1/ Overview

Communication and accessibility of information between staff during the 24 hour shift cycle of a hospital presents one of the biggest challenges to the continuity of patient care.
It is a real issue on the ward when trying to locate patients notes quickly with ease. Sometimes you cant find the file you need because there is only one copy of notes which are attached to the patients bed. The NHS allows us 30 minutes for the change over of shifts. This time has to be spent efficiently as there is always too much to cover and not enough time.

Three problem areas 1/ Complications surrounding patient notes 2/ Communication through Paging 3/ Handover of information between shifts

Wants and needs of the next generation? Communication between medical practitioners needs to become faster and more efficient when immediate action needs to be taken, this could be resolved if a mobile platform was put in place. Information needs to become available at multiple touch points and not restricted to one copy.

George Welch - Nurse GOS Hospital

Communication really breaks down through the restrictiveness of the current paging device. You never know if your bleep has been read, nor do you know the current location of the practitioner you wish to contact. Not everyone carries a bleep, which makes it very hard to communicate to the exact person you wish to contact. It can be a very long process creating inefficiency on the wards.

Vital ward rounds are being neglected in hospitals to the detriment of patients.

Our vision for the future is to implement a system which keeps medical practitioners connected and on the right path, stopping tasks from veering off track sustaining the momentum of work at 110%.

seamless
The solution to the various problems which arose during our research is to implement a transparent 24 hour digital system. This platform will work seamlessly through multiple touch points to assist with the shared goalcare of the patient.
