The Salesian community at Lourdes Shrine caters to the faith formation of the faithful in the parish. There is also a primary and elementary school catering to the poor and deserving Catholic children of the parish and the locality. STATISTICAL DETAILS OF THE MISSION i. Sunday Catechism Sunday catechism classes (both Tamil and English) are organized systematically in the main station and in the sub-stations with the help of the brothers from Becchi Theologate Kavarapettai, religious sisters and lay collaborators. There are altogether 572 Tamil speaking children and 461 English speaking children who have enrolled for Sunday Catechism classes.

iv. Extension services: The community offers better study ambience to the poorest and deserving children through the Semi-boarding and Evening Study Centre. There are 13 boys and 10 girls who are followed up with the help of 4 lay teachers. Three religious are directly involved in this apostolate. They are spiritually nourished through daily Eucharist, morning and evening prayers, rosary on Fridays and weekly recitation of psalms. The Old age home caters to 12 old people by providing necessary physical and medical care. It is managed with the help of a lay person. DON BOSCO VAZHIKAATI HOME: Don Bosco Career Guidance and Job Placement Centre (Vazhikaati) caters to the promotion of young people in the province through youth services and animation. DBTech State coordinating office operates from this centre. There are 20 staff members of which, 15 are Catholics. This centre also offers hostel facilities for the poor and deserving working young men from rural places. At present, there are 40 youngsters residing in the hostel.
