Students should be able to:

Explore ways Jesus asks people to love God and others through the Two Great Commandments. Tell that Jesus forgives when people say sorry. Recall Gospel stories that show Jesus forgiving others. Share examples of Jesus second great Commandment to love one another.

I wonder what gifts God has given me I wonder how I can use these gifts to be like God I wonder how God wants me to act.

Students complete Love makes the world go round wheels that show examples of people loving: 1. God 2. Others Children will draw about the Prodigal Son and retell the story in small groups. Children will write their own sorry prayers. children will participate in class prayer service about forgiveness.

I wonder if God loves every person in the world? I wonder what God must be like to love everyone in the world? Ask student to share their thoughts.

Making choices: discuss with the students that one of the ways people love like Jesus is by working like him. This means helping others where they can, particularly when they are asked or told to do so in their families and their school. How do we get help to make the right choices? Tell the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments simply highlighting a few appropriate commandments. Ask how they affect our relationship with God and others. Tell the story of Jesus commandment and how loving god and loving others replace the ten commandments and how this commandment can help us make good choices. Explore ways Jesus asks people to love God and others through the Two Great Commandments. The students brainstorm and list ways that people in their classroom show love for God and

for others. Then they complete the Love Makes the World Go around wheels for class display. The class is divided into two groups. One group constructs a graffiti board using words and/or pictures associated with showing ways people care for others and creation. The second group makes a paper chain on which the students write a list of words which are associated with showing how people may not care for others and creation. The groups then share their work. Discuss with the students that even when people make others unhappy Jesus forgives them when they say sorry. Focus Questions - How would our classroom be different if people always cared for others and creation?

Invite the students to identify ways that they know they are loved within their family situation. Think of a person who loves you and describe how they show their love. Think of someone you love and describe how you show them you love them.

Tell the story of the Prodigal Son, Complete story wheel strategy to tell and explore messages from the story. Present four or five I wonder statements from KWL p112 to engage students in wondering together about the story. Finish with the question: I wonder which person in the story is most like God?

Invite students to choose a part of the story they would like to illustrate. Make class display of illustrations with I wonder statements.

Create a grab bag, which contains symbols and objects related to the story, :characters, money, pig, party hat. Retell the story together or in small groups.

Identify the choices of the characters in the Prodigal Son. How did these choices make or break relationships? Identify choices they make. Classify these into choices that make or break relationships. Design a Welcome Home heart. On one side of the heart children write about how it feels to know God always loves and forgives them. On the other side decorate with sequins,

glitter and stickers etc. Use hearts in class prayer celebration.

Write prayers of Sorrow to a formula from Expressions No 2 The Sacrament of Penance: Who is prayer to? Why are you saying it? A promise End with Amen
