Calm of the Shores/Operation Thunder God

NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION:


Tau Empire Hunter Cadre Redtide of the Elsyeir Sept has been called upon to hold a vital air field and landing platform. Strikes will be launched from this position against the fleeing Imperials, but due to its current placement near the primary battle front a quick strike could destroy this vital resource. Imperium of Man - Strikes have started to be launched from a forward airbase under Tau control. Destroy the airbase and then pull back to a secure position, insuring that the Tau are drawn into a protracted conflict in the already evacuated town of Holt. The diversion should allow additional refugee ships to escape.

PRE-BATTLE NARRATIVE:
Aunres surveyed the holdings. He wondered if ShasO Redtides absence was wise, but the search and destroy mission was paramount. Shasel Deep Currents had promise but lacked experience. He was thinking Redtide should return soon, right when the firewarrior next to him exploded into goo.

MISSION/DEPLOYMENT/POINT LEVEL: BATTLE NARRATIVE:


Hold the Landing Pad/Center 24 and short edges/1500 to 2500

The marines got the jump on the Tau performing a classic hammer and anvil attack with the Fleshtearers coming from the North while the Blood Phoenix provided support from the south. The surprise of the attack was too much for the Tau, and many of their warriors fell early in the fighting. The Fleshtearers were able to press the advantage and reach assault with the Tau. Further a supply dump was rigged with explosives by Flesh Tearer tactical marines, while the air control tower was taken by Blood Phoenix tactical. Despite early losses the Tau were able to inflict heavy casualties on the Blood Phoenix terminators and Flesh Tearer assault squad. But the end was nigh, and the marines completely overran the position. Only Shasel Deep Currents would survive to warn Redtides.

OUTCOME & SIGNIFICANCE TO OPERATION:


The Tau lost control of the Sunray Forward Airbase. With the complete control obtained, the landing pad was actually used by Imperial Forces to offload some of the local populace to waiting Imperial ships.

BATTLE #2
LOCATION:
The evacuated mining operations town of Holt.

PRE-BATTLE NARRATIVE:
Redtide was furious. He knew that if the rest of his cadre had been there, they could have held the airbase. Mores o, the loss of Aunres had caused a deep despair in the forces under his command. Only one thing would sate their anger, the blood of the offenders.

OPPONENT NAME & FACTION: Tau Empire (Hunter Cadre Redtide) vs. Space Marines (Blood Phoenix) MISSION/DEPLOYMENT/POINT LEVEL: Big Guns Never Tire/Hammer and Anvil/2000 BATTLE NARRATIVE:
Redtides forces approached from primarily around the remains of the main imperial administratum building located near the edge of the town. Stealth suits were able to strike against the marine landspeeders before they were mobilized. The Blood Phoenix space marines jumped into action, and severely damaged the Riptide battle suit. Kroot were able to complete the outflanking maneuver and kill the tech marine manning the thunderfire cannon, while another unit of carnivores was successful in delaying the tactical marines advance. Still those kroot paid for the distraction with their lives, while Blood Phoenix bikes pushed forward to counter the Tau advance, while terminators arrived from orbit amidst the Tau lines. The hunter cadre was able to kill the initial terminators arrival, but the continued arrival of terminators convinced Redtide to abandon the field.

OUTCOME & SIGNIFICANCE TO OPERATION:


The tau abandoned the field allowing the Blood Phoenix marines to remain in control of Holt. While this allowed the Redtide hunter cadre to suffer only minimal casualties, the resultant base of operations served as a major thorn in the side Tau control of the area. The Blood Phoenix marines would go on to destroy multiple supply centers with minimum casualties.

FINAL OPERATION OUTCOME & SIGNIFICANCE TO CAMPAIGN PHASE:


The captured airbase and town of Holt allowed the Imperium to hold onto the local area and completely evacuate the upper echelons of the population. The destruction of various supplies caches by the Blood Phoenix marines caused the delay of securing the sector by almost a full year. The marines would suffer minimal losses, and the commitment of Shaso Redtide to the greater good would begin to come into question.

PLAYER NOTES
THEMATIC MOMENTS:
The Fleshtearers Brother Captain Flanker almost singlehandedly killing three separate Tau units in hand to hand combat (one unit of kroot, a unit of firewarriors, an ethereal, and helped kill a broadside).
