Chinese philosopher Mencius once said that if the king loves music, all is well within the land. In 2012, all is well, because everyone loves music and the Darebin Music Feast has returned with a stellar line-up and a program with over 180 events for the whole community. It is a pleasure to welcome you to an event which has for many years now acknowledged and encouraged innovation, debate and risktaking while supporting the large number of professional and amateur musicians as well as the many live music businesses in Darebin. In 2012 the Darebin Music Feast is very excited to launch a new program called Music Feast for Kids. Its real bands, with real music, and it will be real fun! Experience awesome live music at these kid-centric school holiday gigs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge the numerous venues, event producers and artists involved in this years event. I would also like to thank Yarra Trams for their commitment to music and the arts. On behalf of the Darebin Music Feast I once again encourage everyone to forget the diet because its now time to feast.

There must be a thousand festivals in Melbourne. But Darebin Music Feast is one of the rare ones the perfect combination of great local talent, a thriving village of live music venues, a fiercely loyal local audience and the intoxicating beginnings of Spring. What a heady mix! In 2012, the Music Feast yet again offers you a stunning selection of music for all tastes and ages, in all manner of venues, at all times of the day. Theres simply no excuse not to get amongst it. We are particularly pleased this year to be working in partnership with the largest festival of independent arts in Victoria, Melbourne Fringe Festival, as their Independent Music Partner, giving Music Feast artists much broader exposure to larger audiences all across Melbourne. Many thanks to all our partners, sponsors, supporters and artists who have joined us this year. Without you, the event wouldnt happen. But in equal measure I want to thank the wonderful team in Arts and Culture at Darebin who pour their passion for supporting local artists into this unique event. Were looking forward to enjoying it with you in 2012.

Julia Sandel and the Uccellini

Supported by Darebin Music Feast

Kate Mulqueen
Equal parts cabaret, folk and heartbreak, Kate Mulqueen is a local singer-songwriter who has taken the northern suburbs by polite yet quirky storm. Her weapons of choice are ebony, ivory, irony and melody. She will cut through your skin and curl herself around your still-beating heart.

Kel Day
Outside of her retro girl-group The Nymphs, Kel Days name has been reappearing around Melbourne as a solid songwriter and performer. With a wry sense of humour and an archaic twist of tongue, Kel gives a nod to a pre-modern sense of romanticism a dark, often bewildering, but beyond all beautiful place. A place rediscovered at Bar Nancy during the Darebin Music Feast.

Sarox
Sarox (sare-rocks) began writing music from the age of 14, attached herself to the guitar and has never put it down since. Heavily influenced by the grunge movement, she started a band called Cloud City, of which she is currently the lead singer-songwriter. Sarox and her blues-rock kick-to-the-throat power vocals blends a soul-rock feel with a pop melodic drive. Songs come from inspiration, experience, love, darkness and light.

Saving Cafe Nervosa: Reds Under the Bed Activist Cabaret

The Reds present Saving Cafe Nervosa, the satirical musical tango journey of a worldly bohemian cafe and its feisty female entertainers from 1940s to now. Surviving murder and mayhem, they flex their muscles on war, fake pollies and desperados, but take pity on dead pets and ordinary activists.

Merging a nostalgia for classic jazz melodies, 90s pop hits and a proficiency for on-the-fly looping rarely witnessed in a live setting, Rachel by the Stream is notorious for her high vibin live show and fresh song-writing style. The launch of Smooth Like Butter is sure to rock your boat!
