SOMETHING NEW

FOR CHURCHES TO USE

By Burdett

W. Wakeman

Chances are you will listen to the same station each day.

For along time this writer

has felt a need to be con

cerned with reaching souls by radio in America as well as in faraway countries. As pro gram director for the Gospel Broadcasting Mission, it has also occurred to me that GBM, as an arm of the church, should be the source through which such an effort might originate. Now, I hope we have an answer in the form of a 60-second, professionally produced program to be aired five days a week, 52 weeks a year in prime time. Buying radio time for reli gious purposes on good American stations isn't easy especi ally if you want a time that yields the greatest amount of listeners prime time. Most stations fear religion will lose them listeners. Further,
most stations have formats that

go. Nearly every automobile has a radio. Portable radios grace nearly every home. People use radio as a background for what ever they are doing. Few folks now pull their chairs up to the radio and drink in every word as they once did.

Therefore, the repetition of a spot announcement will reach

the same basic audience day

after day, Monday through Fri day, and repetition tends to be an essential part of selling by
radio. Even talk shows or call-

in party lines move fast, A segment of listening done while shaving, doing dishes or driv ing to work can prove suffi ciently interesting to stay
tuned to until one's personal activities force the turning
off of the radio.

There they had the chance to visit with many missionary friends, among whom was Paul Bajko, former producer of GBM's Polish-language broad cast. Paul just recently returned from Poland, where he did a great deal of preaching and looked into the various aspects of the Lord's work in Poland. He found the people still happy and grateful to be able to listen to the Polishlanguage broadcast which is taped in the United States by Boles law Winnik and broadcast from
