MDM4U Culminating Project Requirements The project involves creating a survey to be conducted on campus regarding a topic of your choice.

The survey is focused on a particular research problem and after analyzing the results numerically and graphically, there will be a summary with conclusions which relate back to the research question.

Expectations Begin with a research question something you would like to investigate. For example, students attitudes towards recycling. Why is your research question important to you or other people? There should be an introduction containing background information about your topic and references to secondary research. Include here your reasons for choosing your topic - why it interests you. I will be looking for at least three references, properly formatted (APA style) with in-text citations. 5 well written survey questions per person. If a few of you would like to look at the same topic, for example if three of you wish to survey Sunway College/University students regarding their interest in exercise, then there should be 15 questions in total in your survey. You will be evaluated on your own work. You will need a detailed description of how the survey data was collected including the sampling technique, how many surveys were distributed, and reasons for rejecting any surveys. The sample size will be 50 per student in the group. For each person involved in the project, Determination of central tendency and spread for each question A graphical display of the results for each question; Three different kinds of graphs in total must be used (e.g. do not make five bar graphs variety is required). One correlation coefficient for two related numerical variables with description and interpretation One best fit linear regression equation for two related numerical variables Calculation of the correlation coefficient and coefficient of determination with explanation of the meaning of each value Use of the equation for prediction A comparison of the means of two groups with regards to a numerical variable including a discussion of whether or not any the difference found is significant

A conclusion must be included which repeats the research question and how the statistics collected have helped provide an answer. Additional comments may be included here.

Presentation 8-10 minutes per person with a question period Powerpoint slides and video Powerpoint slides must be sent to me at least one day before presentations start for approval You will be provided with the rubric one week before presentations start. Presentation order will be randomly determined using the Excel randomization function.

Lateness Late projects will receive a 10% penalty. Anyone who is absent for a presentation without a medical certificate will receive a failing grade for their presentation. If somebody is absent from a group on presentation day the group will present without the missing person.
