G) Whore there is a gradient of 1/20 or larger on the contact surface, tapered vaashers for bolting Tightening Bolts Q) High strength bolt tightening shall comply with AISC “Speoification for Structural Joints using ASTM A325M Bolts @) The end plate moment connection such as symbol EM and connections where specified in design drawings shall be fully tightened condition. To achieve this condition, “Tumn-of- nut” method specified in AISC shall be used, @) The other connections than clause (2) shall be in snug tight condition, @) For special connections shown on the design drawings, Subcontractor shall consult with Contractor if there arc unclear connections which condition isto be taken. As a rule, the first 2 letters of the connection symbol are to be taken and seferzed to the related standard drawings, 6. SSLI to be applied SS connection, EMIS to be applied FM connection, (S)__ Demonstration of bolt tightening for high strength bolts shal be carried out at site. (©) High strength bolts which were once fully tightened shall be not reused. (7D) All temporary shop erection bolts must be removed and replaced with high-strength bolted ‘connections. (8) Tightening high strength bolts shall not be carried out in rainy condition, weather protection shall always be provided for this operation (9) Bolt length shall be such that the end of the bolt will be flush with or outside the face of the nut when properly installed, Washo shall be installed in accordance with $-000-1330-001 (10) The tightening sequense of high strength bots shall be from the center outwards (11) Anchor bolts and mild steel bolts shall be tightened by manual tools and only snug tight condition is required. BOLT TIGHTENING Bolts, nuts and washers shall be dry and clean before tightening, Where the contact surface forms an inclination with the bolts or nuts greater than 1 t0 20, tapered washers shall be used. Bolts shail be tightened by turning the nuts from the center (o the outer edge of the joint The bolts aro tightened by the Turning the nut method, they shall be first brought to the Shug tight condition, that is a tightness condition attained by few impacts of an impact wrench or by the full effort of a man when using an ordinary spud wrench, Bolts shall be then additionally tightened turning the nuts by the following amounts: 1/3 of Round 1/2 of Round Upto 16 Over 16 5.6 DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCES © Welded columns, primary (russ members, beams, girders with no camber specified ‘The variation in straightness in mim shall not exceed the mumber of meters of length for lengths less than 9 mt and 10 mm for lengths from 9 mt. to 14 rat ‘© Built-up Hor I members ‘The variation between centerlines (web and flange) at contact surface shall be less than 6 «Flanges offset in welded beams and girders The combined warpage and tilt of flange shall be determined measuring the offset at the toe of the flange from a line normal to the plane of the web through the intersection of the centerline of the web with the outside surface of the flange plate. This offset shall not exceed 1% of the total flange widih or 6 mm, whichever is greater © Stiffeners (other than bearing stiffeners) ‘The out of straightness of intermediate stiffeners shallot exceed 13 mm for girders up to 1.8 mt, deep and 19 mm for gitders over 1.8 mt. deep. This shall however petmit assembly of members which frame into them, ‘+ Straightness and Location of Bearing Stiffeners, ‘The out - of - straightness variation of bearing stiffeners shall not exceed 6.4 mm. Up to 1.8 m. or 12.7 mm. over. The actual center line of the stiffener shall be within the thickness of the stiffeners as measured from the theoretical center line location. COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE QMSP Format No, PSP-0201 / ATTACHMENT XL ( %) (2p) CONST. SPECS FOR STEEL STRUCTURES E} ION WORKS Page 9 of $-00-1330-002 <0> "shall aiways be sufficient, with care taken on the frat layer of the welding root to avoid welding defects. Visual inspection of back gouging is required. The use of backing stripe shall be minimized, For filet welds or partial penetration welds, the welding shall be made continuously around edges or comers without ceasing of arc generation. L 7.6 Repair of Weld Defects Welds having inadequate fusion, insufficient penetration, slag inclusion, porosity, ete., shall be removed and weld again. Where cracks have been found in the course of inspection, the cracked portion(s) and any Surrounding area 50 mm from each end of the erack(s) shall be removed and weld again. Undercut, crater depression, lack of reinforcement, insufficient leg length and weld length, etc., shall be repaired. Overlap, excessive reinforcement, and other defective welding shall be removed. Other defective welding includes excessive concavity of crater, undersize welds, undercutting, incomplete fusion, excessive weld porosity or slag inclusions, cracks as defined in AWS D141. PEIRON EEP py 8. BOLTING 8.1 Contact Surfaces Contact surfaces, including filler plates and splice plates, shall be free from scales, burrs, dirt, oil, grease, loose rust, and foreign matter. The Contractor shall furnish shim plates or filler plates, having a suitable thickness for Joints using high strength bolts where the gap of the contact surface exceeds 1 mm. Total thickness of shim plates or filler plates shall be less than 6 mm. Where there is a gradient of 1/20 or larger on the contact surface, tapered washers for bolting shall be provided. Tightening Bolts Where high-strength bolts are used as fully tightened condition, “tum-of-nut method" in accordance with AISC shall be used for bolt tightening. Preliminary tightening shall be conducted by manual tools and maintained snug tight condition. After confirmation of firm contact of connection part, do marking bolt head as well as connected plate and ‘commence secondary tightening as per AISC (refer to table below). Washers shall be installed in accordance with AISC. NUT ROTATION FROM SNUG TIGHT CONDITION C Boltiength | + Disposition of Outer Face Bolted Parts ] UGG PHILIPPINES, IHC.
