing the human machinery is to be considered just as truly divine in origin, in character, and in importance as the word of God. E.G. White, Medical Ministry pg 221 Since the mind and the soul find expression through the body, both mental and spiritual vigor are in great degree dependent upon physical strength and activity; whatever promotes physical health promotes the development of a strong mind and a well-balanced character. Without health, no one can as distinctly understand or as completely fulfill his obligations to himself, to his fellow beings, or to his Creator. Therefore the health should be as faithfully guarded as the character. E.G. White, Reflecting Christ pg 137
